About 1972 I read in my local paper that Doc & Merle were coming to our local high school for a Sat night concert. I had just "discovered" Doc. Best concert of my life was on a basketball court. I'll NEVER forget it!
These three guys made MUSCIAL MAGIC together. It's so sad that Merle is no longer with us. For another take on "Don't Think Twice", check out the Joan Baez version.
Beautiful voice, I don't know why more people don't remark upon that. His pitch, the way he harmonizes with the melody, it's so beautiful. It makes me want to write.
i am very proud to have lived in the same era of time that doc and merle did. i grew up listening to them and have continued though out my life and when i pass on i'm sure there will be a few of there albums laying around my house all worn out. There has never been a better musican then these men and i feel very blessed to have gotten to listen to them i only wished i could have met them.
there is also a sweet version of "dont think twice" by chet atkins and jerry reed , on youtube. its kind of like the other book end to this version. they are both incredible in there own way.
Got to see Doc, Merle and T. Coleman Dec. 1983 @ the Down Home in Johnson City TN for the annual Christmas show. This sure brings back alot of memories! Thanks!
Thank you so much for uploading this awesome video. Miss ya Merle, A true Maestro, truly filling the shoes of your father, the Maestro of Maestro's: Doc Watson...

This was from one of Doc's best albums. It had the best, maybe definitive, version of "Under the Double Eagle" on it too.
Everybody talks about Doc's picking, but I always thought he had a wonderful, warm and friendly voice too.
