I heard this might be a mere spinoff afterall... just to test the waters for a new Parasite Eve game. I really liked this game. It was very fun, lots to do and amazingly actionpacked. I hated what they did to Aya at the start, had hope when she got her witty, self-secured personality back during the Maeda parts...then destroyed her again by replacing her with her younger, meek, fragile sister. Like, literally.

@johncmcham Aya's sister name was actually Maya, who was the true "Eve," her organs were donated (liver) to Melissa Pierce who became the Eve of the first Parasite Eve, and Aya received her left cornea, giving her the abilities that she has though not enough to manifest as an "Eve." Eve from Parasite Eve 2 was cloned from Aya's cells, but instead of just having the "Eve" cells in her left eye, they're her whole body's cellular structre, making her more akin to Maya, Aya's biological twin.
endings like these...i dont know if it was suppose to be a happy ending or a sad ending; it just leaves the players guessing (which is kind of a good thing...i guess). it's so sad that aya had to die, but at the same time, it is great that the twisted are history and everything returns to normal.
by the way, after playing the game, i still dont know who is eve? is she just a random girl that have powers??? can anyone help me?
@Leterian as far as i know humans were just brought into a fight between the twisted and high ones. my guess is the entire NMC incidents had to do with the awakening of the mother, eve, which modeled itself from the memories of aya's true sister, eve who died in a car accident. now in 3rd birthday a time loop is going on starting with aya shooting eve to stop it, but in this continuum, aya manages to regain her memories and switches bodies with eve and has eve kill her instead, ending the loop.
@AimBotBoy eve is a girl found by aya in parasite eve 2 and found out to be her exact clone. eve was actually the name aya's true sister had but that sister was killed in an accident. this eve just like aya was infused with the NMC cells. now my guess is the NMC incidents was the whole awakening of the mother of the high ones, which also happens to be eve. this explains how aya, who shares the same cell structure as eve, is able to overdive without the device. i hope this made sense.

If aya really is gone SE just missed out on a very good opportunity to bring back a once thought dead series to become another one of there great franchises.
@PrinnyLover depends on the story writer, keep in mind that kyle at the end isn't dead, but will use his powers as a high one; to look for aya. this is actually a cheesy way for future game story line

it's a spin off people, so no need to worry. They even said it was a spin off. Hence the title doesn't say "parasite eve 3" it just says the third birthday
This game is awesome! Although the ending is really sad, I did like the way they made the last battle not with a monster, but against the protagonist instead. Not many games I know do that.

@bisakor Okay, Spoiler mode on. Aya in the game is Eve. The initial incident may have been anything, but Overdiving by that jerk trying to preserve the history of the Twisted and the High Ones--both basic Parasite evolutions of humanity, one from Aya, the other from Eve--had made Time Zero the keystone of this whole setup.
Aya simply got pushed too far. It's possible she sought to make sure no further Parasite incidents occur; as she showed she can Overdive to pull this, she's likely alive.
Yeah, also, one of the creators said that maybe after loosing her parasite powers as she had them (you know, combustion, pyrokinesis, antibody, and all) that maybe Aya had trascended humanity, if that and the Secret Ending is to go by, I think this is not the last we have heard of Aya, and she is most than likely not dead.
@anniejuran You might be right about that... Actually, we both might be right. It might be a true sequel (which is... kind of off, to say honestly) or if not, it might be a spin-off. The creator said that since this doesn't go along with the storyline of Parasite Eve 1 and 2, it isn't called Parasite Eve 3. However, you'll never know. But the real direct sequel to Parasite Eve series, it takes place a couple of years after the 2nd game. So you might be right about that. So confusing... @_@
For everyone that is lambasting SE, grow up. This is true literary work. Video games aren't just video games anymore. Stories have to be more than the usual hero stays hero forever formula. They're already doing that to KH, now to move onto a more mature story-telling. If only the fans grew more mature as well. This is obviously more of an interactive novel or movie rather than a straight up video game. And don't blame Enix either, they had nothing to do with the direction of the story.

So Squares saying If you beat our game a lot you'll get to see Aya with her cloths off. What purpose is there to the shower scene? Want a good example of one Iria: Zeram after all that Ira goes through she takes a shower cause she's tired.

Why are people unable to handle sad endings? Things don't always have to end well. Aya is dead, and if they bring her back in another game it'll cheapen this game's ending and make the whole story presented here a huge waste of time.

I fully expect the next Parasite Eve game to revive both Kyle and Aya.
Think about it though, the title is a spoiler. Eve started in PE1 (Not counting the movie), was cloned in PE2, and now takes over Aya in her Third Birth.
Either way, this is just straight crap for an ending and the secret ending doesn't help.
You know... this game wasn't PE3. It was just a spinoff... an "alternative universe" if you want. I.E even if Aya died here it doesn't matter because non of this has happened as far as Parasite Eve 3 is concerned.

Regardless, Aya probably won't be the playable protagonist in the sequel and possibly never again. Of course, that's all just supposition on my part.

This game is awesome! Although the ending is really sad, I did like the way they made the last battle not with a monster, but against the protagonist instead. Not many games I know do that.

i finished the game today. but i did not get the ending :{ is Aya = Eve? why does Aya want to kill herself? why does the SWAT kill Aya and people inside the church? ugh so many questions ><

@bisakor Okay, Spoiler mode on. Aya in the game is Eve. The initial incident may have been anything, but Overdiving by that jerk trying to preserve the history of the Twisted and the High Ones--both basic Parasite evolutions of humanity, one from Aya, the other from Eve--had made Time Zero the keystone of this whole setup.
Aya simply got pushed too far. It's possible she sought to make sure no further Parasite incidents occur; as she showed she can Overdive to pull this, she's likely alive.

Yeah, also, one of the creators said that maybe after loosing her parasite powers as she had them (you know, combustion, pyrokinesis, antibody, and all) that maybe Aya had trascended humanity, if that and the Secret Ending is to go by, I think this is not the last we have heard of Aya, and she is most than likely not dead.

@anniejuran You might be right about that... Actually, we both might be right. It might be a true sequel (which is... kind of off, to say honestly) or if not, it might be a spin-off. The creator said that since this doesn't go along with the storyline of Parasite Eve 1 and 2, it isn't called Parasite Eve 3. However, you'll never know. But the real direct sequel to Parasite Eve series, it takes place a couple of years after the 2nd game. So you might be right about that. So confusing... @_@

For everyone that is lambasting SE, grow up. This is true literary work. Video games aren't just video games anymore. Stories have to be more than the usual hero stays hero forever formula. They're already doing that to KH, now to move onto a more mature story-telling. If only the fans grew more mature as well. This is obviously more of an interactive novel or movie rather than a straight up video game. And don't blame Enix either, they had nothing to do with the direction of the story.

@shenotski Because it was an homage to the shower scene in PE2. Like you don't see shower scenes in movies, or even rape in novels. That's why I said "mature." I don't view her as a sex object, and I can name quite a few. That's only an opinion that's thrown around all over the media to say that someone in a shower scene is a sex object. That's not what that means, it was an intimate scene.

@Darkscoper The shower scene in 2 was for titillation it had no reliance to the plot.The shower scene in this is an extra when you beat the game 30 times. So Squares saying If you beat our game a lot you'll get to see Aya with her cloths off. What purpose is there to the shower scene? Want a good example of one Iria: Zeram after all that Ira goes through she takes a shower cause she's tired.

@Darkscoper Ignorant, much? Google "visual novel" and you'll see that 3rd Birthday is definitely NOT one of those. It's a 3rd person shooter that wants to tell a good story, but doesn't know how (breaking the "show, don't tell" rule on numerous occasions, for instance).

@Darkscoper Don't argue semantics with me. You know very well what I meant between visual and interactive novel. T3B is still neither of those things. Also, IHnMaIMS is not "a video game about a novel". It was based off a short story.
As far as the story goes: Yes, T3B was a pretty creative and original idea. But as far as the execution goes, it went poorly. In the hands of a better writer, I think the game could have been what it was aiming out to be, but feel to its own shortcomings.

I WTF so hard...like, i waited for more than 30 mins because i DID NOT want to kill Aya (or my childhood) they dont know it, but i am giving Enix the finger SO HARD right now. Why are people unable to handle sad endings? Things don't always have to end well. Aya is dead, and if they bring her back in another game it'll cheapen this game's ending and make the whole story presented here a huge waste of time.

Wow... I really didn't expect this.
That's awesome, let's just kill off one of our companies biggest characters from the golden age of gaming (the 90's). This is ridiculous.
I fully expect the next Parasite Eve game to revive both Kyle and Aya.
Think about it though, the title is a spoiler. Eve started in PE1 (Not counting the movie), was cloned in PE2, and now takes over Aya in her Third Birth.
Either way, this is just straight crap for an ending and the secret ending doesn't help.

You know... this game wasn't PE3. It was just a spinoff... an "alternative universe" if you want. I.E even if Aya died here it doesn't matter because non of this has happened as far as Parasite Eve 3 is concerned.

@LiquifyProductions I liked the ending. I always wanted to know what happens to the kid(cloned eve) at the end of PE2. Know we know, she takes Aya's place. I thought Aya's voice sounded redicously young, if Aya's 38 years old. Aya was 25 in PE1. Glad it was EVe all that time. Didn't you think Aya dressed like a teeenager. Aya walks past Eve in the snow(Secret Ending). Do you think Aya's going to let clone Eve be alone. Square will release PE1 and two again. Then a 4th with EVe and Aya.
