He, at urmasdrummer (or everyone else who uses the Utopia), how is this piece? I'm thinking about getting one of these, but I'd have to import it so I need to be a 100% sure about it - In this video it seems that it has a annoying dead sound the moment when you tread on the knobs, is that disturbing or can you work with it? Second thing I wanted to ask, how many distortion sounds are in it and how are they? Some sounds seemed to be pretty nice, but how many different dist. types can you dial in?
do be so stupid to think you will NEVER plug multi-FX units into the front of an amp. I've been using outboard preamps for 25 years...from the DOD Chain Reaction to GSP-21 Pro to RP-2000 to Vox Tonelab and even RP-3 and 505-II and Vamp-II.....I've plugged them all into an amp...for REAL STAGE/GIG use.
please for the love of god plug it straight into a PA so we can hear what it really sounds like standalone or give us recommendations as to how to use it propperly
Stay away from X3, it's crap, so is the GT10. This sounds really good, I haven't tried it but I did try the other ones and they all sound horrible. I eventually settled on TC Electronic Nova System, I had the X3 for 3 months, not very usable for live playing, sold it. I tried the GT10, didn't like it... I really liked Line 6 M13, but the Nova sounded a little bit better.
I just bought the X3. I'm not completely happy with it yet. Of course, all the presets are crap. I have done some tweaking by following online tutorials and downloading new patches. The computer to pedal interaction is really cool and there is alot of options. It still sounds digital too me and there is that annoying trebly noise thats hard to ger rid of. I'm running it through a Fender MH half stack. It's much cleaner than my amp distortion but lacks that earthy element that I like.
However, I play bass for one band and guitar for another and this pedal suits both. I don't have the money to buy two pedals. I have heard some recordings through the X3 using the USB connection and they sounded pretty damn good. I'm going to keep messing with it and see what I can do and hopefully I can be happy with it. Although I am very interested in the Utopia, looks like a nice pedal and so far it seems to sound great. It's in the same price range too.Making gear decisions is so stressful!
I gotta admit that X3 sounds nice for recording, but live is so-so, my tube amp didn't like it. I have a Line 6 UX1 for recording. If you can make the X3 sound decent, that's great, some people on you tube got a great sound out of it, I just didn't find very usable, especially when my tube amp has a beautiful rich sound and the X3 would suck all the tone out of it...
Right now I'm just running it through my effects loop and bypassing all the amp models. So I'm just using it for it's effects and still getting my original amp sound. Sounds pretty good this way, but I feel that the BOSS pedals have more and better sounding effects. Although, ppl tell me the X3 blows the GT-10 out of the water.
I also like how it doesn't try to emulate every amp under the sun. One unit just can't do that extremely well (other than the AXE FX for $1500-$1900). This thing has 5 amp models (the same that's in the Prophesy II and they all sound amazing in that system just as they do in this one. Hardly any amp models sound good on their own in the Pod, the Boss GT stuff, or the Digitech stuff. Every vid I watch with this things sounds amazing. I think I may get this instead of the GT-10.
I noticed you have a Rocktron Intellipitch in your tour rack. What do you think about it? Is it possible to post a video to show its tracking capability and sound quality?
correct me if I'm wrong here but isn't this for bass I realize it doesn't matter compatibility wise but y not just get one made for guitar? I ask only because I'm a bass player and this is so far with out actually playing it the best multi-effect i could find made for bass. and I figure regardless of the instrument i should ask how has it been working as I'm considering buying one?
This for guitar, the ones for bass are the B models, the one for guitars are the G models. This is the most expensive one of the bunch for guitar, the g300 retails for $529.00 on Musician's Friend.
che schifo la g300 l'ho presa testata 1 settimana e poi venduta sul mercatino musicale, suona 100 volte meglio la piccola g100 good g300 naaaa brrrrrrbrbrrrb
Well crap. Just as I was starting to choose between the Line 6 and the Boss GT 10; I was thinking I like the Boss better. Now Rocktron throws it's hat in the ring. Damn. Decisions decisions! Thanks for posting!
I completely second that. We're not seeing how the gain stages set up. Is their a boost pre gain so we're not saturated with a distortion? Modulation effects are pretty hard to screw up as is delay and reverb. Bottom line for me is, knowing the amp/pedal capabilities/limitations. I searched everywhere for a manual online, can't be found. All the sound clips on the site and youtube, it's the same gritty tone in general. Some units are prone to a very specific coloring regardless of preamp model..

Note-The Mega voicing is good for leads but it has a mid range tone that is a bit off for rythm. Use the british voicing for a good fat rythm sound.

i'm in the same boat. X3 seems to have more features but doesn't quite sound as good as this. the vox tonelab actually sounds pretty good too.

Perhaps learning how to use it first would have been a good idea? This is a horrible demonstration of this unit's capabilities.

What I meant is can preamp section be bypassed and g300 used only as FX processor with amp? One user claims it can't be done.
