  • Yeah Shawn!!!

You are the best! I love you!

    -3-3-3

  • she looks rather cute,nice leotard .

  • Well, look at nastia afterwords.

  • no doubt in my mind that shawn is absolutely awesome... but nastia was cheated out of her medal! her performance deserved the gold!

  • Wat are you mostly good at beam uneavan bars, valt or volt however you spell that

  • Maybe someone can tell me: what about this routine made it difficulty 7 but Nastia Luikin's from all-around was only 6.7. Seems to me like Nastia's was more difficulty (but I don't really know anything about how they determine that).

  • @lucentbeam The dismount

  • @lucentbeam Though turns and other dance elements can have pretty high difficulty (which Nastia has a lot of), Shawn's routine is packed with higher difficulty tumbling...much more so than Nastia. There is a youtube channel that has a D-score guide along with gymnasts routines....I forgot the name :/ I'll look for it....they explain it so much better

  • WOW....SPEECHLESS

  • love you!

  • I LOVE that leo!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Shawn is my role model :)

  • i wish i could do this kinda shit....

  • I love Shawn Johnson! She is my favorite athlete<3 and i really hope she will make the 2012 olympics!<3 GO SHAWN JOHNSON!!!!<3

  • I gottta say, it was a great routine. At the same time, it's really annoying to watch a gold medal winning performance and not see a decent split leap, imho.

  • @peepers60 slo mo the split leap and the straddle jump...both with excellent flexibility and height from the beam. The split leap is 180 degrees at the peak of the jump. I have slo mo'd the vid at home a thousand times. I am tired of this criticism which is false.

  • @desglacons Sorry bud, but this isn't the right angle to judge a split jump/leap at. Watch it from a side view; I love Shawny, but she definitely doesn't hit 180, she knows it herself.

  • @481095ymg2 I will review my 2008 DVD...and see what you are talking about. If I could capture a slo mo stop of her hitting a 180 with "cheated" hips would that make up for it?! :) Still love Shawn and glad you do to! How do you know she knows she doesn't hit 180?

  • @desglacons If some how you could, I suppose it would. There is a video out there that supposedly proves she does hit 180, but that video really just makes it more obvious that she doesn't.

  • @desglacons Not to mention she cheats her hips on her switch split leap.

  • how old is she?

  • shes amazing

  • How Old Was She? She Looks So Young

  • how rubbish is english commintating, am english and I would rather listen to americans :L

  • i do gymnastic and if i could choose someone to train me it would be her!!

  • @MsILuv2Sing16 well you have to admit, Nastia's form isn't always perfect. Shawn's is more reliable. However, overall difficulty mark, Nastia's is higher. Not denying that Nastia isn't an amazing gymnast..

  • @b05620 I mean i'm not denying that Nastia IS an amazing gymnast :p

  • @b05620

Shawn's form is MUCH worse than Nastia's.

  • @Gr33nkiwi Seriously?

  • @Gr33nkiwi I agree her basics are worse but Shawn has perfect twisting form. Yes, she doesn't have elegant lines on bars (which I like more than Shawn's body on bars), but Nastia has the most annoying habits of leg separations.

  • @ShawnVikaKomova2012

Yes, Shawn does have better twisting form and she keeps her legs together on bars, although peoples' reactions to Nastia's twisting is usually melodramatic.

  • @Gr33nkiwi Yes, it's definately not as bad as Mustafina's or Nabieva's. But where do you think Liukin has better form than Johnson? On splits obviously. Not on tucks, that's for sure.

  • @ShawnVikaKomova2012

Nastia's vault form was better. Crappy block, but no worse than SJ's.

Beam in general on basically everything. All bar basics, (minus her giants, although that just seems to be the way WOGA teachers them).

Just overall better basics. Put it this way: If SJ and Nastia had to do compulsories Nastia would probably score higher on all 4.

  • @Gr33nkiwi Nastia's vault form was piked a bit. Beam, her form was better. Her bars basics are better, but every single skill Liukin performed in 08 had a form issue besides her Gienger. Shawn did not have such form issues. Nastia would score higher on compulsories probably. She does have better basics, but worse form.

  • @ShawnVikaKomova2012

Everything Nastia did on bars/beam/floor besides her double saltos only usually had 0.1 deduction max. Yes, she has quite a few 0.1 deductions, but it was worth it in the long run. Both Shawn and Nastia had events where they went clean w/ lower difficulty or took a few hints for higher difficulty.

In the end if you look at their basics, yes Nastia does have better basics and form on almost everything. Maybe not vault, but they both have awful blocks so w/e

  • @Gr33nkiwi Johnson's block is a lot worse. But I agreed with everything you said.

  • @b05620 On their overall difficulty marks if they hit all their routines, Shawn has a 26.3, Nastia has a 26.1.

  • i love her! she hardly ever breaks her form. Unlike Nastia.. although i do love them both :D

  • @b05620

LOL, Nastia's form and basics are MUCH higher than Shawn Johnson's.

  • even if she hadnt fallen shawn still would of won

and she fell witch means she sucks and shaw ROCKS

  • Im a big fan of her and Nastia because they keep you entertained, they keep it clean, BOTH are artistic, and they add thier own style to thier gymnastics. I also feel this way about alot of the other teams and thats why its so sad that nowadays alot of the women are doing the bare minimun to get all of the requirements of the routine instead of putting their personal stamp on it and the routines are getting boring :/ You can be artistic AND creative at the same time.

  • @MrAerial12345 Shawn Johnson had a maximum score of 16.9 where Nastia's maximum score was 16.4. So even if Nastia performed perfectly Shawn would have had to wobble.

  • All these olympic gymnasts could EASILY do lv 5 all star cheer...

  • i luve shawn!

  • Shawn is a good gymnast, I just wish she'd put some artistry in her movements so she'd be less boring to watch.

  • @climbfish68 Shawn is a Power gymnast. She has just enough artistry movements in her routine. If she added any more artistry movements she wouldn't be a power gymnast she'd be an artistic gymnast and that's not what her body is built for.

  • Mind over matter. I'm always impressed with feats such as this.

  • @USASOCCERISAWESOME17 A somersault is considered anything where the body flips around. The somersault you are probably familiar with is technically a forward roll. The most common name for a flip in the gymnastics world is a salto.

  • @USASOCCERISAWESOME17 atualy a summer salt and a back flip is kinda the same thing summer salte is juste how the british say back flip

  • @USASOCCERISAWESOME17

    btw you spelled somersault wrong...

  • will somebody please post the entire beam final, and will somebody please post the entire qualifications from these olympics please pleasee please :)

  • she is such a little beast!! :)

  • If you watch Shawn you realize that she's very different from most gymnasts nowadays. Most don't know how to perform anymore. I find Shawn fun to watch and rather creative (even though this wasn't the most creative beam routine). She honestly does have perfection seeping from her pores and it is amazing.

  • Soooo amazing.

    Deffintly the best.

  • damn idk how gymnist do that i would probably fall off right when i got on lol

  • Is it just me, or do British commentators seem more positive? The Americas are way too hard to impress, and seem to prefer to give negative remarks rather than praise the good work.

  • 2:46 heheheehe no comments

  • i wish i had her confidence!!!!!

  • What I love about Shawn is that she doesn't hesitate on any of the moves - she just throws herself into everything with barely a pause. She does routines with incredibly high difficulty and everything is so solid and powerful!

  • I am no expert, but I think she did very, very good!

  • kk the announcer doesn't know anything. I mean seriously, "A Backwards summersault." What is this, pre school? Jeeez.

  • This is so breathtaking...

  • Urg, sorry Shawn but I can't support a BB winner who can't even hit their splits.

  • @Gr33nkiwi Then fuck Nadia Comaneci and her winning in 1976 and 1980 since she didn't hit her splits on beam either. Get over it, she won fair and square. Even without her fall, Li Shanshan couldn't have beaten her. Even the great former Soviet coaches who trained legends, like Ostapenko and Alexandrov, were actually cheering for her.

  • @markedexclusive Umm, Nadia NEVER did a switch leap or any split jump in her routine. The one jump that she did wasn't suppose to go to splits, it was just a dance skill.

Also, Nadia could hit her splits on the floor.

Shawn's splits RARELY if ever hit 180, not to mention she cheats them horribly. Her hips are not even close to square.

Shawn Johnson wouldn't survive a minute back when the sport was actually artistic.

  • @Gr33nkiwi I reckon that's exactly why she's down and out at the moment: she wouldn't be able to win under the new code... they'd take significant deductions from her beam and floor routines cause they're totally lacking in artistry .

  • @markedexclusive Picture proof of why Shawn DOESN'T deserve this title:

images1 (dot) fanpop (dot) com/images/photos/2000000/shawn-Johnson-on-Beam-shawn-johnson-2033921-533-800 (dot) jpg

  • @Gr33nkiwi Make sure you fix the dots, and erase all the %2 that come at the end of Shawn's name.

  • @Gr33nkiwi chill out

  • @xbaiettoxx3 So you admit I'm right.

  • @Gr33nkiwi not at all. im telling you to chill because your being ridiculously annoying for no reason

  • @xbaiettoxx3 I was replying to someone's reply to me. So, yes I had a reason ...

  • Amazing.

  • i'm sorry to all of her fans, but i wouldn't want to watch gymnastics anymore if she became aa champ in beijing. her amanar was more like a double and a quarter twist barely turned around. she had no choreography, just poses!

  • @afgymnast96 nastia only looked graceful because of her long legs and thin body. Shawn would look that way if she were given that body....

  • @sukishayna if she were given that body, it would still look different. Nastia is more flexible than Shawn

  • @afgymnast96 If Shawn had Nastia's body, it means she would also have her flexibility ....

  • @Missnewyork28 true!

  • @afgymnast96 So it won't look different

  • @Missnewyork28 yes, but it would mean that they'd be two Nastias on the team :)

  • I love Shawn, but if Shanshan didn't fall Johnson would have taken silver.

  • @jramberran I disagree. Since Li Shanshan didn't lose any CV or DV by the fall, the only deduction she incurred from the fall was the 0.80. If she would've received the 0.80 back that she lost from the fall, her score would have been a 16.100, which was not high enough to take the lead from Shawn Johnson.

  • @481095ymg2 Well well, I guess you're right after all.

  • @jramberran Thank you for your honesty. : )

  • @481095ymg2

Shanshan received for than just the fall for her mistake. I'd actually be surprised if the judges even counted the skill.

  • @481095ymg2 You can't completely disregard the psychological significance of a fall from the balance beam though: if Li Shanshan hadn't faltered so early in her routine, I'd hazard that most (if not all) of her subsequent balance checks would not have occurred. She was definitely one of the strongest contenders for this title leading up to the Olympics. Hopefully her coaches are currently working to build her mental toughness for 2012 (if she's still training, that is...?).

  • @muffuffty I agree with you there, but because that really is such a gray area of how she WOULD have done had she not fallen, we really can't say anything for sure. We can use, however, "had she not fallen, she would have had an extra 0.80 to her score, which would be a 16.100 (right?)." Anyway, we can't really know.

  • @481095ymg2 You're right, there's just no point in wondering "What IF..." when talking about Olympic finals, otherwise there are endless possibilities!

  • @481095ymg2 also, you must remember that gymnastics is about your performance on the day, and ultimately under the pressure of the olympics, barely rivalled by that gymnasts surely feel at worlds, shanshan faltered, relinquishing her claim on deserving the medal. Johnson was able to stick it, and so whether johnson would have gone home with silver if shanshan hadnt fallen is irrelevant, because if she was ever not going to fall at the olympics, she wouldnt have.

  • @artyowen92 I agree.

  • @muffuffty she retired in late 2008, and has not shown any sign of wanting to come back

  • @muffuffty I didn't know Li Shanshan was still training? She announced retirement December of 2009, I believe.

  • @ShawnVikaKomova2012 Ah, good to get confirmation. Thanks. :-)

  • @muffuffty No problem :)!

  • @481095ymg2 although she still wouldn't have beaten shawn, the judges probably also took off points for overrotating the skill, but I'm not sure

  • @jramberran No, she wouldn't have. Shanshan had several hesitations throughout the routine, not only the fall.

  • @jramberran no she wouldn't of... Shawn Is A much better gymnast.

  • @jramberran No she wouldn't have. No one scored over a 16.0 in these Olympics other than Johnson and Liukin.

  • @EdGringo78 what are you talking about?Do you mean just on beam?Or on the american team?

  • @afgymnast96 I'm talking about just the balance beam.

  • @jramberran you are totally right

  • @jramberran you are totally right, li shanshan was to win that day.

  • @morenodelaorilla Shanshan was to win that day "IF" she hadn't fallen and messed up her routine. There is no place for "IF's" in finals, everyone can say IF something. Ex: Cheng Fei was to win the floor and vault gold medals IF she had not fallen in both of them. But unfortunately she felt and consequently she has just gotten a undeserved bronze medal in vault (and another one undeserved on beam). The same thing about Shanshan, she didn't have enough mental toughness she felt so no medal!

  • Comment removed

  • @jramberran event finals is the best of the best.. is Shanshan was the best, she wouldn't have fell.

  • @gymdom Well taking into consideration the "better" aspect of both of them the highest score I have seen Johnson get was a 16.250 and Shanshan's best was 16.275. I could say Shanshan is possibly better than Shawn but it is a fact she didn't have enough emotional control to stuck the routine in the Olympic final although she has had the highest qualifying score (16.050) when actually Johnson clearly deserved to receive a better score in the qualifying too.

  • I love her beam!!! its one word: AMAZING!!!

  • that girls awesome

  • oh my god i am shawns #1 fan she is the only reason why i am still in gymnastics i wish that nastia split the beam so shawn would win I LOVE SHAWN 8)

  • it's so amazing seeing all those people watching one person. You have to be really confident to do that!!!

  • amazing routine!!!!! & love the leo!!

  • I used to be very skeptical about the skills Shawn Johnson has. But now I see she does have talent everyone says she has.

  • she is my hero i love her

  • her layout step up was kinda low. It's pretty scary.

  • WOW she is just amazing

  • Well, she's certainly not dead. How stupid. We just saw her speak live this week.

  • it was really ironic that the taller, willowy Nastia finished off her all around by nailing floor while Shawn, the 'power' gymnast won gold on the beam

  • que perfeição, não conheço ninguem com tanto talento nesse aparelho é a melhor sem duvida nenhuma

  • rumors goin around that she died.... look at all these news videos....

  • she's 18-19 now and yes she stopped it. she has gained weight and lost muscle, and lost a lot of talnent quickly. :(

  • omgg she quit??!! wtff i didnt no!! thats so sad! ))):

  • if youve been doin gymastics 4 lik your whole life nd all the time i bet u want 2 quit 2

  • she loves the sport but :(

  • hi, how do you know that she quit?

  • i dont know :/

  • are you naive? hasnt been in the gym for what will be 2 years this upcoming summer. 2 YEARS!!! shes made it clear that hollywood is her preference.

  • @comanecisalto1 Hi, I Know enough about this sport but I do not follow the athletes lives, I do not know what they do or what their plans are. That is why I did not know that Shawn Johnson quit. Anyways, thank you for the answer.

  • @sammy9787 Ive done gymnastics since I was 3, and im now 19 and definitely dont want to quit!!! :)

  • i dont understand why she quit that was a stupid move

  • When you train 40 - 60 hours a week for, idk, at least 8 years, you kind of get robbed of a life.

  • she never trained that much. she trained about 20-25 a week

  • isnt she only 19?

  • shes so good

  • Wow!!! Sad she quit gymnastics.

  • @Sublue whoa she quit ?!

  • @Sublue I'm pretty sure she didn't quit. In fact she said she hopes to make the U.S. team for the 2012 Olympics in London. She may have taken a break but she didn't quit.

  • My name is shaun johnston so i find this funny

  • I never ever ever get tired of watching this phenomenal performance.

  • she really is the best at it huh!!!!

  • I am a huge fan of the commentator - I think she is very good - Is her name Minica Phelps? Anyhow, I think she does a great job verbalizing the routines.

  • Yes, its Monica Phelps; I also love her commentary. She is very knowledgeable, and doesnt talk crap, unlike some of the American commentators. God they are bloody awful; make me cringe when I watch the videos on here and hear some of the absolute rubbish they say.

  • I agree with you - she is so knowledgeable and always has the right thing to say. Of course I could listen to her wonderful accent for hours.

  • Its actually Christine Still, Monica Phelps retired from commentating in 2002.

  • This is Christine Stills...Monica Phelps was the really patronising one who was rude about the gymnasts and she never commentated on the BBC...

  • @ralucagymnast It's Christine Still, not Monica Phelps.

  • how can she be so confident!

  • I really like that the commentators like her. i was actually a little surprised by that just because I always thought other countries were much more apt to like the more graceful gymnasts.

  • yeah I thought they were into more graceful, ballerina-like gymnasts too. i remember one of the commentators for shawns floor routine at worlds said she looked "boyish"

  • She is so comfortable on beam!

  • what place did she get?

  • Um... 1st...

  • I know her.

  • I cnt belive she like 17 That was so good

  • shawn is amazing !

  • love her

  • she really ecspect to win

  • shawn is SO good!!!!!!!!

  • Shawn couldn't have done it any better and she saved the best for last. She's one of my favorites, Luikin's great too, Nastia knows how to glide and look really graceful, her long legs make her look taller than she actually is. Coming from a guy, I like gymnastics I am thrilled.

  • how old is she?????

  • She was 16 here at the Olympics...Now she's 17...
