The Qur'an does cause some confusion when translated, or at least some say that. There are some obviously bad teachings in the Qur'an. It was written by a general who wanted to keep a strong command of his army.

Normally, I'm a huge fan of Matt's line of questioning. But when he asks the caller if he'd do X if God told him to do it, even I as an Atheist would do whatever God told me to do. Maybe I'm thinking about this question wrong, b/c I'm assuming this God is all powerful and all knowing and would know exactly what threats to make or arguments to convince me to do whatever I was supposed to do.
It's moot because there is no evidence of any such God being. Even if there was, why does he need me?

Heres what i want to know. If there really was a god. I don't believe in God but I do see something interesting in the story of Abraham, if not so original.. At the risk of becoming another Theologian: God could bring back his son, he could hold himself to rights after action and could perhaps never hope to justify himself. Does that detract from the action, the instant? Is there not something sacrosanct in action? Do some actions not scar you forever? Ya, the older the religion the more it is changed over time. Islam is not as old, and has not been rewritten like the other books.
The Qur'an does cause some confusion when translated, or at least some say that. There are some obviously bad teachings in the Qur'an. It was written by a general who wanted to keep a strong command of his army.
People need to be willing to admit they may be wrong far more often.

@abdurrahman0487 I was talking about the old armies that Muhammad lead. His earlier writing was good and peaceful, but some of it was inspiried when he was leading armies in war. Not everything he was inspired to write was good.
The shiite/shia divide is an interesting one. I have heard of different issues that divide them, and it reminds me of the divide between catholic and protestant christians. People can never agree on the gods they wish to believe in.

I also believe the two don't exist, but it does almost seem right that if they did then god and Jesus would be the wolves in sheeps clothing.

There are no numbers given for Noah's flood, Sodom and Gomorrah, or the many plagues, famines, etc., but a good guess makes a grand total of 25,000,000. Normally, I'm a huge fan of Matt's line of questioning. But when he asks the caller if he'd do X if God told him to do it, even I as an Atheist would do whatever God told me to do. Maybe I'm thinking about this question wrong, b/c I'm assuming this God is all powerful and all knowing and would know exactly what threats to make or arguments to convince me to do whatever I was supposed to do.

I still think there's more than meets the eye in regards to Matt's line of questioning. But at the very least, it plants a seed of doubt and makes the believer question the 'moral authority' of his beliefs.
I guess my final thought is that only a very intelligent and experienced atheist, like Matt, should use this one argument because there seems to be a lot of nuance to it.

third part of this was great, you guys really got on a roll proving god, if real, is a ruthless despot.
and i think it all centers around the idea that religion forbids anyone to question it's authority, lest it be a path to eternal pain and misery if you do. that is the first sign that you are being had.

I'm an atheist, but I believe that Lucifer is more plausible than God, and IF they both exist, it's nearly impossible that God is the good one, because of what he's theoretically done.

Morality is not difficult at all
It's all about our definition of the word "good". "Good" is the word that describes something we want, and something that we are not avoiding. "Bad" is something that we are trying to avoid and have as little as possible of.
Do to others what they are trying to obtain and not avoiding because they "want" it. And help them avoid what they want to avoid, "bad" stuff. That's morality, it all lies in our own heads!!!!

So far this is my favorite episode of the AE, thank the universe for giving us reason to think for ourselves. I only have to say one thing: this is a good sign for all of you Atheist youtubers. Pick up a Bible, read it, and be openminded.
But don't do it for you. Not for John here.
And certainly don't do it for a Religion.
Do it so you can point these awful, immoral readings out to Christians who don't read it.
