This is a fantastic computer for the price, I just got a used one. The only real thing to complain about would be it's graphics capabilities. These are still without a doubt good enough to play HD video and things of that sort. If you are planning on gaming though this isn't the best thing to have.

Got this exact laptop for $320 brand new at Frys two years ago and it still works. So far, its the best laptop I've had. I did reformat with Ubuntu though.

I have had this laptop for 1 year now. I was very impressed with it. The best bang for your buck. Upgraded to Windows 7 no problem. The downside to this laptop is that watching movies isn't the greatest. The speakers aren't the loudest and as for gaming, it's pretty good but keeping in mind this is just a basic laptop. If you want to play games, buy a gamimg laptop even though it still plays modern games. Call of Duty, Rollercoster Tycoon, as well as FL Studio 9 Music production program.

@sjnblarry just want to ask... you said no problem in Win 7 upgrade, but mine has a problem in the Fn+F5 (Wifi) and also in some function keys not working when I upgraded to Win 7 Pro, already followed the tips on the lenovo forums and other google results but still didn't work... any suggestion? how did you do it in your G530? thanks!

So practice every day i work with software like photoshop almost like 10 years =) and i´m 21, so if you know how software realy works and not just copy, you are one of the best designers in the world. =)

Using this laptop right now, With XP pro installed and 3 gigs of ram (Have 4 but my XP pro is 32 bit ,so it doesn't support it). Can run TF2 at 60 fps... with dx81, oldschool tf2 pack, unfiltered textures, particles removed, the list goes on and on...

But HL2 and HL2 EP 1 pretty much run constant on all high. Same with CS:S and DoD:S. My L4D2 demo struggles to get 10 FPS. The specs are actually pretty decent, but the graphics card is terrible.

Pretty much the orange box engine is pretty laggy.

Go to Lenovos website look for the drivers section for your model and download the newest Vista motherboard drivers. My laptop now takes long to boot but everything else works fine.

Ahh, that must be the v52 bios from the 3000-g530 page.  I don't consider a 90+ second boot time acceptable though.

UPDATE: So i recently installed windows 7 Ultimate on my g530. The only driver I had to install was one for the scroll on the touchpad.

Everything was great until I tried to adjust the brightness of the monitor using the FN+ F10/F11 Keys which I realized is no longer working. Lenovos website currently has nothing to fix this problem(As far as I know). Has anyone found a solution to this?

ubuntu botched the latest intel drivers and will have video performance issues until the next release. Wireless works but does not support monitor mode due to the wireless chipset which is not replaceable.

@austin12keil I just got mine 2 days ago. The mouse pad click is a bit loud and I will add that the pad is a bit on the small side but I am getting used to it. The beep when u pull out the power cord is annoying and unnecessary.

I got the one with 3 gigs of ram and it runs well. I'm running photoshop CS4 no problem.

I was thinking of getting a netbook but i feel i got more bang for my buck with this baby.

I own this laptop. My opinion is that it is worthless. The machine is crippled to only accept a broadcom wireless card, no others. I have also had nothing but trouble with various linux OS, including Ubuntu 8.1, 9.04, 9.1, arch linux, and debian. save your money and get a real laptop.

This machine is crippled by Lenovo. For $400 one would expect to be able to at least change the network card this isn't a netbook. The wireless card on this machine is not replaceable and does not do monitor mode / packet injection, therefore no kismet or aircrack-ng. Advanced network tasks require a usb network device.

I don't think so. It has the damn Intel GMA x4500. That is not realy supported by osx. Ok, it works, but only in vesa mode without QE. Wifi is also a damn Intel 5100, what also won't work. Ethernet the same...won't work. So have fun with your "hackintosh" with sooo many working parts xD
