@ThazuaBlackarrow Yeah... Fuck off? How is this not metal, metal's a rather general term these days, but I'd say this has the common traits of a metal song. But hey, if you have no interest in these guys, fuck off and listen to what close-minded fucks like you call metal, metal's no longer all heavy shit or whatever original metal is to you. It's evolved and branched out, broaden your horizons.
@CrayonJesus You'd think the last line in my comment would tip you off
This is Metalcore, or really, Commercialcore. AKA: A bastardization of an underground Punk genre that was called Metalcore. It wasn't even a Metal sub-genre when it was good, so no one in their right mind would accept it as such when it's trendy made-to-sell shit
It's like Emo/Screamo, two very real Punk genres that got some commercial fame and turned into two shit genres that have absolutely nothing to do with the originals
@CrayonJesus Broadening your horizons =/= accepting shitty music pretending to be something I actually like.
These guys belong in the same trash as Lil Wayne, Lady Gaga, Carrie Underwood, or Green Day. Not because they're different genres, as I like each of their respective genres, but because they're made-for-radio/trendy bullshit that only ruins the genre they claim to be a part of.
@ThazuaBlackarrow I take it you're the type of person who, even if they do happen to the like the, dare i say it, mainstream scene, then you'll still deny it. You're the sort of person who sees music as a way people see you, and if you like music which casts you out of what people see as normal music, then you'll have achieved your goal of becoming completely alienated with the rest of the world, and then resenting them because they're 'against you'. Liking mainstream music isn't a crime.
@CrayonJesus "and if you like music which casts you out of what people see as normal music"
So you still want to claim RtR is Metal? Because that's EXACTLY what Metal is. Music that has been cast out of what people consider "normal". It's an underground, anti-mainstream, anti-popular genre, very similar to Punk.
Just because you listen to dumbed-down, commercial shit that has gotten rid of/lost every bit of meaning the genre they claim to play had, doesn't mean the actual genre never had it.
@ThazuaBlackarrow It's hardly dumbed down, there is talent in the music. He has good vocals, both high and brutal, and the guitarist and drummer, both talented
@ThazuaBlackarrow You have to see the merit in others music than completely disregarding it because you don't like it. Automatically making everyone else wrong. Because you're the best. You can also bitch about all these successful people, asking yourself how they gained this amazing popularity, when the actual fact is that they must be doing something right, because people like them. Get over yourself and stop hating from your dark, litter-strewn room.
@CrayonJesus Mainstream? You mean like.. What? Motorhead, Judas Priest, which happen to be two of my favourite bands, and the most popular?
There's a difference between hating mainstream music entirely, and realizing that mainstream music is generally made up of bands who, A) very rarely, got lucky, or B), more commonly just play dumbed-down, accessible music/sold-out.
Yeah, they're doing something right business-wise. So is KISS. Music-wise? It's shallow shit pretending to be art.
@ThazuaBlackarrow I'm talking about all music, lets think outside the box for a second. Outside of the metal genre, perhaps? If you can do that, then I was talking about all genres. I like Pop, Rock, grunge, punk, metal and other sub-genres (from bands like metallica to suicide silence and ever thy art is murder) But seriously, to me, I see if I like a song, i have no problem with it. Apart from auto-tuned, can-hardly-sing-don't-write-their-own-songs cunts, whom of which i apply to the pop genre
@CrayonJesus Yes, I like Pop, Rock, Grunge, Punk, Metal, Rap, Country, blah blah blah blues jazz classical, the whole shit. If I had any reason to search for any type of Electronic music, I'd probably find something good there.
The thing is. EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THOSE GENRES, minus Pop, considering it's Popular, has anti-mainstream sentiments. Rappers hate fakes. Country artists hate made-for-radio country. Rockers hate sell-outs, Punks made up the term "poseur". Jazz is all about having soul.
@ThazuaBlackarrow I fucking hate country? And Rn'B? Really? And to add, I didn't say any of these were mainstream, I'm saying liking more acceptable music than hard metal isn't a thing to be frowned upon
@CrayonJesus No one said liking more music than Hard Metal is frowned upon. This isn't about BEIN SEW HXC EXTREEEEEEEEEEEME. I'll leave that up to Deathcore and the majority of Metalcore fans, who I'm sure like Rise to Remain.
This is purely about playing real, true Metalcore as opposed to the safe, commercial version for trendy posers.
@ThazuaBlackarrow 'Safe'? Safe meaning what, exactly? And the fact that this genre is metalcore, I'm pretty sure this is true metalcore. What would you exactly say is a 'true metalcore band'
@CrayonJesus Safe, no risk, success generally assured. Like playing MTV-sponsored Glam Metal back in the 80's, as opposed to playing something like Thrash Metal, or even good Glam like W.A.S.P.
Metalcore is a Hardcore offshoot with metallic attributes, favouring the more Traditional or Thrash approach, as opposed to their siblings Grindcore/Deathcore with Death Metal, and Crust with Black Metal. It generally covers "Crossover", too. Some bands include Converge, later Cro-Mags, maybe Botch
@ThazuaBlackarrow Exactly, so it can also be a metal sub-genre. The fact that it was going to be successful was just the fact of what scenario he was in, he has a father who is from the music industry, giving him a good chance in suceeding. Most of the time for other bands, it's down to luck or tenaciousness
@CrayonJesus No, it can't be a Metal sub-genre. It's base is in Hardcore Punk. It's no more a Metal sub-genre than Thrash Metal is a Punk one. It's influences do not make it that genre, its base does. Doom Metal is not Blues. Thrash Metal is not Punk. Death Metal is not Punk. Heavy Metal is not Rock. Metalcore is not Metal.
They would have become famous regardless, much like shit bands like Killswitch Engage and The Devil Wears Prada did, because they play a safe version of a once-good genre.
@CrayonJesus You'll notice that those bands tend to not have generic faux-Rock riffs, they mainly do not cut to pop-esque singing vocals, they don't generally have the typical bree-bree style of tuff-guy "metalcore" vocals, which is mostly a mix of Lame of God/Panterrible worship with horrible, horrible 'screaming', and they simply don't suck.
@CrayonJesus I said the Metalcore bands I listed don't suck. As in, when you asked what "real" Metalcore bands were, and I went about describing the differences between them and this.
@CrayonJesus All of which is very much accepted and encouraged amongst songs, some of the more popular (real) country songs ARE the ones about shitty, fake country.
But once you get into Metal (!(!(!()!!)!()!), oh no, god forbid someone try to even keep it true to the music/style/soul of real Metal. Metal is the only genre where hating commercial music makes you an elitist.
@ThazuaBlackarrow It's called sub-genres and shaking it up. Punk has hardcore punk, classic, pop-punk, punk-rock. Jazz has Jazz fusion, classical jazz, modern jazz, and a lot of other jazzes, just like every other genre, people have been changing and playing about with the original style of metal to create an altogether new sound.
@CrayonJesus Yes, and Metal has Heavy Metal, Doom Metal, Speed Metal, Thrash Metal, Power Metal, Death Metal, Black Metal, and the various sub-sub genres that come with each.
THIS is Metalcore. Which is an offshoot of Hardcore Punk. Making it a sub-genre of Punk, or a sub-sub genre based in Hardcore Punk. Which was good, once upon a time. However, bands like this do not play good Metalcore.
I'm not coming at this purely as a Metal fan, I'm coming at this as Punk fan, and music fan, as well.
I've heard of them before. Didn't really get around to checking them out. But then saw that they're gonna tour with Machine Head so I decided to go ahead and check them out and give them a chance. Thought they must be good if they're touring with MH... OH MY GOD I LOVE THEM!!! These guys are so great!!!

for once in this life i scorched the skies fu@@#^ badass i cant get this song out my head . IM TH DEVIL TURNING GLASS INTO SAND,IMTHE SHADOW ON THE WALL THIS IS SICK THIS FITH TIME IN A ROW AND REPLAY AGAIN .
Saw them supporting Trivium last year, and again at Sonisphere '10 (They started the most incredible pit) and then again at Hatebreed. These guys are gonna be huge!
austin sounds so much different than other clean vocalists from metalcore/posthardcore bands... he soudns like he's trained and he's hitting hte high ntoes correctly... but htat's cuase it's a gene from his father... but the other clean vocalists arent trained that well and they kept straining the high notes and they seem to give out when singing in live concerts
I keep saying this,... But These guys get better every time ihear them.. I got their Ep from metal hammer and disliked it. I saw them live at Iron Maidens sidewave and i thought it was okay. I saw them live at soundwave and i thoroughly enjoyed it and now all the songs so far out on this album have been listened to me shit loads.. atleast like 5 times today.. each!
@foREVeroli97 No, I saw them 2 times at Paris Bercy in France, and at the French Sonisphere! I wish I was english, 'cause they play a lot in England :(.
@AsDayBurnsNight Very good for a metalcore bad too...not really my thing any more, but they got me back into metalcore (and other subgenres in metal) last year with Bridges Will Burn :)
@PipBobalibus Im into all the old school shit, such as Iron Maiden ( For ever) Slayer, Judas priest, megadeth, etc. And death metal. But this shit is actually really good for a guy like me,
@JamesHazBeHaiTyme haha ya I know thats how i discovered this band. I only like this song by them. But Like I said, Im into the older stuff, and heavier stuff, so its not really my thing, But I can respect it.
I was agreeing wholeheartedly to what you were saying, you had a good point, & then... Oh, you slag off Power Metal. Really?! Come on, how naïve can you get? No skill? Fucking REALLY?! :L
Fucking love this band. And this song. And I will Fucking LOVE this album! Iv been waiting for it since the 20th of September 08 when I 1st had a taste of RTR on myspace! Iv had a blood lust since
@VxDRAGONSLAYERxV Mathcore came from metalcore and isn't half as widely used, nu-metal died long ago. Oh well, not that I really give a shit. It's just the pop of metal, 99% of metalcore bands are faggots with no talent and their audiences are all teenagerrs with undeveloped brains that know nothing about metal
I'd like you to give me your extensive knowledge of the metal genre? What is the most "metal" band? What is the best sub genre? Best Guitarist? Best Vocalist? Best song that give summary to metal?
@VxDRAGONSLAYERxV That's subjective. Obviously it doesn't change the fact that metalcore is completely generic and awful. The fact is there are bad sub genres within every genre, much like there are bad bands in EVERY genre. In the pop genre, Justin Bieber is factually musically worthless, yet he still has a HUGE fanbase. Does millions of people liking his 'music' change the fact that his songs are a complete pile of worthless aids riddled shit with 0 value? No.
See heres the thing, I've only heard what you hate, nothing of what you love? And really, that's all music is about, it's not about proving if it's significant or "worthy" of approval. If an artist can walk away from a song and say "I like that song" that's all they have to do. I'll tell you what though, I don't "like" Justin Bieber, or most Pop, it doesn't do naything for me. But music snobs are always worth then the music they dissaprove.
@s3177000 mate, do us all a favour and stop being a twat. Keep your opinions to yourself. Unless your max cavalera or kirk hammett, a lot of metalcore bands have a lot more talent than you, thats why they've been signed. Plus they're doing something a lot more constructive compared to some sad bastard going on youtube and slaggin off the first band he thinks of. Stop being a c*** yeah. If you want a bad sub genre for metal try power metal where its all computers rather than talent like this yeah
Fucking brilliant, City Of Vultures is gonna fucking own. You guys deserve every fan and sale you get, because you're all wicked, and this song... so much energy! Austin's voice gets better and better, it's fantastic in this song especially, and the solo is absolutely phenomenal, Ben you are a widdly wanker! You're are TOO good on that guitar! The bass and the rhythm guitar are also fucking cool, gonna be awesome learning this song, well done Joe and Will. Pat, the drums are insane as usual.
i was a tad worried when i heard the radio edit of nothing left, i thought maybe the whole album may have be alot tamer, but i am soo glad i was wrong, this song is fucking awsome
Chorus doesn't fit in with the rest of the song, solo sounded like someone had a fit on the guitar to the point where I preferred the fill riff behind the solo.
Rise to Remain you're a great band but I definitely prefer every song before this.
I am seriously digging this shit, it sounds pretty fuckin' sick. That guy is seriously talented on them vocals. What I would give to be apart of that family legacy.. :S
I just found this band and i'm glad I did, I still like Trivium the best, but these guys beat out We Came as Romans for me.

For a Maiden Offspring, this is decent. Good fucking song. Nothing compared to maiden tho
AsDayBurnsNight 7 months ago
@AsDayBurnsNight Then it's a good thing they aren't trying to be Maiden.
PipBobalibus 7 months ago
@PipBobalibus what im saying for metalcore, and for a maiden offspring, this is good for a complete old school metal head like me
AsDayBurnsNight 7 months ago
@AsDayBurnsNight Very good for a metalcore bad too...not really my thing any more, but they got me back into metalcore (and other subgenres in metal) last year with Bridges Will Burn :)
PipBobalibus 7 months ago
@PipBobalibus Im into all the old school shit, such as Iron Maiden ( For ever) Slayer, Judas priest, megadeth, etc. And death metal. But this shit is actually really good for a guy like me,
AsDayBurnsNight 7 months ago
@AsDayBurnsNight Well this is Bruce's son so ;D
JamesHazBeHaiTyme 7 months ago
@JamesHazBeHaiTyme haha ya I know thats how i discovered this band. I only like this song by them. But Like I said, Im into the older stuff, and heavier stuff, so its not really my thing, But I can respect it.

I was agreeing wholeheartedly to what you were saying, you had a good point, & then... Oh, you slag off Power Metal. Really?! Come on, how naïve can you get? No skill? Fucking REALLY?! :L

shit, metalcore has always been fucking shockingly generic. Worst subgenre of metal
s3177000 7 months ago
@s3177000
Mathcore, Nu Metal.
Just named two that are worse.
VxDRAGONSLAYERxV 7 months ago
@VxDRAGONSLAYERxV Mathcore came from metalcore and isn't half as widely used, nu-metal died long ago. Oh well, not that I really give a shit. It's just the pop of metal, 99% of metalcore bands are faggots with no talent and their audiences are all teenagerrs with undeveloped brains that know nothing about metal
s3177000 7 months ago
@s3177000
I'd like you to give me your extensive knowledge of the metal genre? What is the most "metal" band? What is the best sub genre? Best Guitarist? Best Vocalist? Best song that give summary to metal?
VxDRAGONSLAYERxV 7 months ago
@VxDRAGONSLAYERxV That's subjective. Obviously it doesn't change the fact that metalcore is completely generic and awful. The fact is there are bad sub genres within every genre, much like there are bad bands in EVERY genre. In the pop genre, Justin Bieber is factually musically worthless, yet he still has a HUGE fanbase. Does millions of people liking his 'music' change the fact that his songs are a complete pile of worthless aids riddled shit with 0 value? No.
s3177000 7 months ago
@s3177000
GOD DAY SIR!!
VxDRAGONSLAYERxV 7 months ago
@s3177000 mate, do us all a favour and stop being a twat. Keep your opinions to yourself. Unless your max cavalera or kirk hammett, a lot of metalcore bands have a lot more talent than you, thats why they've been signed. Plus they're doing something a lot more constructive compared to some sad bastard going on youtube and slaggin off the first band he thinks of. Stop being a c*** yeah. If you want a bad sub genre for metal try power metal where its all computers rather than talent like this yeah
Awesomesolos 7 months ago
@Awesomesolos Sorry bro but you're such a poor tasted low iQ fucktard on every level, I'm not even going to give you a rational reply

Pat, the drums are insane as usual.
teazy94 7 months ago
i was a tad worried when i heard the radio edit of nothing left, i thought maybe the whole album may have be alot tamer, but i am soo glad i was wrong, this song is fucking awsome
IAMLEGAND93 7 months ago
ive seen them twice and im seeing them in sheffield in september!:D one of the best live bands i ve seen and i love this song!!:D
foREVeroli97 7 months ago
I lost my metal boner at 1:04
Chorus doesn't fit in with the rest of the song, solo sounded like someone had a fit on the guitar to the point where I preferred the fill riff behind the solo.
Rise to Remain you're a great band but I definitely prefer every song before this.

Not bad :) Lol @ the obvious tech riff at 0:48 :p
