what firmware do you have?

if you have iphone os 3.0 and later then hold the

power/sleep button until the turn off screen appears and THEN hold down the home button for atleast 8 seconds.

then your apps will forcibly quit.

no. The restore is built in to another chip, so NO CHANCE it gets harmed, unless you stab it lol. If anything goes wrong, google "HOw to enter DFU mode"

It depends. The only one that I've seen so far that covers the screen without you having to press harder is the ivyskin Retro series, and then there's the naked case by case-mate I believe. Personally, I prefer ivyskin.
