  • Build ramps damn mayors. Are you retarded or something?

  • Wow you're amazing, that looks really tough! Your upper body must be incredibly strong by now

  • @WaterIily Thanks for watching. I don't know about incredibly strong, but 4 years later, I'm not as fat (in another one of my YouTube vids basically doing the same stairs, Aug 2011.)

  • Thanks for showing me things that I thought impossible! Jimmy Shannon.aka The Crypt- peace and respect to you brother!

  • @wheelso4 That's why I posted it. Thanks for watching bro! I will redo this vid in the next few weeks to showcase some evolutions I've come up with.

  • the body is in good condition!

  • Dude, Ive tried this and it is freaking hard,

I tried it going front but there is difference in step height in every store or place you go to.

  • ..if there is a will, there is a way...glad the stairs don't stop you from enjoying a beach day with family. I've had to do this with my daughter who has cerebral palsy, and it's some hard work, lemme tell you!

  • Does he not have wheelbars on his chair?

  • @marinasvoice No wheelie-bars on my chair...is that what you are asking? What are wheelbars?

  • @ebaysutube hahah that's what I meant, wheeliebars.

  • @ebaysutube where did you get those wheels from, they are really cool, can you buy them in the UK

  • @Hawkmeisterful They are built by glancewheelsdotcom the web site show product and can tell you where to buy them, if you can't get them in England, offer to become their dealer....They are quite heavy tho

  • cool way to go against the conformity

  • @kay333ate644 Interesting comment... I do this because I can and to show others they can. The idea that most gimps don't do stuff like this so they can "conform" to some public perception of gimphood....Mmmmm...Food for thought...I'll get back to you.

  • chick in red 3:12..........Daammmmmm...

  • @kgb989 You're pathetic.

  • welcome!

  • Awesome!

  • Awesome!

  • I do have some stomach muscles under there but I don't think I use them much for this,T-12"complete" but my method does make it quite easy. I've seen a 90lb girl take my 40lb wheelchair up a whole flight with no practice and not even out of breath.

  • !!! Do you have ANY abs there?!? I swear it looks like your using your abs, maybe your just making it look as easy as it may be lol.

  • the ibot automatically climbs stairs for you

  • @LMA629 the ibot is junk and went out of production in 2009. Plus, if your able to push a manual, that's what u need to be in. With not walking you get no cardio at all sitting in a powerchair all day. I admit, I have both but my powechair is used for things like taking things to the dump. - C 6 quad

  • oooh that's a great way!!! why didn't I think of that before? XD

oh probably because I would have to take out my sidebar everysingle time....and my wheelchair's pretty heavy O_O

  • nice, how do yo uget down?

  • Good question, I noticed I don't have any vids show going down on normal stairs. Thanks will post soon.

  • grande 6

  • That's great. Please note the details on the method. Building the muscles envolved in this so you're ready when there is a chance to climb stairs. If you have stairs you would do every day please check my other vids. Thanks

  • Wow! Amazing. I've used a wheelchair since the age of 6. After having my daughter I searched for something to do to help me lose weight. I think this is it! Brilliant!

  • i'm a para at t5 and haven't tried stairs by myself yet but I think i might give that a try. Thanks for the idea.

  • great video. can't wait to try it out myself. thanks for the idea. nee to get my seatbelt.

  • As I mention, I used to do this for years with just a seat belt... With a light chair, a light body, good arm strength AND a low chair, it's quite possible but somewhat dangerous. The one-way cams make it VERY easy and safe(even with a HEAVY chair,a fat bod and not so great arm strength). There is more explanation on my other vids. Best of luck...guys like you are the reason I put these up. Erik

  • Great technique.

  • cool video.. but please get a new camera microphone soon... it seems uhm, broken... either that or some post-production editing may be needed or better encoding settings on the camera. seems muffled.

  • Hi A.S., Sorry,I know it sucks.I'm still no good at editing, but learning, not a high priority. What's wrong with the mic is that the camera is an Olympus725SW (Shock and Waterproof)and the mic is still full of seawater from taking underwater snorkeling vid and pics. Thanks for your comment.

  • Awesome... I tried this once but my X-core shattered on the 5th step. I used D's locks to lock the wheels manualy a real PITA can we see a video of you going down a flight of stairs? BTW I hav an ibot 4000... Altho doesn't work too well without a rail. T-10 complete/amputee above knee. I've been in a wheelchair for over 12 years

  • Hi PC,

D's Locks are great,I have some on this chair and I went through many designs to get here.

I have a seat belt on but the main thing that makes this SAFER and easier by 80%+ is the "hill-holders" I carved out of billet aluminum that are activated in reverse, see minute 3:15, not the red bikini. Regular plastic ones are strong enough, you can usually get used ones for free at any wheelchair store.

I will post vids soon answering comments T-12 "complete" 26yrs.Check out my other vids.

  • I'm a para at t6 and that is impressive, I might try that technique, not sure how ill do.

  • that is VERY cool. My husband is para and stairs are the biggest pain in the ass everywhere we go. I don't know if he could do that cuz he can't use his stomach muscles.

  • If he has decent arm strength,I'm sure he could do it. Maybe another seat belt around the chest so the back rest does not get caught in the stairs. PLEASE,note the "hill holders" in reverse action are what makes this possible for even a 90 pound girl in my 40+pound chair.(without even getting out of breath...I've seen it done)

  • What level para are you? I assume you are a para. GREAT job dude. I can't do that!

  • I don't get my bearings wet at the beach, the salt in the snow in Utah does a number on them though. Of course you at least need a seat belt to do this.

  • What a moving vieo! This touched so deeply that it caused me to JUMP out of the computer chair for joy! I am a proud supporter of the walking deficient, im actually going to RUN a marathon for prosthetic research.

  • This is a very clever technique. I am going to give it a try. One thing is how do your bearing fair in the salt water. I loved the machined spokes on your wheels.

If there was no handrail would you get out a climb?

  • Hi EK1962, Thank for commenting, please note that I'm using a ratchet system(hill-holders set in reverse)that locks the wheels on each step. I have climbed many stairs with no handrail without the hill-holders(from '87-'00 and 20 pounds lighter.)it's real easy now.You just have to be low in the chair.

  • Oh yeah, and you can get those billet aluminum wheels at Glancedotcom ,many styles and custom.

When it come up,I will put up a vid with no handrail, and coming down.

  • Please see new vid showing climbing without a handrail.

  • very encouraging!

  • Thanks, tonyracerdream,I wish I did,it would help for ski racing...This move is mainly in the arms and it's really is not that hard to do (because of the "hillholders",one way cams on the wheels)a 100lb woman para took my 45lb chair up a flight of stairs easily.

  • wow~~~~~ complimenti... Ci voglio provare anche io :-)

  • I DID pull it off,and I obviously have some trunk muscles...Do you mean I should have worn a shirt? I agree.

  • cool video, you got better trunk muscles than most ab guys. Tony

  • Nice job Erik, but you need some truck muscles to pull that off.

  • I mean "Trunk" muscles

  • @NotMe1357 Erik da 1st, until you actually TRY my method, you can't tell me what muscles you need. I would say your method needs intense truck muscles....Also, I still wonder about your aversion to seat belts

  • What kind of chair is that? I've never seen a back like it has...

  • wow~~~~~
