As a note for your future reviews, I'd suggest discussing the high and low points of each song. Your rating of songs with minor notes is not a review. Its just saying which songs you like on a number scale without saying why. The seeming reason for your disapproval of Quest for Fire is weak. Yes Dinosaurs and Cavemen were in different eras but is the song good? Further more, is the story in it good? To Tame a Land is about the Dune books which have Giant Space Worms and it rates higher.

For example Quest for Fire is based on a movie, so it's not the bands fault that dinosaurs and cavemen lived at the same time, they just stayed true to the movie. Die With Your Boots On deserves at least a 4.5 or even a 5. If you go back and hear it, it's got a lot of great parts and the SOLOS kick serious buttocks. Still Life deserves a 5, it's haunting and is uniquely Maiden sounding and Quest for Fire might be cringed by some, but you forget the interlude and melody it has...Quest gets at least a 4.... Piece is a solid 5+.....and at the time there was no other comparision.

This album could also be called: The Hidden Treasures Of Iron Maiden. I guess it is one of the most underestimated albums of this band, maybe of all I know. But there is more to it than meets the eye (or better the ear) in the first place. Of course it contains 'The Trooper' and 'Flight Of Icarus' which are both well-recognized songs, since they are both live-classics and great studio tunes, but that is far too less to judge the whole album.

All I hear is refinement as the same members grew closer musicianly as each new work came out.

Number is more raw than Piece as can be heard in Run to the Hills, a great rawish song.

Piece is more refined as can be heard in, dare I say, more mainstream songs like Flight of Icarus.

But as far as the band, Iron Maiden goes, including any members ever in the band, Powerslave was the best example of the band having all members on the same page and holding to the best and most intriguing theme.NWO

I agree with a lot of this. I think Piece of Mind is a lot better than Number of the Beast. Though the latter had some of Maiden's most classic songs, the other half of the album doesn't do much for me. I'm glad you gave Revelations and Still Life the credit they deserved, they're incredibly underrated, and I also believe Die With Your Boots On is incredibly overrated.

In addition to historical inaccuracy having nothing to do with musical quality, I'm pretty sure that song was based on a movie or book or something and the inaccuracy didn't even originate with Maiden. It's like saying Blind Guardian sucks for writing songs about LOTR because LOTR isn't real.
