I do believe you're wrong about the economy.

It doesn't control things like trader caravans and whatnot. It controls the dwarven economy, which existed in versions prior to 0.31, and totally broke the game.

I thought the economy wasn't implemented yet. It wasn't trade caravans, it was money being in the game. Dwarfs needing to pay for their rooms and whatnot. Even if you put "Economy" to yes, it's off.

i have a pretty old computer and i think im gonna leave this game alone, its kinda like minecraft you dont expect it to be hard on your pc becaulse the graphics, but there is ALOT of stuff going on

@LlanosDR The CPU will essentially break down and shoot itself in the mouth at the later stages of this game. All those cats and dogs and dwarves running around over 100+ levels with pathfinding and collision checks, temperature and body part allocation basically slow you down quite a lot.

This DF tutorial series is excellent. Really detailed explanation.

Enjoying it so far using the squared version of the default ASCII tileset (DB_curses_12x12).

Didn't understand before this why some people prefer the ASCII look, but as a curious n00b I like pressing 'k' and identifying the cute little symbols like several white g's that was wandering around my wagon who I tought were goblins (turned out they were ganders). It's part of the charm of the game for me.

I just got a virus from the lazy newb pack, i have had it for like a couple months now! I only used it twice and it said now (months later) that theres a virus in the utilities. I also havent modified it!

@MarkusmooStudios AVG often freaks out at a lot of things. Why it'd call this a Trojan is probably because it writes it's own files in the Dwarf Fortress folder. If you get it from the Bay 12 website, it is not a Trojan Horse, it's just a heuristic file detection based on an ASSUMPTION by AVG that this might be a trojan because of how the LNP works.

@l0rf Oh ok that makes more sense because at one point i remeber it said Minecraft had a trojan horse so you are probley correct.

AVG is better than Avira Antivir that called everything a trojan or virus based on anything it could find, but AVG still finds a lot of things that are like viruses but actually don't do anything harmful, like Lazy Newb Pack, because it can change the files in the Lazy Newb Pack folder like key binds and savegame compability for graphics.

I just have one little thing i need to ask.

When i press Play Dwarf Fortress! a black cmd thingy pops up and then dissaperes like 0.5 seconds later. I can't run it that way. What i think is that it is some kind of a start.bat thing that starts the program. No start.bat works on my computer.(i've tested 3 this far). Please, if you know (or paul :D), tell me why.

setting up the game is alright, setting up a sustainable fortress is what I find impossible so far. I can't even make a farm :,(

... or making my professional dwarves concentrate on their specific profession...

... and now the dwarf that died in my previous game is haunting the new party I made to reclaim that fortress.

@bitesh lol keep it up, things will get easier the more ya do it... but, if a dwarf dies, have you carpenter build a coffin, and set that in a room off by itself, then designate it to be used for burial, your living dwarves will bury the dead ones like this, then they wont haunt you! I'm not sure what you can do if you abandoned the fort while it was haunted and then reclaimed it.... funny tho that the game does it lol

Ive gotten far enough into DF to have all my dwarfs with their own beds, a dinning room, and a still. I still (oh fun, puns) think it's kinda strange that a drunk dwarf works better than a sober one. Well, anyway, keep on gaming!

@paulsoaresjr The whole thing about personalities and such is crazy. At one point all my dwarves kept getting killed by this pike whenever they went near the river. It killed so many my dwarf village actually gave this pike a name and a title. Then one of my dwarves made a crown with "An image of a pike and some dwarves, the pike is striking down the dwarves."

@paulsoaresjr I can tell you, the learning curve is more like a sledgehammer to the kneecaps. You get through that, it's the most intricate, entertaining, crazy, insane fun game I've ever seen. It's hard to describe what exactly makes it that, but it's just massive amounts of fun in a spiky, evil shell.
