It also played a major role in winning both WW1 and WW2. Had they not participated in WW2, Hitler would likely have won and conquered the entire world.

The primary reason they did not was because of supplies sent to them by the USA, as well as pressure taken off them by the US attacking Germany in Africa, Italy and France. The main reason they were not conquered was thanks to poor planning on the Germans' part. They had not planned on the dirt roads in Russia turning to mud (had they equiped their tank crews with "duck feet," this wouldn't have been a problem), etc.
