So you know, SRB2 has a (slightly glitchy) OpenGL renderer. It might warrant better rendering performance than the software renderer (which you are currently using).
Also, there's a pretty major release coming out in July (the fabled 1.1) that will add all sorts of new stuff, so if you're going to do any modifications, you might as well wait for a bit.
