Islam has been villified in the Media. It is amazing that it is growing and many women enter Islam the so called oppressive faith that offers no freedom. Freedom is acknowledging the truth about this life that the material of this life will end and all that truly lasts is that of what we give freely in this life.Too much judging by materialistic measurements. I've found more freedom in acknowledging that we all eventually submit to the law of the creator. our hearts have only so many beats.
@islam20questions You call following law "freedom"; it is really only freedom from the burden of thinking through ethics for yourself. It is far easier to use a tick-box list of "revealled" rules.
A list of rules makes you feel secure. It permits you to feel self-righteous and superior to "sinners".
But it is actually an abdication from responsibility to think for yourself. It leads you to support inhuman acts, such as stonings. It is a reduction of your humanity.
Neville "freedom" and "we live in a free society" have been chimed by those that purport that religion is as you said, an abdication from responsibility. I hold the opinion that a follower of God who wishes to exercise his God given right to have a chicken lay an egg in his back yard to feed his family but can not due to a statute in his state or municipality is enslaved. We are all subject to natural law. If you are truly free then stop using the bathroom for 2 days.
@islam20questions I didn't claim to be free. I am aware of limits to my freedom, not the least of which are my responsibilities to others. The issue is the way revealed law—sometimes because it is out of date—ends up forcing intelligent and sensitive people to commit acts of pointless cruelty, or to support laws that are unjust and cruel. I don’t even have to give examples: you know them already.
We need law that is thought through; not inflexible diktats from a very unsophisticated past.
How can I feel superior to another sinner? Hadith: “If you were not to commit sins, God would create other people; they would commit sins and He would forgive them.” Islam has challenged me to try to act more responsibly and realize that my actions affect others lives.Does "freedom" comes at the expense of others pain.I am not free while a woman in Bangladesh is enslaved to sew the clothing I wear. Many unthinking sheeple follow the world's largest religion,"corporatism".
@NevilleRhysBarnes the term sheeple is to make reference to what the corporations view these human beings as. Youtube space linitations really does not do any kind of rational debate justice.
What an intelligent man. He could be contributing so much to civilisation. What a pity that he has chosen to undermine and corrupt his own intellect by believing the ramblings of an illiterate desert trader.
@NevilleRhysBarnes the problem you fail to realize is he is.don't know what you believe but a wise person can come from any part of the world. you just sound like a racist.
@TheFalconel There is no good reason to believe anything that Mohammad said, and many good reasons for believing he was to varying degrees deluded and/or a self-serving liar. Call that racism if you like.
@NevilleRhysBarnes can you imagin a man who was known as trustworthy and called as such.offered wealth and power just to stop preaching about one God, for people to stop worshiping the creation and to worship the creator. but no one brought such a message except they were called liars, mad or posessed.what you are saying is nothing new. people always attack the truth, did you go and have words with the worshipers of the cow? save yourself and don't worry about muslims.peace
@TheFalconel Mohammad was successful, but otherwise no different to a thousand other cult leaders who have cropped up through history. His particular obsession was polytheism; it could have been anything.
The Quran is an incoherent mess cut and pasted from other traditions. I could pull a half-educated truck driver out of any bar, set him at a word processor for a week, and he’d do a better job of writing about ethics, law, cosmology, history and science than Mohammad achieved in a lifetime.
@NevilleRhysBarnes why dont you do it then instead of talking? the point is that you fail to see, there is one God,one human race ,one religion.you you give an illiterate man too much credit.like the challenge stands,"produce a chapter like it and call your helpers and supporters besides him and you will be never able to do it......." till now no one is able to do it,prove the Quran wrong? talk is cheap my friend
