  • he was resisting arrest. therefore the seriousness

  • "The UK has not adopted legislation that forbids jay-walking, and no research has been found on the impact these laws have on pedestrian casualty rates."

In: Factors Influencing Pedestrian Safety: A Literature Review

  • 'I put a girdle about the earth in 40 minutes"... 4 years on, we can see how absurd this APEC circus was, and how easily conned our State government was by erecting a fence around the CBD and employing 500 additional cops to make Bush safe. He should have stayed on his ranch. Iemma paid $1.5 million for a water cannon to hose any protester who got a little too close. I suppose they hose Hyde park with it now. It didn't happen did it? No. I must have been dreaming. Ah, Titania, At it again!

  • This was not a violent arrest. They had a large number of officers so that he was arrested in a controlled way. Don't know the usual procedure is down under but I'm sure is not an automatic arrest.... Maybe he could have just been civil to the officer and accepted a fine. So what he was arrested in front of his son. That's his bad. Should have done everything he could to avoid it happening. Take responsibility for your actions an set an example to your kids i say.

  • it takes 5 cops to arrest an old guy for J walking, real pathetic. I had cops hasseling me out and threatening my infant children and i put in a complaint, now when the cops check out my name through radio they let me go straight away haha its probably on the system.

  • The best cops are the dead ones.

  • instead of getting Jaywalkers off out streets they should be getting the pedophiles, murderers and rapists off the streets.

Take action on something that actually matters. Bacon

  • Pigs are wankers what about his poor 11 year old son who had to stand there and watch that... Pigs are just wankers who were bullied in school and are now getting there own back

  • Yep cops are dogs when they want to be

  • He got Paid out for that. What a joke. He breaks the restricted area, resists

police, gets arrested, then gets paid out.

  • The jay walking Weird Al Yankovic impersonator is an a-grade dickhead and clearly has been for most of his life.Type his name into the Australian Newspaper and you'll see he has a history of being a rolled gold ass clown, hence his Magnum P.I shirt.

  • NEW POLICE ARE RACIST...

  • NSW POLICE ARE THE BEST ...

  • Now I know why there are many drivers speeding, drink driving etc majarial.

As the Police are at APEC throwning a man down to ground for jaywalking.

  • emanon86 the guy was warned not to cross the road at that particular section and he chose to cross the road, he can suffer the conseqences of HIS actions.

  • realworld3371,

Ever considered the core reason for such contempt being charged against nsw thugs, err police ?

It's the very actions of your fellow uniformed and protected thugs and the archaic laws designed deliberately to discriminate against lower income earners and ESL persons.

As soon as you realise that the uniform you wear is a disgrace to the crown and decide to leave for an organisation that does rehabilitate and aid, over prosecute and discriminate, you will find people respect you!

  • Part4 (last bit) the Police would still be criticised for not being harsh enough.

Or if the man crossing the road with his son was not stopped and that was filmed and put on you tube I guarantee that there would be individuals on here ready to say that Police were not doing their job. Lastly until you have the ability, courage, maturity and willingness to make the self sacrifice required to become a Police officer you should think harder before you criticise what we do. Thanks for reading.

  • Part3 FROM AN OFFICER. Police do not have a right to silence, and are considered guilty until they prove their innocence. How many on here would give up those rights to protect your community day after day for a pitiful wage, having to face people who dont understand what you do and abuse you because of their ignorance. People carry on that APEC security was harsh but it was displayed equally to all persons. If the heads of state were attacked and killed in our country in our country...

  • Part2 FROM AN OFFICER. No Police officer would risk their career on publicly arresting a person who going to resist without VERY good reason, breaching clear APEC security requirements you would have to agree is a good reason. As for the take down if Police dont follow these techniques and use excessive force they are at fault and bear in mind that Police are MORE liable to prosecution than members of the general public. Police you will probably not know judging by some of the comments...

  • Part1 FROM AN OFFICER. Having read the above comments and see that no matter what (we) the Police do. We will always be criticised. Policing is not easy, it is tough to become a Police officer. If any of you have tried you would know it is the toughest uni course in Australia. Police are taught to bring a person down in a very specific way more for OH&S reasons than the persons dignity and comfort. By the way the man was not injured when arrested, unless you include his pride....

  • Jesus toughest uni course aye? i highly doubt that for some reason....

  • police do a uni cause ahahahhahahahahha, none of em would have the brains to even pass a uni intro course. well said kalashinokov

  • @hoons69 I did thn left and got a law degree what degree have you got

  • @peter1968 god it only took 11 months to find a cop that did a law degree..lmao

  • If he is being arrested for what the video suggests, then thats digusting.

Australia took APEC wayyyy to seriously.

I was there as a tourist during the apec, and security was patheticly tight. All because of bloody bush.

  • @harrychown1989 HE is being arrested for refusing to give ID so they can write him a ticket, then he resisted a Further charge

  • what did the guy do??..i dont get it?..he was just walking and they arrested him??..wtf

  • the man was only trying to protect his glasses not resisting, glasses cost heaps but the police get there's free of charge via tax payers money so they don't really care, being it was apex the police would be alittle rougher

  • Learn to do what you are told!

  • According my my jaywalking history guess I'll get a life sentence...

  • but when u really need the cops there never there..

  • so fucking true hey, when me and like 10 friends have a bon fire at the beach with some beers, cops are there in 10 mins, 2 weeks ago at a party, workmate got beat up by 10 drop out cunts, nose bleeding and shit, cops didnt arrive for 55 mins, and when they came they just told the blokes to move on

  • good ol aussie coppas!

  • disgraceful police work there

  • Whats going on with good old Australia

    lost me

  • The APEC summit was hosted in Sydney an the Police was given special powers (APEC Meeting (Police Powers) Act 2007) and put under scrutiny. While the police did fail, or more safely put, did not yield the best result, on several occasions, we don't have the "whole story" though eye witnesses are supporting the police on this one who are better equipped to debate on this as all we have is a spliced video.

This is a nice debate topic though but many people are going about it immaturely.

  • spare glasses?? how about broken glass in your eyes?? think about it??

  • I wear glasses myself, been hit in the face while wearing it and it came out bent and got scratched as it fell tot he ground. I keep it as a spare in my car now =D. Raise your chin or look the side. Watch the video, he did it when he couldn't resist anymore.

  • Ha quite funny i witnessed thisincident and gave my statement to the coppers, funny the cameraman did not show the old dude snap and chuck a tanty and push the cops which made the cops arrest him!!!! i then saw hm start struggling and hitting the cops then the video kicks in but the video doesnt show thetanty, funny that huh?, good old media, just trying to mae shit up, oh well im loking forward to going to court as a witness for the cops!!!!!! see this poor sobbing losr go to jail, what a tool!

  • He was seen and video taped obviously talking peacefully to police before hand. They didn't use strong arms tactics until the police was obviously provoked.

They asked him to stop resisting, even if it was to protect his glasses, not like he won't be compensated for it if the arrest was unlawful and he wont have a spare. Furthermore even handcuffed he tried to push away "for lunch" I don't trust him at all, trying to be a matyr

  • and you have a video to back this up?

  • There are several witnesses and not everything is published in the media. To sum it up they agree that the portrayal of the event by the media is different than what they witnessed. Mild mannered father? He has a history of aggressiveness. Check out "More to father than a jaywalk" from "The Australian" by David King published on September 11 2007.

  • this article is terrible, to mention charges that were dropped in court, it really is a case of clutching for straws

  • Ah yeah both sides are clutching at straws.

What people forget is that the main topic is misuse of police power that the media wanted to provoke.

And clearly in this case there is not enough evidence here to prosecute each way. All we can do with this is bicker back and forth.

  • good work coppers, hopefully their heads roll over this travesty
