Yes, people, as you know, you "Americans" Speak English. We Pronounce words different in the UK, (How they should be), due to accents. We say Route like (Roote) End of, shut up.
@Southendaa Is it an accent thing? Or do the English just call it a rooter and the Americans a router (even though they spell it the same)? In Holland we use the American pronunciation (or word) nowadays. But when we got our first one, about 12 years ago, we actually called it a 'rooter'. At some point some people made it clear that it was wrong and that we should call it a router...
For all who say it is pronounced "rowt-er" because it is derived from the word "route" please shut up. You are just embarrassing yourselves. Route is pronounced both "rowt" and "root." Look at Route 66.
I have a DS Lite, so WPA on my computer is not compatible. The thing is- I have WPA, not WEP, and I don't plan on changing to WEP, because it might mess up my internet settings. I've looked into getting a WiFi USB connector I seen ( Belkin F6D4050ed Wireless N150 USB Adapter. )
Now what I want to know is will this help me get on the internet giving me the Wi-Fi I need ( Even though my netgear wireless router is a WPA ) and if so will it affect my internet on my laptop that Im using now.
can this unit be placed horizontally or is the desk stand permanently fixed to the unit?
i dont like how most N routers have internal antennas nowadays. Id much rather have external antennas, but for my setup placing it flat is much better and more stable than placing it vertically
Governor, the word router is derived from the word "route - to direct or arrange for somebody or something to follow a particular course"
I am born and bred English sunshine. I don't need pronunciation lessons. Besides the US invented the internet, so you should pronounce it their way.
I simply think for someone to come across as a reviewer who knows what they are talking about, at least pronounce the item you are reviewing correctly.
@nigeltc76 I don't normally respond to comments like this, but for someone who does not live in the UK you really do not know. I have never heard anyone here say it like you do in the US.
In certain parts of the U.S. they sound like they have suffered a serious stroke. They do not have an official language and amazingly in this day and age they have the highest illiteracy rate in the West. Providing them with technical support is a nightmare. Most of them cannot change a fuse in a common household plug. Don't believe me? Ask around..
@davomrmac haha sorry you had to get that comment. I think it's funny the way you say it, as I'm sure visa versa. how much is internet service in england? say..5 mb/s?
i have this exact router and it was working fine but my sister bought a laptop and now i need to type in a password to use it with my ipod touch and my sisters laptop's keyboard was all fked up and it got returned and the pass is still on the router but i dont know what it is can someone please repond?
plz can u help when i have this router set up for some reason i still disconnected from my ps3 and my wii online there both close to the router the signal is full but still for some reason i get disconnected but yet my pc works fine! plz can any1 help?
linksys is the way to go because belkin has random disconnections. also linksys is made by cisco...the people who are genius with networking and internet
dont buy this router for three days i tried to get it working.could not get it working for mw2 online or to work on the xbox 360 at all.brought back to pc world got a netgear in instead had my laptop playstation 3 and xbox workin in an hour. if u want hassle free set up netgear n is the job.you are warned ,and im computer savy and was on to belkin for two hours.opened all ports firewall etc
I have to laugh when people post a negative review of a piece of hardware because they cant setup and configure it properly. I don't own this router but I am watching video reviews to help me make a decision. It was likely some simple setting you missed. In fact, I'm willing to bet most people wouldn't have issues setting it. Typically the harder it is to setup then the better the features. I used to own a D LINK gamers lounge router and that was the case.
if i want a wireless router, do i just buy it on its own and connect to phone line? or must i also have a modem that connects to phone line and THEN to the wireless router? my internet is adsl2+
There are two types of internet. Some are a service that requires you to run a phone line into a router/modem hybrid. Other services supply you with a modem and you plug it into the router.
You should contact your ISP (Internet Service Provider) to find out which to get.
hey i have a question. i have the belkin n wireless router model f5d8236 V3, the wired works great but the wireless light wont come on and i cant get it to come on. what do i do? please help

@davomrmac i have a question. does this router give u better gaming experience. cuz i have the belkin g plus and i lag. does this router help u not lag? or do we need a modem to help not lag?
@davomrmac hey i bought this router and my my internet speed really slowed down when wireless over xbox live but when my xbox is wired to the router speeds are back to being fast again, any tips on how I can solve this problem.
Right i need some help!!!!! Anybody please! My isp (Orange uk) have checked my line and apparently my estimated speed is 2.0 meg. Is that good or bad? because i think its bad seemign as all my friends nearby are downloading at speeds of 7.5 mbps? im confused why mine is only 2?
YES, the faster you want the most it will cost you from your ISP provider. Comcast and qwest...the DSL/modem also has to support higher speeds. The right DSL/modem for the right speed.
This router will get around 140 mbps wirelessly if you have security turned off. With security on however, forget it, it only reaches 25 to 30 mbps. Also if you connect a USB drive you will only get 18 to 25 mbps, connecting the same drive directly to my computer and I get 250 mbps. The processing power of the unit is not good enough to deliver anywhere near a decent performance with security on and the supplied storage manager software is very very slow. I am returning mine.
if you were smart, you would know that router is pronounced two ways period. the base word ROUTE is prounced as ROOT and ROwT. Time to go back to highschool :p
I have hooked up my 360 wirelessly and it works fine with a strong signal from about 25m away, i got 2 wired pc's connected to it with 1Gps speed and my wireless pc aboout

Great review, Dave! Keep it up! By the way, I bought a router similar to this and it only cost $60, which is about 30 or 35 pounds i the UK I believe.
I had a similar router and as far as I can tell Belkin are the worst company to use. It seems to varies to each person. I seen people with wonderful things to say about it and people who had horrible. I had problems with port-fowarding on the router and DMZ not working.
