Yes, Jesus did come to save us from eternal damnation, thank God for that. And yes Osteen and these prosper preachers I think go too far. But, I also think it goes to far to say that Jesus didn’t come to deliver us from temporal evils. If He didn’t, why would he heal and deliver all of those people in His ministry? Did what Jesus say in Luke 4:18 mean nothing or what Matthew said in Matthew 8:17 that stuff what not metaphor.
@sozo78 In Luke 16 Lazarus was never delivered or healed from "temporal evils." He died with disease, sores, loneliness, and poverty. No one here has said God does NOT deliver from temporal evils. What we are saying, rather, is that God does not NECESSARILY deliver from temporal evils, and Lazarus is proof of that. Prosperity teachers, on the other hand, teach that that is on God's agenda. They lie and do not practice the truth, and it's all for money and fame. Wolves and snakes.
@truthsourcenet You said what happened to Lazarus proves that deliverance in not necessarily God’s agenda I like to use the word, purpose. But, does it really prove that? I’m simplistic in the way I read the bible. If Jesus actually said this in Luke 16: “what happened to Lazarus proves that deliverance in not necessarily God agenda” then I could believe that, but He didn’t actually come out and say those words. I need those actual WORDS in the bible to believe that.
@truthsourcenet A youth minister of mine years ago told me a terrible story about a girl who got in a terrible accident in the late 60s in a lake in Western Maryland, the state where I grew up. He said that she uses her terrible injury as a witness. My youth minister told me that proves Gods uses people like that. But, I can’t find that kind of ministry in the bible or the ministry of Jesus. I can no place in the bible where God ever called somebody to do that.
@truthsourcenet Kenneth Copeland and Creflo Dollar both say that the book of Hebrews chapter 7 says that Jesus’ priestly ministry in Heaven is like that of Melchizedek. And since Abraham gave Melchizedek a tithe we own Jesus’ tithes. I think that’s an assumption. It’s true the book of Hebrew does liken Jesus’ priesthood to Melchizedek’s, but it didn’t say anything about us owing Him tithes. I need to book of Hebrews to actually say that to believe it.
Joel Osteen False teachers, and prophets will receive greater condemnation. Not many of you should become to be teachers, my brothers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly. James 3:1
and by the way john 7:24 Jesus said not to judge by mere appearances, but to JUDGE RIGHTEOUSLY. we are to judge the spirits of men based upon the Word of God. the Bible even saying to TRY THE SPIRIT to see if it be of God. how do you do that? by JUDGING THE SPIRIT of the man through the eyes of the Word of God. Jesus said to JUDGE, but do so RIGHTEOUSLY. we're not to judge BASED ON APPEARANCE, like the pple did the pharisees and thought they were holy becus of their appearance.
and calling a wolf a wolf is not judging, it is called speaking the Truth. is it wrong to call wrong wrong. if i called wrong right i would be called a liar. so, why is someone wrong for telling the truth when they call a wolf in sheeps clothing a wolf in sheeps clothing. it is not judging... the church needs to wake up and stand up for righteousness and truth and get some backbone and stop promoting cowards in the pulpit.
saul had a heart for the people, but not a heart for God. saul was afraid to take a stand for God, fearing that the people would disapprove of him. he was a coward. so what did God do? God found a man after HIS OWN HEART and set the new shepherd up and slew the old shepherd. if the shepherds will not preach the whole gospel and nothing, but the true gospel and lead God's people into truth, then He will get rid of the old man and find a new man who will. a man who fears God more than men.
Think of it this way. If you're not judged in this lifetime, there is another judgement and on that judgement, there IS no turning back. I'd rather receive rebuke from my brothers/sisters in Christ than God Himself....when God judges you even in this life, IT'S SERIOUS STUFF. The second judgement, white throne judgement, there is no repentance. You died in your sin.
John 7:24 Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.
I think we should be more concerned about winning souls to Christ rather than criticizing other preachers about the way they deliver the word or whether or not they are preaching on sin. Yes, I agree that he should preach on sin but I would rather spend my time reaching ones that I can reach rather than complaining about others that aren't doing it the way I would.
@biggenbh55 I'm surprised at how many people like to give their opinion on this, like you, and yet know nothing about the Bible or what Jesus did. Jesus Himself spent much time criticizing the false teachers of His day. For a small portion of this go to Matt. ch. 23. The apostles steadfastly warned against false teachers. Paul went out of his way to call many of them out by name, even. Jude devoted an entire epistle to false teachers. You need to go and get a Bible and start reading it.
@biggenbh55 I believe the Bible calls us to correct these people, also if we don't say something people will follow these teachers and wonder why they ended up in hell. God will send His people to call them out in hopes that they will humble themselves and repent, and I think in our correcting these people God will use that to win souls for Christ as well. If people hear the prosperity gospel is fake and hear the truth then they might turn.
@biggenbh55, Do 'you' realize that the Lord gave His people the right and authority to 'judge' the way 'His' Word is going forth in this world, when sadly the majority of it is "watered down" to keep those away from the light of Jesus Christ and what He did for us ALL??
Joel Osteen has said time and again that 'he will NOT preach' on sin, because he doesn't want to "beat down anyone or make them feel bad", so I guess he'd rather keep lying to them and let them make their own way to hell???
@jebeja Of course he would. You got it. He was given the "job" as pastor of that "church" and isn't going to blow it by preaching the gospel. Those people don't want to hear the truth, they want to be entertained.
@TheRayshawn21 Why are you then casting judgment upon me and Pastor Tim here? If it's not our job to cast judgment, then why did the apostle Paul cast judgment? Why did Paul declare very boldly that whoever preaches a gospel that is different from the one he preached, that they are to be eternally damned (Galatians 1:8-9)?
@patriciacarrasco Me too!!! When I was a brand new Christian (it's when I knew NOTHING about CHristianity) I actually bought one or two of his books too!!!!!
@PureAirSolutions You're deceived. Jesus Christ bore the wrath of God on the cross when we deserved that punishment, so that we could be reconciled with the Father. And if you're saved, what happens is naturally you desire God. If your passions aren't about knowing the Lord, about seeking after God, but your own personal gain in this life and prosperity which will mean nothing when we die, then you need to repent from your sins and trust in Christ for the forgiveness of sins. That's the truth.
Amen

WOW! The best word to describe this guy is GHETTO.
Joel & Victoria have an amazing ministry and I would much rather follow successful leaders than this GHETTO "preacher".
Why would you discourage anyone who is successfully spreading the gospel????
