  • wow! he sure is a great KEYTARIST

  • Thanx for the tip Mike77154. I'll check it out. Cheers Pete

  • how i make the harmonics, and what VST amp are you usicng

  • Wow! This is so great. I wonder if the bass sound is a plug or is it for real?

  • @DrawbarPete

    Hi Pete,

The bass is a real bass, and the cut is by the bassist Baron Chase.

    Thanks and glad you enjoyed!

    D

  • @DrawbarPete if you want a real bass vst, i recommend Trilogy, great

  • 0:19 I notice that you tend to wiggle around the key that you're holding down when you're playing while using the mod wheel. They keyboard doesn't respond to those horizontal forces (that is the wiggling motion) applied to the keys, does it? If not, they should make a keyboard that does. Almost like a haken continuum. It'd do mod and pitch bend at the same time. :)

  • @WhiteDragon103

    Hi WD103 ,

Yes, very perceptive, actually one of the reasons I use this big controller instead of a smaller one or "keytar"

is that this series of controllers from Novation has "aftertouch". So the the keyboard does respond to those wiggles after the note, I have the aftertouch assigned to modulation as well as the mod wheel. The modulation is determined by pressure applied after the note is struck. This give me a very live way to "shake" a note musically as i play.

    Cheers,Dr R

  • @DrRyman Ooohh. So THAT's what aftertouch is.

  • @WhiteDragon103

yes it can be assigned to most anything.. sustain is good too..

But it makes keyboards heavier and more expensive as well.

  • @DrRyman While playing the keyboard, I found myself wiggling the key around horizontally (and vertically sometimes) intuitively. I was wondering if others did this too, so that's why I noticed. Whoever invented a keyboard that detects this was clever. :)

  • you look like ozzy osbourne

  • very impressing and amazing playing, never hear keyboard sounds like real guitar till see this video!! One question though, do you mind telling which bass instrument used? if not mistaken sounds like Pettinhouse..thanks

  • @kezzays

    Thanks !

    and

I believe that Baron Chase is using his 5 string custom Ken Lawrence Bass on this cut.

    Cheers,

    Dr R

  • @DrRyman Its Realstrat, a VST or standalone plug-in. Uses MIDI so....

I have a couple songs I made using realstrat but its inputted notes

(in a program) rather than playing it via keyboard, which in my opinion is where the realisms at... lol I made a pretty cool solo! but this is sick!

  • A "keytar" is a keyboard on a strap hung on your neck, not a standard type keyboard playing guitar samples. You might want to update your video descriptions to correct this. Nice playing though!

  • awesome! you rockndroll!

  • is this really a keytar?

  • sounds a lot like andy timmons and also impressive !

  • Thanks!

  • Dr Ryman ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • wow,, this is probably what they would fear back when the synth was invented

  • vai on a synth that is amazing and beautiful.

  • amazing

  • I love the sounds that Realstrat makes, but are you able to program and layer guitar patterns through a sequencer?.

  • 5*****

  • great playing! after listening to some demos on the musiclab sight, I'd have to say that despite some cool acoustic strumming stuff, the plugin is no substitute for the real thing. when u hear the plugin without a bunch of distortion and wah fx to cover the sound, it's obvious. there's just so much you can do with real string versus a key triggering a sample, it would be next to impossible to accurately model. plus the approach to playing a keyboard vs a guitar are fundamentally different.

  • great playing, you're clearly very talented with a keyboard.

im not sure that using a a VST makes it anything like a guitar, it sounds great, but like some great keyboard playing through some great software as opposed to a great guitar playing through a great guitar and amp (or even a guitar through vst plug-ins)

no offence meant here, i think its really cool, nice sound and nice playing.

  • Thank-you

It is, of course, a sampled "Stratocaster" so the original sound source was real and was strings, also with pick placement /hand placement/ pick speed and amount and various stages of muting..

That said, it certainly is its own animal for sure,,

and the best lead tone I have ever had out of a sampler by far.

    Peace

    D

  • So you are using realstrat as VST right?

  • Correct, but as "AU" and using Logic Mainstage as host.

  • It strums!

    it feeds back!

    it has harmonics..

It bends strings... ( they even squeek)

    it screams..

    its awesome...

  • Just watched/listened to this with the speakers turned way up and wow, what hurt was coming to the end. Totally messed up and terrifically exciting. The rhythm of life itself!

  • a virtuoso performance that makes me want to hear the whole song! dr. ryman is the best performer on keytar today, because no one commands technical proficiency with tone as he does. avant garde and at the same time, old school in the best sense. his range of form is wonderful, too -- check out "song for michael" and "'cause we ended as lovers" and the two improv pieces performed live, keytar blues and latin... rock on, dr. ryman!
