I love the "uh" at the end of it. Still rocks more than any Beatles song; even "Helter Skelter" has nothing on this.
John & Yoko had music writer Robert Palmer over, and John asked him if he knew "Why," "O Wind," and "Midsummer New York." Palmer sheepishly had to admit he didn't. They suddenly broke into howls of celebratory laughter. 'He hasn't heard it yet!' they were shouting at each other. They gave him her records, and John said, "You know, this is my favorite stuff of anything I've done."
??? not sure how this is concidered music but then again i could say the same about some of the butthole surfers songs and i still listen to them lol. guess this just isnt in my catagory of weird shit i listen to.
While this offering isn't to everyone's taste, it was nonetheless influential. I have a few songs from some punk-bands in my collection that are testament to that. The Plasmatics, for instance. To be fair, plenty of bands (including the Beatles) were considered too radical or experimental by many until they were successful. That was long before Yoko was in the picture.
@IwshIcldstrtover There's something wrong with people who go on a video just to give their worthless opinion that nobody gives a shit about. I'd understand if you'd stumbled on this, but your clearly haven't. Sad fuck...

That's John Lennon on guitar, Klaus Voormann on bass and Ringo Starr on the drums. Fantastic back-up group. Even Yoko's screeching vocals are good. She could be screaming "Why?" for all the troubles in the world, for all we know. This was one of the beginnings of what would become New Wave, alternative music and grunge rock.
just imagine listening to this when it first came out, this is crazy groundbreaking innovate stuff. must have scared a lot of hippies and inspired a lot of soon to be punks. it's brilliant!!!
Stan Laurel at the 1:28 mark? And where did the video come from, ntscplaybackonpaltv ? If you made it I want to shake your hand, then run away as fast as I can...
@peepff54 Regretably not. I think this was the original video. Rage (The Australian program it's ripped from) used to play it all the time when Beatles themed nights came on.
This song kicks ass! Great power trio....the music suits Yoko's wailing; we'd put the speakers in the windows in Plattsburgh NY in 1979 or so and blast this at 4am and wait to see the cops racing up Broad St. before shutting it down quickly. And yes, it got any dogs in the area howling...
Everyone wants to blame Yoko for breaking up The Beatles, but honestly I blame John. He was a grown man and made his own choices. Do you think he would've done anything unless he actually wanted to? I don't know about you, but I can't see her being strong enough to physically force his hand. I mean sure there are things like emotional blackmail and being manipulative.. but you know what, John just stuck by his woman. Any of you would do the same if you were truly in love.
If so many of you can not appreciate this, why do you not go elsewhere and listen to something that you DO like? It has been forty-one years now; I still revisit these recordings and still find plenty of reasons to enjoy them. Someone's slamming of the artist in the "comment" section is not going to do anything to change my mind.
Yoko is a bitch. She alienated John from Julian his first born son because she was an unfit mother to her own child. By her own admission she stated that Julian made her uncomfortable and she hated being around him. She has zero talent and is ugyly to boot.
@IcolossusPSN I was just messing with you, lol. But I seriously don't hear any talent behind her. Its not just because its "different" or whatever, but because I don't hear any passion behind what she does. But to each his own.
@IcolossusPSN lol I didn't even bother to read that butthurt-fueled block of text. Just so you know. Bottom line: like what you want- just have enough sense to realize this bitch is mediocre in comparison to most vocalists. Very mediocre.
My English teacher told us a story about Yoko Oh-no today. Something's telling me this is worse than anything I've ever heard before, and I've heard shit like Mumford and Sons, Manchester Orchestra and the whole fucking RnB genre.
I have loved this remarkable piece since I was 17 when it came out, and am uplifted by its sheer unbrifled creative ferocity each time I play it. Thank you Yoko, big time. John
if you're coming at this because you like john lennon, this is going to sound like shit. if you're coming at this because you like can, this is going to sound fucking awesome. it's called "avant-garde" for a reason.
@glassbreaker5791 This sounds more like Can than most people realise! Damo Suzuki was the male Yoko Ono. It's been widely stated that the experimental German bands of the late 60s/early 70s thought Yoko was the most creative "member" of The Beatles - and you can see why.
Yoko Ono has NO talent. She absolutely stinks. The only reason she has music published is because of John. Oh My God...my bowels just exploded!! I am now projectile vomiting!! Life is over. Wait..I know..I'll just turn this obscene trash off and sew my ass back up!!
@concalo Again even without watching The Simpsons you can tell my comment is obviously not serious in that The Plastic Ono Band contains Yoko Ono's name in the title. Are you fucking with me or are you retarded? If you are indeed retarded I am sorry and I proudly support the Special Olympics. You are a winner in my book.
