  • the synth solo is f-cking genius.

  • thelikeasomebody bout as ignorant as the people here in "central europe" who specify they want a black piano player in a white tux for their party, or the ones who clapped after the brother in the white tux (and bowtie, gloves and shoes) at ellington's sacred mass was tapping (fordalord) waywayway wrong off the swing beat. just cuz you black don't mean you know any more about jazz than a white person or a green person. safe ta say that you are an ignorant so and so. people like you make me sick.

  • เท่สาส

Este es una versión de WATERMELON MAN, de la que tiene una hecha desde hace más de 20 años, magnífica por cierto, esta la convierte en "fussion & contemporany"

  • Herbie is one of the most innovative jazz musicians alive!

    When is this from?

  • Herbie is the man, this is from last year's Spectacle with Elvis Costello on The Sundance channel << great TV

  • @ArturRenzo it was shot Sept. 10th 2008, and aired with Season 1 of Spectacle in 2009

  • they were on this show in 2009 i saw it live.

  • @ArturRenzo look who's here...

  • @ArturRenzo The song was written in 1961 or 1962. Herbie is from Chicago, Illinois, USA.

  • imagine miles davis was still alive and these two guys would make another record again... that'd be totally outta space

  • These guys aint foolin around, what a groove.

  • hell yea some funk to the max right here

  • @fuzzmower especially since he has two of the best musicians around with him, Christian McBride, and Karriem Riggins

  • love soloing to this song. this is a great song!!

  • very good perfect

  • in the start i was like "wtf - is herbie getting old ?" But then after a min or so, the groove began, and my shock disappeared again :P i wish i had a keyboard like that, must be fun to play around with :P

  • indeed, i agree, but the original groove is still awesome

  • The man is a truly brilliant master genius!

Does anyone know where to download a high quality mp3 or wma version of this?

  • perfect!

great song, great band, great play :D

  • Great! Great! Great! These guys are a few of the living masters of groove!

  • Great video cool with the mix off the old and new(headhunters.......) version

Even the greatest misses some times, look att the patch change in the end. Herbie plays the clavinet lick first time with the horn sound and slowly changes to clavinet for the next phrase ...who has not done that.

    Fred

  • Karriem Riggins

  • Please tell me who's on drums.

  • I believe its Montez Coleman

  • It's Karriem Riggins

  • Also, herbie tears this shit up.

  • great show this spectacle till elvis costello decides to sing

  • I would sample the beat at 0:51 for a hip hop song

  • look... it's jazz... funky fusion... that's it... forget about hip hop

  • look, hotel california has been sampled for a hip hop song, and the beat is good. A lot of hip hop beats come from jazz and funk, so i wont forget about hip hop

  • You really dont understand jazz, or music, if you really believe that.

  • you can't sample someone that great..it would be disrespect to a song like that

  • Did you read my comment ? I wouldnt sample the "watermelon man ", just the bass riff at 0:51. It would make a great beat. And I would be proud if someone sampled A PART of my song.

  • please do shut up...

  • makes me love jazz music

    awesome!

  • def a jazz piece
