This was such a great song to do drugs by! Back in the 70s I'd smoke a gram of hash, slap on the old headphones, and trip all night to The Moody Blues, especially this album and song.
One person disliked this...they must have hit the dislike by mistake...This is one of the sweetest songs ever written...Justin's Guitar, John's Bass. Edge on drums and Mike Pinder's Mellotron make me think of times things were so nice and Peaceful
As much as I still enjoy the Moodys, I miss Mike and his vocals and mellotron, was lucky enough to see them twice in the 70's before he left, on the Seventh Sojurn tour in 72 and the Octave Tour in 78. Fantastic!!!
I had the pleasure of hearing Mike Pinder's Melllotron back in '71, w/ the Moodies 1st American tour. You can think of a lot of adjectives for the sound of a Mellotron. Without a doubt, the most beautiful-sounding instrument (?) ever.
Exeptional keyboardist Mike was and is. His melletron is very haunting and unique. I just can't say enough about this wonderful band. I can listen too the Moody Blues all day. I am a little biased when it comes to this era of music. I liked a lot of bands. ELP were my favorite. Therefore i think Keith Emerson was the best keyboardist. However, Mike Pinder is a close second. Both of these men are incredible on the keyboards. I just wish I saw Mike play with the Moody Blues.
I listened to the premier of this album in a car radio ('67Mustang)the evening it came out. It was indeed dedicated to the moon landing earlier that year, but the whole album speaks man's spiritual journey as well as the cosmos. My favorite song and album - by anyone.
The Moody Blues and their genius needs no explanation. People who LISTEN, get it. As for Hall of famers elsewhere, comparisons are embarassing. Most receive awards for self promotion, bling wearing, public meltdowns, bizarre behaviour, Karaoke performances (Justin Bieber, Britney Spears, Lady Gaga come to mind) and singing out of key. No one is going to go to their grave saying a Justin Bieber song changed them but many flute players say Legend of a Mind and Voices in the Sky inspired them.
The whole band were a collection of poets, mystics and bards. Their combined sum equalled sublime excellence. This song is one of my favourites....it highlights the curious optimism of mankind
@frizzlefrap Came from the album, " To Our Children's Children's Children", - 1969 ! Heard on a radio show that the album was a dedication to the space race and man's achivements ! The Moody Blues are a favorite group of fomer shuttle pilot and commander " HOOT " Gibson as he played tracks from this album during the shuttle mission dedicating them to the band members for their creative inspiration to him and others alike ! Enjoy the music.Remember - "Thinking is the BEST WAY to TRAVEL"
With the greatest respect to Elvis Costello, the Pretenders, Bonnie Raitt, The Loving Spoonful, Blondie and Lyrnyrd Skynyrd, for example, The Moody Blues has a much greater body of work, better album sales and sheer musicianship that NONE of the above can match. So why are they not Hall of Famers? Is it because they are Poms or is it because their music is too complex?
@trufflehund what is this obsession with the Hall of Fame - its a complete joke anyway- outside america no-ones even heard of it sooner it dies and is forgotten the better
As always...a great song. Takes me back. The good, easy, simple time. That time of innocence. When I had not found the world outside of school...just being a kid...a teen. But the Moody Blues music brought love into my heart...of what I wanted...needed...and searched for.
Out and In -- WARNING: This art song is revolutionary: it may transform your consciousness as it did to not quite enough of us in the 1970s -- The bridge: If you think its a joke, well that's all right do what you want to do, I've said my piece... in the clear context of --> Wonders of a lifetime, right there before your eyes, searching ... the Journey of Consciousness Outward & Inward -->The bridge & verses, the Mellotron, the gracious fine art music<--all said Yaw, you can take that journey om
This masterpiece is the best of the best of the best: the best in the album TOCCC, which is the best album by the MB, who are, no doubt, the best group in the world!
Such a GREAT 'outro' song for an album ; one of the BEST albums EVER !
Mister Mike Pinder is one of Rock's most underrated musicians ; he introduced the Mellotron to Rock ( he worked for the Mellotron company for a spell ) ; he operated that tempermental instrument with such composure and grace .
Can a song lift you up on a cloud of tranquility, transport you to a place of calm? This one does that for me. The Moody Blues were giants and left foot prints that may never be filled!
One of my all time favorite songs. The mellotron is overwhelming in the production and I still feel that it takes me into another level when I get lost in the "sounds of life" on this recording. I have read that Mike Pinder drew from his experiences as a boy looking up into the night sky when writing this song. Critics said that it was overdone, but the song needs the mellotron to get to the depth of what Pinder is trying to convey. The critics are wrong.
A month is too long for this song to not be celebrated and praised. The Moody Blues took us to the Stars and beyond. We are so lucky to have their music, nothing today comes close!
mellow is the word for the moody blues you just want to absorb the music, let it run through and around and all over you. very creative era in music history. maybe because the producers were as high as the listeners.
Great, amazing song from those early days of being labelled Cosmic rockers, the Moody blues. The video is excellent too, i rate as excellent.Thank you aristacourt. Erik
First heard this song in 1971 and always loved it since! Listen to it in 8-track stereo with headphones. Just amazing how it lifts and floats. Mike and that mellotron of his... there is no equal. To Mike, as I replied privately last month, here I want the world to know that again, thanks, for your support and inspiration. Although the moodies have never sounded the same since your departure and I miss your presence with them, I do understand your leaving. Sometimes we all have to move on.
This song deserves the very fine choice of pictures in this vidéo . Thank you ! This music give us an idea of eternity...It can be listened thousands...Oh!!!Never boring!Deep creativity of those years ! Awakening secret's landscapes of our mind. Timothy Leary himself , great traveller of these levels was astonished by their music ! Wonderfull testimony for children's children's children!...
