So it's not a pipe dream.

If I knew there was a nuclear bomb was hidden in a city, I would torture a suspect to get information sure. However, as soon as it was over, I would go to the nearest police station and state "arrest me, I have broken the law" and I would try to make my case to a judge and a jury. You do have to work hard to get into the NHL, NBA, etc., but you can work hard and not make it. Taxing the people who can afford it shouldn't have an affect on jobs though. Not automatically, if the govt starts raping people's wallets, sure, but that's not the case yet.

Actually it does have an affect on jobs. People whom you claim can afford it will be taking home less money and there is less incentives for them to make more money b/c if they make more money, they'll just pay more in taxes, thus, they downsize their business and cut employees, which creates more unemployment and more dependents to live on the government dole. Businessmen anticipate what's coming in the future and adjust accordingly, they know tax hike are coming and they are adjusting.

If you don't think he will, then why don't you go look at Clinton's Tax Plan Vs. Bush's Tax Plan. The bottom bracket was paying 15% under Clinton and 10% under Bush, and Obama is rolling us back to the Clinton taxes in 2010, so he is raising taxes on everybody. Go do some research.

As it turns out they were bankrupting the country, but at the time they were keeping us afloat with addition income that we didn't have before. It was a short term thing though since that additional income was quickly used to deal with our other problems.

The wars weren't bankrupting the country, it was the overall spending that was bankrupting the country. We were spending 3.5 Trillion Budget on a 3 Trillion Dollar budget. Too many stupid government programs that can be slashed and cut completely but weren't was the reason for the government not having money. If they need more money, cutting taxes has proven to increase federal revenue, Reagan proved it in the 80s and Kennedy proved it in the 60s.

He's letting the Bush tax cuts expire in 2010, which will increase taxes from 35% to 39.6%, he's eliminating charitable deductions, he's already increased taxes on cigarettes and alcohol, he's proposing a Value Added Tax which counts healthcare benefits that you receive from your employer as ordinary income, thus leaving you with less money in your take home pay.

Under Clinton I could get a pack for 2 dollars, under Bush it was more like 4). Ok, so when the rich decide to hold onto their money, not invest, not spend, fire people, and just hang on to their money, then this economy will be fucked even more. You want to punish success and punish income, then you're going to get less success and less people earning income, then you end up with less tax revenues and more debt. If the rich just sit on their money and don't use it to create jobs and start businesses, the middle class and poor are screwed.

No, the government will end up with debt. Government makes most of its money not on what the rich have, but how much money is transferred with the exception of property taxes. If the rich make less and spend less and tighten their belts, the economy will get worse and slow down.
