This movie is very good indeed and Gillian is wonderful in it.I have to say it is hard to see because of the the subjects that it deals with.Gillian combines everything.She's beautiful, sexy in a very natural way, a wonderful actress, and a special person (she's involved in many causes).

Oh, and for the doubters: if you have spent time in two cultures you tend to speak the same as the people around you. It is a *real* PITA to keep trying to stop yourself from doing it - you end up sounding like you have a speech impediment - you just have to go with the flow. This woman is an absolute genius at acting. In three different cities, for three different movies, I heard loud screams and cheers break out as soon as she made her first entrance. At the end of The House of Mirth at least 3/4 of the audience left crying, So i'm curious about this film even though it appears horrifying in away that X-F never could be. Gillian Anderson spent time in England; developed an English accent and was made fun of by American kids when she returned to the U.S. By the way, my neice is Canadian went to the U.K. for 10 years and her British accent is so thick you have to ask to repeat what she says!

she grew up in the UK! lived in the UK for the best part of her childhood (2 till 11 years old i think) and then went back to the US, therefore that accent would still be naturally noticable.

I understand that your accent would shift a little depending on which country you are in if you were brought up in both. But her accent goes HARDCORE english proper accent back HARDCORE american when she is back in the states and that is just not a natural subconscious unnoticeable thing to do. You need to force that dramatic change consciously. Looks a bit silly to say she isn't doing it on purpose.
GA lived in London until she was around 12, and spent most of her childhood summers there as well. Her accent isn't deliberate to my ears, perhaps because I was a trained linguist. & I have lived abroad. In LA, within a month of becoming roomates, neither boyfriends nor parents coud tell who was answering the telephone. Her English sounded like mine, my Mandarin sounded like hers.
She's not skinny anymore. Just take a look at the recent promo-pictures for x-files 2. She has put on some weight and it suits her pretty well. I still think she looks good here, a bit tired perhaps, but good overall.

Now I am completely aware of her background and since she grew up in two different countries its only natural to assimilate both accents. The Diana concert was a major international broadcast and so im sure she switched it to avoid alienating her fans but to me constantly switching accents is almost like she wants to be accepted based on the way she sounds. It can come across as being somewhat contrived and in genuine,it also can be confusing.She definitely needs to choose one and stick with it.
I said this on another clip but, I don't see why she can't have an american accent for acting and stick with her english(?) one for interviews and what not. It seems to work very well for Hugh Laurie. I would even say he's more respected because of it. I know I was very impressed with is acting ability once I saw both his work on House MD and Jeeves and Wooster...
This movie was really well played by the actors. Gillian Anderson was brilliant! Is her accent natural? She looks more mature then older in this movie, thats a good thing :) It was good to see a movie with her in it that wasnt like XFiles I saw how truely gifted she is in acting :)

That's not true at all. I was in London for three days, having been raised in America all my life, and by my last day there my friends were noticing that I was pronouncing words differently (and so were they!). That's just after three days and NOT having been born there/having an English accent as my first accent, like Gillian.

Why don't people do some research on people before they make a comment. Gillian Anderson spent time in England; developed an English accent and was made fun of by American kids when she returned to the U.S. By the way, my neice is Canadian went to the U.K. for 10 years and her British accent is so thick you have to ask to repeat what she says!

When she first started actually speaking english, it was with an english accent because she grew up in England during her childhood years. She changed it later on to fit in. I like the accent though, I wish she would speak with it all the time.

she grew up in the UK! lived in the UK for the best part of her childhood (2 till 11 years old i think) and then went back to the US, therefore that accent would still be naturally noticable.

Ok folks the thing about the accent.
I understand that your accent would shift a little depending on which country you are in if you were brought up in both. But her accent goes HARDCORE english proper accent back HARDCORE american when she is back in the states and that is just not a natural subconscious unnoticeable thing to do. You need to force that dramatic change consciously. Looks a bit silly to say she isn't doing it on purpose.

Her accent isn't deliberate to my ears, perhaps because I was a trained linguist. & I have lived abroad. In LA, within a month of becoming roomates, neither boyfriends nor parents coud tell who was answering the telephone. Her English sounded like mine, my Mandarin sounded like hers.

She's not skinny anymore. Just take a look at the recent promo-pictures for x-files 2. She has put on some weight and it suits her pretty well. I still think she looks good here, a bit tired perhaps, but good overall.

i saw her on the diana concert when she was being interviewed and she had an english accent. then when she went on stage to introduce the next act, she suddenly had an american accent? i can understand how you can adapt to an different accent depending where you live, but i dont like the way she just turns it on and off. she should pick one or the other and stick with it!!!

Now I am completely aware of her background and since she grew up in two different countries its only natural to assimilate both accents. The Diana concert was a major international broadcast and so im sure she switched it to avoid alienating her fans but to me constantly switching accents is almost like she wants to be accepted based on the way she sounds. It can come across as being somewhat contrived and in genuine,it also can be confusing.She definitely needs to choose one and stick with it.

I said this on another clip but, I don't see why she can't have an american accent for acting and stick with her english(?) one for interviews and what not. It seems to work very well for Hugh Laurie. I would even say he's more respected because of it. I know I was very impressed with is acting ability once I saw both his work on House MD and Jeeves and Wooster...

This movie was really well played by the actors. Gillian Anderson was brilliant! Is her accent natural? She looks more mature then older in this movie, thats a good thing :) It was good to see a movie with her in it that wasnt like XFiles I saw how truely gifted she is in acting :)

this accent is fake because i remember when i saw her on a british talkshow and she had it. okay, whatever, but then i saw her on ellen which was that same year and she did not talk with it. no matter how much i love gillian, it's very obvious that accent isn't real.

That's not true at all. I was in London for three days, having been raised in America all my life, and by my last day there my friends were noticing that I was pronouncing words differently (and so were they!). That's just after three days and NOT having been born there/having an English accent as my first accent, like Gillian.

Um, a little freaked out. It's just that she never had the accent before since she's been public. It looks like she is trying to have it because she is concentrating. She normally speaks more fluently...at least in what I have seen. It has the feel of like MPD or something. Too weird. Also looks really skinny. But pretty none the less. By the way, I use "one" all the time and can't say the last time I "bearniged a pisstake"...whatever the fuck that means.

I will agree that she certainly appears to be either a stuck-up bitch or moronic ditz who can't form a coherent argument. All depending on which "face" she wants to put on.
It's hilarious what a lousy actress she is in the case of trying to pass herself off as a cut above as far as "thoughtfulness" or "seriousness".

Never claimed she was Daniel Day Lewis or anything like that. But she has won a number of awards and she's done decent work which she has been recognized for, whether you like said work or not. If you think she is an AVERAGE actor, or ANNOYING actor, I can see that. But lousy? It doesn't pan.
