Teaching a kid to completely reject faith to me is the same as teaching a kid to preach a religion like Christianity. That's a great point. Many Christians and Muslims like to say "the violent people aren't 'really' apart of our religion." But they both study the same book and teachings. If a philosophy can breed peacefulness AND violence then there is something wrong with it.

reality shapes philosophies... reality is elusive, but one must shape ideas about living that do not collide with interactive reality... reality is tough enough without starting at an obvious lie...

What if instead of a lie, you look at it as fiction? Is there meaning in fiction? Like for instance, OK, maybe there was never a Jesus Christ, say, or if there was, he was completely different from the standard biblical Jesus.... even so.. doesn't the version passed on to us have meaning? And likewise with Muhammad, Buddha or whomever?

I can do that... way older religions are viewed as such, but for the now... while humans are meeting their ends at the hands of other humans in honor of impractical mythology, I cannot push the benefits of the current myths...
