You have to remember in the 80s it was supposed to be wrecked out and replaced. When the engineers unbolted the bridge decking from the pylons, the bridge ROSE 3-4 inches off the pylon.
It's an Arched Through Truss.. Meaning that until the center starts to sag any, the bridge is strong. Sure, it's not very wide, but for the traffic it gets, it does the job. And it beats driving around to Clinton or Dubuque.

I've been there. Pretty bridge but not a lot of room. At least they put a center stripe.
