Has anyone noticed how much Mick Mars' guitar sound on Motley Crue's "Too Fast For Love" album sounds like Andy Scott's in this clip? I have read where Motley cite Sweet as an influence, but you can really tell here.
@showaddywaddyfan i agree completely! there are very few bands that even come close to Sweet (MAYBE Shinedown). all music today is about love, sex, and drugs. it doesnt even hold a candle to Sweet, the Beatles, or the Rolling Stones, Bon Jovi, or Queen. i would give anything to be alive during the 70's and 80's! and this is coming from a 14 year old haha.
@ittems Your talking to a 16 year old who thinks that modern music is bollocks lol all true I'm afraid. I love oldies such as 50's & 60's Rock 'n' Roll and of course 70's Glam Rock.
@showaddywaddyfan i am too dont worry haha. but there were some good bands in the 80's; Poison, Warrant, Def Leppard, Cinderella, Motley Crue, Skid Row, Damn Yankees :D
So cool to find these clips! This is one of the few actual live TV performances I've heard from Sweet. Most of the TV broadcasts in the 70's made the musical guests lip-synch and/or "air play" to pre-recorded rhythm tracks. Being a Sweet fan AND a Rick nut, this is pure heaven to me!
@afterlee Get the F out! There are already WAY too many of us! I personally know two other Mark Walkers now besides yourself - one in Seattle, and one in England. We could start an army.
That is pure Hard Rockin' talent! Love the bass, guitars, drums, vocals... not in that order. The sweet rocked harder than any other group (including the might zep) of their time. Very talented!
Unbelievable this could transcend over thirty years of genre and you could put it in the punk, heavy metal, hard rock, all like the piece of a puzzle in music history and it would fit and not have a dated time line specific to one era. These guys were frigging light years ahead of their time!
first i immediately fell in love with ballroom blitzin the 70s and played it over and over and over again.a couple years later it was action! from the first time i heard it.a couple of years ago i finally heard sweet fa for the first time and again play it still over and over. Now,thanx to u tube,i watch this video at least 5 times a day.And while the rest of their videos seem to be missin something,THIS 1 IS AS GOOD AS IT GETS!Only dp speed kings and jp victim of changes 1983 match up.
@RamonesKaraoke I agree with Schbopo. @RamonesKaraoke should listen to the album " All the world`s a stage " by Rush. Geddy Lee uses a Rick on this record, and if you think it sounds horrible, you obviously have no ear for real Rock n Roll.
@RamonesKaraoke That rick sound is heavy duty! breaks windows and busts walls. Brilliant! So when are we going to have a new group that can do this? I'm waiting.
Brian was beat up by 4 guys outside a pub, they smashed his throat on purpose: that's why Steve had to do some vocals on the lp Sweet fanny adams and Brian had a ''raw rock voice'' since that event and never completely recovered from it.
I wonder what those fuckers think today, can't imagine they're proud of it beating up 1 guy with 4. Cowards!
That would be me--and I wish I was born 10 years earlier. My brother and I have been into SWEET since "Little Willy" in '73--saw them in '79--wish I saw them w/ Brian. They kicked ass then and kick ass now...end of story...as good an English rock band as any back in the day, and you all know the big'uns. RIP BRIAN and MICK...and LONG LIVE SWEET!!!!!!!!!!
I think his voice recovered nicely..Listen to him on Level headed. Steve had vocal parts throughout most of the bands history , taking lead on quite a few songs.
I always thought that this movement to a really raw edge was a nod towards what was going to happen with punk...this certainly kicks against the glam scene
Brilliant rock band - Sweet Fanny Adams and Desolation Boulevard are classics. Shame I never saw them - they cancelled the Newcastle gig in 74 and played in Sunderland a few months later but I missed it - apparently by all reports they were fucking ace and went down a storm - and the place they played was a well established hard rock venue.
brian got beat up pretty bad the bastards thought that hey he was a rich rock star with way more than his share of women so why is he trying to take theres. brian was just being friendly beating up a defenceless man pricks i wish i had been there brian they would have thought twice.
because Brian was beaten up - Sweet missed being support band for The Who, at The Charlton football stadium (London) - which could have meant they'd have gone on to be a really massive stadium band.
Who knows - we might have been talking about Sweet now - (with the same reverence shown to Led Zepplin) - if they HAD played with The Who.
We'll never know.
Damn good band, Sweet.
Thanks to the guys and gals who post their videos. . . they'll never be forgotten!
About the attack; it's told that Brian had stopped at a bar to buy cigarettes and that he started talking to and flirt a bit with some girls. Their boyfriends recognized him and got mad and attacked him out in the street, hitting and kicking him in the throat. They never got caught.
Absoultely fantastic band. they didnt wrote a single bad song. When i ask the other peoples in school i fthey know who Sweet are, nobody knows. too bad.
This performance is unbelievable!!! I love it! I love SWEET so much!!! They're my favorite classic rock/glam band, besides Aerosmith! (Yes, I know Aerosmith aren't glam!) I'm so glad I discovered these guys! This is real, raw, rock n' roll!! Just the way I like it! Rest in Peace, Brian and Mick!!!
The guys ROCK hard here. It's a joy to behold. But what strikes me as funny is how dead the audience is. I would have been jumping all round and shaking it hard. Wait...on second thought. No I wouldn't have. I would have been utterly mesmerized and stupefied, just like these kids.

I think the sound of the sweet did`nt only have to do with the "dirty" guitar riffs from Andy, but also the marvelous - unique drumming from Mick.

I think it must have been after the attack on Brian. The probs he`s having with his voice are obvious and he`s wearing those huge sunglasses.
nevertheless, this is the best version i`ve ever heard from the song, and the clanky sound of Steves Rickenbacker just fits so well.
