most definately.. Federer has kicked Roddick out of about 5 grand slam finals, also, in their 21 meetings he's only won once!.. Federer has Roddicks number and if Federer wasn't around, Roddick, Murray and Hewitt would be winning ALOT of grand slams
yeah but if Federer wasn't around, Nadal wouldn't have been on the scene to kick Roddick out of 6 Grand Slam finals... Nadal has only been on the major winning scene for 2/3 years, Roddick has been getting kicked out of Finals by Federer since 2001
@tvp900 might i add thats 1 more than Jimbo, Lendl, and the great Agassi! and 2 more than Johnny Mac, and 3 more than Becker. All of which are in the "All Time Greats Status."
I'm not the biggest Roddick fan on the planet (he watches too many points just bounce by) but I definitely do consider myself a fan. That said, it's pretty objective to say that 0:04 could be a logo for the USTA in the same vain as Jerry West's image on the NBA logo. A prime example of the unique combination of unparalleled athletics with the precision of golf.
I love Roddick's forehand. If he flattens it out sometimes, it can really be effective. Just look at his most recent match with Fed. He may have lost, but his forehand was great
it actually looks quite beautiful IMO...and correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it considered a great thing in tennis to be able to hit great shots off-balance, considering the fact that it gives you another advantage?...and bad Roddick forehands?...when people label him as having one of the best forehands in the business?....you're hilarious.
average forehand?....wow do you even watch tennis?....his backhand has improved greatly, but yes it's still his weakest shot...but his forehand is one of the best in the business, sorry to break it to you....he gets nice variety and pace on it, and it rarely breaks down....I'd say that's way above an average shot....I'd agree if you said he wins alot of easy points on a serve and forehand combo.
Actually, it would be easier because he is higher therefore he can hit with a downward angle and requires less topspin to get it over the net and inside the baseline.
Roddick rotates his upper body way to soon on his forehand, totally offsetting the momentum of the rotation and then he ends up having to "arm" the shot. This is why Roddick is unable to penetrate the court with his forehand and was unable to stay at the top of the game, a shame considering the greatness of his serve.
Also his footwork is poor and he always seems to be playing catch-up, but this could also be helped by having a stronger forehand to dictate point play with...

is this the shot that federer half volleyed back?
tolendoi123 2 years ago
After seeing Roddick and Federer who have arguably the two strongest forehands on the tour in slow-motion, you really understand what makes power.
Let's burn the next idiot who claims these wrists must stay steady or not moving.

@ShlongConnery 2x 03 Montreal and 08 Miami :), one of the most emotional reactions ive ever seen Andy give after a win in a non grand slam event.

@Glen260293 Check this out: without Fed, Roddick has...
2003 Wimby - beats Phillipousis
2003 US - won already
2004, 2005 Wimby - beats anyone else on grass
2006 US - beats almost anyone else
2007 Aus - has a great H2H against Gonzo
2007 US - undefeated against Davydenko and Djoker chokes in first slam final
2009 Aus - maybe beats Nadal in 5
2009 Wimby - beats anyone else on grass
so 9 total

How is that beautiful?
It looks awful, bad form, off balance. Its just another bad Roddick forehand.

Compare his forehand to any top ten players and you will see that his forehand is lacking.
Roddick is a good player, hes got great serve but his baseline game is not outstanding, average forehand and poor backhand.
His 145 mph serve gets him alot of easy points.
