  • Do You Know if that would fit into an altoids Small Can, with the 9 Volt?

  • @RRooooooNNNN not sure never seen one possible though

  • @NewmanTutorials yeah i tried it and the 9v is all that will fit in he small can. I made a charger but had to use 2 9v battery to charge the iPhone, 1 9v was enough to charge iPod.

  • @NewmanTutorials I built mine using 2 100K Ohm resistors,

  • wich resistors

  • @indalped 330 ohm

  • Is there any way to make it charge faster? I plugged it into my galaxy nexus and my blackberry and it charged 1 percent in 20 min ....

  • @pokemon2487 you must of hooked it up wrong mine gets almost halfway in 20 min

  • @NewmanTutorials i hooked it up exactly the same way

  • @pokemon2487 do you have a resistor you might need one

  • @NewmanTutorials nah dont have a resistor it charges but just EXTREMELY slowly

  • @pokemon2487 you need to use high mAhr batteries. the nexus take like 1900mAhr to charge.

  • @pokemon2487 a23 battery have 2700mAhr, i would get two of those, only down side is the batteries are about $8 for 2 which you will need. smithba76 has one made in an alto ids small can as well

  • @RRooooooNNNN ahh fuck it i already got the heatshrink on it n shit too lazy to take it apart so i guess il just keep it plugged in and use it like that in emergencys

  • do i need a resistor for a phone

  • @ps3kid11 depends on what kind of phone you got

  • Can u make me one ill pay

  • can i charge my ipod touch with this thing WITHOUT the resistors?

  • @pokemon2487 no

  • how does it work if normal ipod chargers run on Alternating Current and a 9 volt is Direct Current?

  • i love the switch idea. :D

  • do you need a resistor and if you do where do you install it?

  • @vivalacarlo depends on what you are charging and you would install it on the middle prongs

  • @NewmanTutorials im planning to charge an ipod/iphone. Do i put the resistors in the usb too? if yes then which one?

  • @vivalacarlo youll most likley need a 330 ohm resistor and put them on the middle prongs of the usb

  • @NewmanTutorials ooooo ty!!!!!

  • @NewmanTutorials where is the prongs of the usb?

    how many resistors i need?

    ____

    ____

    ____

pretend these 3 thing that stick out the usb.

    where i put it?

  • @kennybaoful the resistors go in the middle and you only need one

  • please make a videos about the aabatteries

  • well could u show or tell me how to hook it up with aa betteries

  • @itscool424 yea youll need a box that holds the double AA batterie that can be found at radio shack then just hook it up and it should hold 4 AA batteries

  • do i have to use a 9 volt battery

  • @itscool424 no buts its alot eaiser to hook up

  • Could I use two 9v to charge my iPod touch 4g

  • How long does the battery last?

  • @a999999ab depends on what device your using i got two full charges out of one battery you might get more or less depding on device and battery brand

  • @NewmanTutorials Oh,i see and thanks for fast replay;)

  • i feel like if i take this to the airport...im screwed

  • @pie830 most likley

  • @NewmanTutorials Wow, thanks for the very quick response. I will be going out today to buy the 330ohm resistor. I will let you know if this works. And thank you for all your help, and the quick responses, most people dont respond :)

  • @NewmanTutorials I took out my switch (it light up) and it seems to work with everything exept my ipod touch 4g and my blackberry. If i were to go out and buy this resistor, were would i put it?

  • @JustinGlumac you put them on the data prongs of the usb witch are the middle ones also people in the coments said 330 ohm are the ones that will work may be differnt

  • @NewmanTutorials No but does not seem to work with any device i plug in. I have tried and ipod touch 3g, a regular flip phone, and an old mp3 player. I will go out and buy a ressistor today, but how many do i need? and which kind (150k,330 ohm)??

  • @JustinGlumac most people are having luck with 330ohm and if you have a multimeter you can test the inside of the usb to see if it even has power sounds like it doesnt

  • @NewmanTutorials i was connecting an ipod touch and blackberry and they both dont work... how do i make it work with my ipod touch or blackberry?

  • @JustinGlumac did you add a resistor ?

  • @NewmanTutorials i bought everything i need and put it all together. My switch light up (so i know that the switch has power) however the ipod does not charge. I also dont understand how the neg wire from the switch to the regulator to the usb is the same wire.

  • hey nice video. I want this to work with my HTC Evo from Sprint. I would like an output of 5V 1A.How Can i make sure it puts out one amp? need it at 1AMP because anything less takes alot longer to charge my phone and sometimes wont charge it. Thanks.

  • @artie2099 Also, it would be awesome to use 2-3 old cellphone rechargeable batteries in place of the 9 volt. so this thing could be rechargeable as well.... any info on how to do that would be AWESOME. Been wanting to make a rechargeable USB charger forever.

  • @artie2099 i dont know if you could use cell phone battries as i think the output voltage is less than 6 volts ik they make recharger 9 volt battries witch would be alot easier to hook up and as far as the 1A im not sure i dont have a 9volt near me but i think its less than 1A

  • Very cool.

  • Is the neg wire from the switch to the regulator to USB the same n how do you connect the switch to a led light

  • @Kiwigansta21 yea and for the led do this hook the positive leg of the led to the switch and your negative leg to the regulator so you don't blow the led with the 9 volt also may need a resistor for the led depending on what size and color you use

  • Let's all chip in and get this kid a new iPod, its 2012 bro quit being 10 years old

  • @heyitstima if you are talking to me how is having a ipod video be 10 years old ?

  • What's needed to make this n how do you connect the red n black wire from the resister to female USB port

  • @Kiwigansta21 9 volt battery

    female usb

    5 volt regulator

    hot glue

    soldiering iron

    switch (optional)

    led (optional)

and you get the wires on by soldering

  • this wasss really helpful i made my ownnn! thanks!..........:D

  • How do u make the hole for the USB female port so perfect and nice video by the way name's Andrei

  • @SuperGiratina1231 Hello Andrei i traced the outline of the USB and cut it out with a x-acto knife it worked pretty good

  • wait the switch has 3 tabs on it how how do u put it on with the LED details

  • @thefunone1011 hook the positive leg of the led to the switch and your negative leg to the regulator so you don't blow the led with the 9 volt also may need a resistor for the led depending on what size and color you use

  • shouldnt you add a diode so the battery on the ipod dosent crash

  • how to make it so it works on ipod touch?

  • @fid237 it works on all ipods

  • @fid237 add a resistor every one commenting is saying 330 ohm is the one

  • My iPod says "charge not supported!" how do I fix this?

  • @theben00233 what gen do you have and did you add a resistor to the usb ?

  • Cool

  • How hot is that voltage regulator getting? You would be MUCH better off using 4 rechargeable AAA cells.

  • @christo930 it didn't get to hot you could use 4 AAA batteries just as easily

  • Comment removed

  • @newmantutorials if i use double A batteries with the same thing taking out the ummm power regulator?? would it work for an iphone???

  • @destructionator1 NO, you shouldn't do that. Alkaline batteries have a discharge curve that looks like this \ When the battery is new it puts out 1.5 volts and when it considered dead it's voltage drops to 1 and it's a steady, linear drop, which is why the voltage discharge looks like "\". It is much better to use rechargeable cells which generally stay at the 1.2 volt output for 95% of the charge, is it's discharge curve looks more like "-" with a slight up/down tick at the beginning and end.

  • @destructionator1 you would still need a regulator so you don't exceed the 5 volts and add a resistor and it would charger your iPhone

  • Does the voltage regulator use any energy in order to drop it? example: 6v I want to drop to 5v, will I get around 5v or 4.5v?

  • @pivitman101 Excellent question, the 7805 needs a minimum of 8 volts and no more than 30

  • @pivitman101 it should always drop it to 5v some times 5.1v or 5.2

  • Can't figure out the resistors on the data lines, I found a setup using 100ohm resistors, tried it, failed. Any suggestions?

  • @thelastagain people in the comments are saying 330 ohm

  • This was supposed to be a how to video, all I see is a picture of something with no explanation of how it was done.

  • @liquidVortexVial other people that watched this video had no problem making one it explains and shows what to do

  • I assume you can get the female USB at radio shack?

  • @pivitman101 at most local radio shacks yes

  • whats the difference from a regular ipod charger and a female i pod charger

  • @TheRaysfan22 i dont understand?

  • @NewmanTutorials i ment whats the diff between a female usb and a normal usb

  • @TheRaysfan22 the normal usb plugs into the female usb so your ipod or phone charger would plug into the female

  • Will this work with a Iphone?

  • @Zaxplab if you hook it up right yes i will

  • aren't you afraid of shorting it out, you should really put a curcuit breaker on it

  • hey bro email me franciscokunt@yahoo.com for the usb shit

  • It works

  • How did you get a clean cut through the Altoids tin?

  • @FallingIceberg i used a x-acto knife and carved them out

  • @NewmanTutorials Awesome. Thanks for the quick response. Do you have a drawing or anything of the sort of the layout and all the connections?

  • @FallingIceberg 0:52 shows a quick picture of the wiring setup

  • But can you bring it on a plane?

  • @Chewitdude64 that is the question. probably not though

  • Bro it works with another usb gadgets??

  • @awsdeefrg depends what are you trying to charge ?

  • where do you get the female usb piece?

  • @benjamintoddwills mouser electronics if you Google it its the first link ive also seen them on amazon and i bet you can find one on eBay

  • sooo if i wanted to set up my turtle beach headsets that only work with a USB port, could i use this to use my Turtle Beach's on the go?

  • @mochy44 yes as long as you have the correct output voltage needed for the turtle beaches

  • I am charging my ipod with your set up as i coment

  • @DekuTreeOfKokiri where did you get your usb piece?

  • whats a 5v regulator and how does it work

  • @megakombat09 a 5v regulator insures that only 5 volts go to your device so it will take the 9 volts and turn it in to 5 volts so you dont fry your device

  • @NewmanTutorials Its basically a 5V zener diode. You can find it in any electrical accessory shop....

  • um can u use a altoids can to make a raideo i would love that ty :)

  • @SuperSk8ta what kind of radio? music radio or walkie talkie radio ?

  • If I wanna add an LED, where should I put it in the circuit board and what resistor should I need to add as well?

  • @leekgee connect it from the 5 volt regulator and depends on the color you'll need to use a resistor calculator

  • Can u give me a list of all the things i need n where can i get them?

  • plz help how can u make it charge a ipod touch

  • can this device how many time fully charge with a battery example:nokia n8 please answer...

  • @brillance30 all depends on the device could be once or twice

  • Can you send me help for there ristorors and the ground from the converter to the usb

  • @jeremy18316 it all depends on what kind of regulator your using and what your charging but take your negative lead from your battery and hook it up to the negative lead on the regulator. idk what leg would be negative for you usaly one of the out side one s if its a 3 legged one then from the middle leg to the usb just mess around with what one you connect it to check the output voltage and make sure it is 5 volt before you plug any thing in

  • @jeremy18316 the resistor is usually 330 ohm depends on devices and i don't have a ground

  • Well I'm on ly 12 and I don't know how to prt in the transitors or put ground wire in to converter and make it still go on to the usb

  • I need help

  • @jeremy18316 what do you need help with ?

  • @NewmanTutorials i need help, i cant charge my ipod touch, i switched the two USB wires and it still doesnt work, what do i do?

  • awesome.. followed the schematic and built it, tried it on my cellphone and it charges. :)

  • what is the resistor and how many do I need???

  • @55671eobennaimo depends on your device a good place to star is 330 ohm and the go form the negative to the two middle prongs

  • @NewmanTutorials thanks

  • I know u get a lot of comments but let me get this straight.. I need 1 female usb port 1 snap cable for the battery. 1 switch .. Exept what ohm resistor.. Also would a momentary switch work like the ones on lasers but that stay down.. Ok anything else i need. I have a 2g ipod.. Any1 answer please

  • @icespartan1171 you need a 5 volt voltage regulator dont have ipod to tell you on the resistors but the people in the comments says 330 ohm and you dont need a switch. most the older ipods dont require a resistor but you'll have to test that out

  • @icespartan1171 you need a 5 volt voltage regulator dont have ipod to tell you on the resistors but the people in the comments says 330 ohm and you dont need a switch. most the older ipods dont require a resistor but you'll have to test that out

  • i did it on my i pod tuch and it worked

  • Every time I see these videos I never see the cable atually attached to the phone. It just goes off camera.

  • I have a 5V DC 180mA Bluetooth device i need pocket power for. Would there be a way to do the same thing? I have the separate power adapter plug for it without a cord.

  • I tried to charge my iPod touch 4G with just 4 1.5v batteries and it doesn't work. Last year when I had a 2G iTouch and it worked just fine, so will this work with my 4G?

  • @pivitman101 each ipod has a different input voltage and resistor

  • @NewmanTutorials mmm...but then how does an old ipod charger, out putting 5v, charge it still? I wonder if the other wires (green and white i believe) affect it somehow.

  • @pivitman101 is it a wall charger or ipod cord?

  • @NewmanTutorials I use my usb phone charger to charge it and sometimes the charger I got from the AV kit.

  • would it be possible to add another 9v battery to the circuit to make it charge faster, or longer. could you tell me how to add one in the rite place, thanks. also where do you connect the led in the circuit +,-?

  • Wat resistors I have to get in order for this to work & also how many?

  • @southparkthreefiddy 330 ohm resistor on the two middle prongs also it may depend on your device

  • @NewmanTutorials I have a 3rd generation ipod touch.

  • @NewmanTutorials Also, what type of switch works best?

  • @southparkthreefiddy any kind will work what ever fits you best

  • Dude i made this and, though it doesn't charge my ipod, it worked exactly what i needed it for (these speakers i have are usb powered and this made them portable). thanks man u saved me like $20-$40!

  • how do you now what the max is voltge is for the voltge regerlater

  • @jameshone1000 it says it on the regulator

  • where did you get the wires

  • @Nimret123456789 old cable from my computer

  • poop i want to charge ipod

  • it did work with me help

  • @BzM0Dz it didnt work ? what are you trying to charge

  • @NewmanTutorials a ipod touch 4th gen

  • @BzM0Dz did you add the resistors?

  • @NewmanTutorials noo nothing why am i supose to

  • @BzM0Dz yes u need to add resistors to the middle prongs

  • @NewmanTutorials what kind of one do i need and like in them= middle prong or the regulator right or no

  • Does it work with iphone

  • @MegaMonstter if you hook it up right yes

  • I have a problem. After like 5 min my iPod says "accessory not supported"

  • @TheGreaterGoat what kind a ipod and picture of charge may help to

  • 330 ohm resistor

  • @ilovedrawing15243 thank you for clarifying this

  • I was wondering if a MOSFET could overheat because it gets extremely hot after five minutes...

  • @kevrack11 what gets hot ?

  • Thanks so much, bro! Ive been lookin all over the web for one that actually works!

  • 330 ohm resister I believe. Orange, orange, brown, not sure on tolerance prob 20%
