  • Y can't people just accept that your hair, as well as theirs can grow. They have this ignorant hot comb, burgamont mentality that is embedded in them. If nappy "african"hair can't grow, how do they explain people with locs down to their knees. Their hair grew because it was not manipulated so much. If they don't believe, fine! Let them have their ear length split ends hair and those of us that do can keep doing us. Geez.

  • This is true that the type 4 hair is very coiled and it true that your hair is growing so now if you know that you have type 4 hair and your hair get tagled very quick you should take the steaps to CARFULY detangle, protective styles, and moisterize to keep your hair from being very tangle to where your breaking it; If not doing so or if u dont know what you how to do this you wont see results.

  • Sorry but the term ethnic hair is correct because. Indians from India have the same hair texture. 2a to 4c. Are they black? How about Aborgines from Australia? They have nappy hair. So do Samoans and Hawaiians. Some have the same hair texture. Are they all Black? And from your picture you are like me, a mixture of several races. Not just African. That's a PR stunt your protraying to sell your good. Buy Dominican hair products if your hair is like the photo above.

  • I'm type 4 according to the all the "books" I've read. definately has nothing to do with hair "type" or texture.! Such ignorance! I'm *sighing* with you. Definately ignorance! She got that information from Oprah's hair dresser's book he wrote. BLAH BLAH BLAH!!!

  • The whole point of hair types is to find products and take care of your hair to the best that it can be... some products work better for type 4 than type 3.... that's all it is to me... getting to know your hair on a deeper level so that you can take care of it the best you can.. that's all... YOU'RE MAKING A BIG DEAL OVER NOTHING!! and i agree with jonie1515.. your hair looks like a WEAVE to me.. and until you post a real video of you brushing it then i believe it's a WEAVE!!

  • @lth213 you're stupid and a jealous bitch period!

  • @punaize2 she's just a hater, all black people with long hair don't have a weave, I love letting down my in the middle of class and running my fingers through my scalp and playing with it...then all the other black girls in my class stop speaking to me once they see I have really long hair, lol...ignorant!

  • i agree with jonie 1515... it does look like a weave and until i see an actual video of you combing your hair ..... I'M NOT BUYING IT!!! SORRY BOUT IT!!

  • Hey folks its your hair live with it! If ya hate it dont hate on someone elses.....just go buy a wig, not a relaxer. that way yours can grow. Oh ant I have type2 meets 3 hair.lol

  • Hey folks its your hair live with it! If ya hate it dont hate on someone elses.....just go buy a wig, not a relaxer. that way yours can grow.

  • You cool and all but good lawd who did your eye make-up!? Girl, stop letting ya' lil' nieces play in your make-up....QQ!...Da hell!?

  • some pics your showed are not real representative of the hair type...relaxed wavy hair is not a type 2...hair type only reffers to natural hair.

  • I really would like to learn from your videos because i feel everything you are saying is helpful but feel like you are so angry, why all the angst? I can't listen to the entire video because I feel like you are getting pissy with me! Ah try to cut out the patronising and intimidating tone, not okay. It'd do your videos a world of good.

  • @domicollins Um bitch you done bumped your head.First off,Ive seen a few of her videos&the comments left on them. These retarded bitches(including you)say some real stupid shit.So if she is or seems pissed/stern/etc I don't blame her.2nd:How are you going to tell somebody WTF to do on THEIR videos, you sensitive asshole.SMH@"The performance review" You're not her fuckin boss."Pissy with you"personally?Get a fuckin life weirdo.Either way, I she& everyone on YT can say&do whatever the fuck they want

  • @mohaghanyfarrjones thanks for the input. ''say&do whatever the fuck they want''. i took your advice before you even gave it and said my opinion which i'm entitled to. please and thankyou, k thanks bye.

  • my 11 yrs old daughter who is not mixed, has waist length hair that looks like shimas when i flatiron it. i had bra strap length hair until i damaged it with relaxers and dyes in my teens . we can grow our hair

  • i feel you shima, take care of your hair ladies, and love it! lol, go girl. i believe alot of people are skeptic because you are trying to sell them stuff lmao. but the proof is in the pudding, and i see whole lot of it!

  • @NyRamsey skeptical*

  • Actually, type 4 hair appears to look short, but really it is the shrinkage. The shrinkage makes the hair look short. When you stretch out the hair it looks much longer. For example, if you have a afro that looks shoulder length then if you straightening it will appear much longer. It might be as long as armpit length or bra strap length. Our hair is really not short. It just shrinks up in tight curls. Don't let that fool you.

  • i understand what your sayin about the type 3 hair SUPPOSLEY being better than type 4/kinky hair....all types can grow it jus depends on how u care for it

i got type 3 hair by the way

  • I don't think she was trying to be dicriminatory or ugly about it. She only address that kinky hair might need a different trend of care versus straight hair which needs a different trend of hair care versus wavey hair. What is the big deal? Why so much attitude?

  • It's called ethnic hair. Indians, Aborgines, Caribeans, have similar hair. Are they mixed? Went to Guam, Hawaii, found the same type hair. It loves coconut oil.

  • @12quillemall5321 many aborigines have kinky hair..and actually most of them had kinky hair until the europeans arrived and tried to breath them out in the 60´s...

  • @emergencyexit16 In pure bloded aborigines, their hair is curly and wavy and can "fro", but it's not really kinky and tightly coiled in the way of people of sub-saharan african descent.

  • @ananse77 WRONG. the reason that most aborigines have looser curly hair today is because the WHITE australians tried to breed them out in the 1960's. They sent them to internment camps where they raped the women and trained the offspring to be servants and houseworkers. MOST of the original aborigines and still many today have KINKY hair, as tight as most SUB-SAHARAN AFRICANS and AFRO-DESCENDANTS TODAY.

  • @emergencyexit16 No. That is not true. I know all about interment camps and forced mating with whites, but they always has looser hair than sub-Saharan Africans.

  • @ananse77 No, they don't. If you go to Australia you can clearly see that many aborigines STILL have kinky hair, and like I said, before the internment camps, most of them had kinky hair. Google it. Just look at pictures. It' s not rocket science..plus, I know aboriginal Australians WHO HAVE TOLD ME THIS.

  • @12quillemall5321 Caribbeans? I'm from the Caribbean, and like most people in my country I am mainly of African descent. I don't have hair like Aborigines or Indians. I have the hair you would expect in someone of African descent. There is no such thing as "ethnic" hair. Everyone in the world is "ethnic", it just means "relating to a people or culture". "Ethnic hair" is just a PC term coined by the hair products industry to avoid saying "black hair" or African hair, or whatever else.

  • My curly hair is so wild and gets frizzy - it usually becomes unmanageable throughout the day. do you have any styling tips that don't require heat or damaging your hair because I just can't seem to put the straightener down :( and I want long hair

  • Shima how can I watch your private video?

  • do you use heat on your hair shima?

  • <3 5:04-5:08 = D

  • any type of hair can grow! i do hair and i do this black girl hair who's has longer and healthier hair than mines(im white/latina.) her natural texture is what you explain as type 4 (course) so she wants it pressed and its so healthy and strong

  • any recommendations one good hair care products for type 4 hair care and what about type 3. I want to say I have type three becasue when it get's wet it does not kink up. But it waves up. when I perm my hair, perms barely stop the waves.

  • Seems you have something against "bushes". Personally I love the "bush" "fro" "afro". I'm looking forward to sporting an "afro" and look good doing it.

  • @dakforever29 Same here ! I'm growing one out now, too! I BC'd my shoulder length curly perm ( after 28 yrs) in Feb & have 4" new growth under an afro wig while I pamper it with ayurvedic products & keep it braided & conditioned.BTW, I had a MASSIVE 'fro in the 70's & gonna grow another one. NO MORE PERMS AGAIN EVER !!!

  • You are so right love your video's

  • Tell it like it is Shima. Im gonna order some more of your products because its workng for me. I think im between hair type 4 and 3 type tho. Sometime you can have diffrent types in one head so it can be confusing sometimes.

  • Thanks for the break down Shima I needed that as I too was confused as to what all the numbers meant in hair types and textures.

  • I agree with your assertions! On many levels, the more we complicate things, the more excuses we have to not pay attention to what really matters, healthy hair! Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge.

  • Thank you for all of the positivity and education you are giving. I am blessed for it. Its funny that people want to stay within a little box that is negative instead of accepting a new belief that their "type 4" hair or whatever can grow. Black women out there start believing that your hair can grow long regardless of what "they" whoever "they" are say. These hair types are degrading and do nothing to assist in accepting ones hair texture and allowing it to grow healthy and long.

  • i think this is very ridiculous b/c honestly shima i think that your hair looks closer to a type 4 than a 3. now i may be wrong, but from what i can see throughout your videos you have healthy, long, strong, beautiful type 4 hair! dont mind people who just want to make excuses for why their hair hasnt reached your great lengths

  • Not true about type 3 hair. I have type 3 hair and my sh!t is hard to comb and dry.

  • It is true the hair grows no matter what type it is. It grows no matter what you do. Now if you break it off as fast as it's growing by not taking care of it, that's another story. ALL HAIR GROWS.

  • People with kinky hair keep lying to themselves saying they cant have long hair, their hair is not good. where is this coming from?

When I was little I had long hair, down my back and Im 100% African, black, from Nigeria.

If you dont take hair of your hair it wont grow. For the past year My hair did grow properly. You know why? I flat ironed it everyday, thus it broke of more.

Now it has grown at least an 1.5 inches in 1 month. WHy? I stopped with the iron and trimmed it to make it grow

  • My sister's hair grew to an incredible 17inches and it only started breaking when she started relaxing at 20 years old. she stopped using the relaxer after a couple of years and her hair is already growing fast again, and ladies and gentlemen, she was a type 4 (maybe a maybe b i don't know). i don't freaking care what people say but ALL hair grows, depending on how you take care of it, just lke Unekwu said. What is "good hair" anyway? psssh! It is ridiculous indeed!

  • Yes, Shima. It's all growing. But "growth" is not the point. Retention is. That is what you are doing with your protective styles. And yes, type 3, and especially type 4 hair is extremely fragile, so retention is harder. That's just the truth. It's not about good or bad hair. If you research scientific studies, you will see that african (type 4 ) is the least elastic / most brittle. To retain we neded protective styles more than say a thick-stranded "type 1" or "type 2" hair does.

  • I totally agree. People with type 1-3 hair do not have the same issues with growth retention that those of us with type 4 have. That's why you see more women with straight hair or looser curls with long hair. Seeing a type 4 with super long hair is not common!

  • but her point is that the comment was saying type 3 hair is 'good hair' (which suggests there is bad hair, aka type 4). she's trying to make the point that if the basis for that comment was hair growth, all hair grows, even type 4. now you have to educate yourself on what it is that you have to do to retain length instead of calling type 4 hair bad or relaxing (if you're type 4, even with the relaxer you're still 4). education has helped me in that regard and i recommend everyone to do the same.

  • I understand what you are saying, but you must admit that length retention with type 4 hair is more difficult. It also depends on your genes. There are some people with type 4 hair who have always had long hair. You also have to take into account that not all type 4's are the same. It might look the same, but there are slight differences that may influence the rate of retention.

  • Maybe. I'm sure this diversity is also found in other groups of hair. I'm sure there are some type 3s, 2s and 1s that can't grow their hair past a certain level because it's more difficult for them. Maybe it's more likely to occur for type 4s because of the fragility of our hair. I'm not necessarily arguing about that. What I think Shima is trying to say (and I agree) is there's no such thing as good and bad hair. Also, letting ppl be aware that you can grow type 4 hair long, it's a possibility.

  • Mom2dave I can understand where you are coming from. My friend that I have been knowing since school always has long 4 type hair. She relaxes and puts color on top on relaxer. She does not take care of her hair she wears quick weaves and pull glue out her hair but her hair grows so long. She has always had long hair regardless of how she takes care of her hair. So for some people it may just be genes.

  • you can have type 4 hair and have long hair i noticed that people with thick hair (meaning the individual strand of hair not the volume of hair) are the ones who have less split or dead ends and thier hairs can go thru more i even know a girl who i would call a type 5 if they had one, but if you put a perm in her hair it takes only moments due to the fact her hair is so fine.sheemas hair seems like my daughters hair type 3 but it can appear type 4 once i brush the curls out.

  • but it is possible for a type 4 to have long hair look at Oprah, that is her real hair, she used protective styling wearing wigs braids and weaves while she grew her hair out for the past year.

  • my hair grows past the middle of my back regardless. i cant wait to see it grow now that im stayin natural. maybe it will be waist length since i have to take care of it better.

  • It will, you will see your hair retain its inches by taking better care of your ends.

  • So did the Shima products work for you?

  • yes they are still working for me...

  • shima could you put up a real vid or like your brushing your actual hair instead of these still type pictures because honesty it looks like a hair weave.

  • Jonie, I will show you ladies everything you want to see as soon as I get me a camera. If you have ever attended any of my hair shows you will see how I even allow the ladies to run their fingers through my hair all they want for as long as they want. Shima has nothing "fake" up there.

  • @Shimahair21 your hair looks damn real don't know what that persons talking about. there are plenty of women of colour with mega long hair. x

  • @jonie1515 clearly not a weave

  • @jonie1515 she has videos with her handling her hair, get it this lady's hair is 100% real, just bcuz ur black and have beautiful hair like hers don't mean its a weave cuz this is real

  • yeah my hair is supposively 4b the worst type of hair when I seen videos of ppl talking about this it kind of made me feel bad but my hair is still growing so i dont care thick and kinky whatever

  • (22valerina) I have 4b hair and I have managed to make it look nice, every hair type is beautiful--you got to learn how to take care of it properly and find the right products.

  • ur right I seen ur vids u have really nice healthy hair and nice growth too I'll be taking tips!

  • omgosh! now we have hair types!!!! it sounds classist. like, "octaron, quadron,...."

  • lol...the hair types arent jus for afro textured hair as she stated but showed pics showing diff races. their has been hair types for years also its not new as of feb 09. lol. for other hair types their is a type a,b & c not jus for kinky hair. i feel what u guys mean abt making it complicated but some of this mixed up. it does sound like octaroon when ppl start braggin abt textures. sad

  • shima you are awesome, tell these ignorant people how it is!

  • I hate when people talk about hair types when I honestly think that there are way too many different textures to just fit in 4 categories. 4a 3b 21 I mean really who cares- good hair is any hair that grows. Is ignorant for her to imply that the actual texture of one's hair dictates the length when what it truly boils down to is genetics, nutrition, and styling practices.

  • *gasp* im sorry to be so hype but i cnt help it. my name is Feliz and when i saw it i was like yay. hehe=) i dont speak spanish tho im brazilian we speak portuguese.=)

  • Estoy de acuerdo con ti. tu hablaste todo lo que quiero decir sobre este tema. Las mujeres negras necesitan aprender querer lo que las hace ellas.

  • I think I'm going to try your hair oil. I am currently using wild growth which is great but I need a moisturizer and I'm taking my hair extensions out sooner than I thought because you make me feel bad lol. Truth I really hate wearing this but I'm desperate to grow my hair and think of my sewin as a protective style since underneath it's braided and my goal is that I am trying to grow it to longer lengths. It's already pretty nice without weave and if you can do without weave so can I. Thanks

  • great video you are so right why do people freak ouy bout hair types..............have you gotten more shima oil on your website????

  • Yeah I believe she is stocked I just came back from Shimas website. I favorited your site and will be purchasing your oil later this month. Hope it works my hair gets thirsty lol needs lots of moisture and a good moisturizer.
