On CBS on New Year's Day 1991, Miami throttled Texas 46-3 in a Cotton Bowl marred by rampant penalties and general thuggery. Color analyst Tim Brant sarcastically noted towards the end of the game, "So much for the Dream Season."
@Market42Fan And Pat Summerall ends up out of commission for the remainder of calendar year 1990 after vomiting on a plane after the Redskins-Bears game (a result of his hard-drinking ways caught up to him).
@Market42Fan lets not forget, the World Series ended in a sweep, and save for 60 minutes, Evening Shade and Murphy Brown, their overall primetime lineup wasn't too strong either. In a way it was the beginning of a nightmare decade for the Tiffany Network that also included losing MLB and the NFL after 1993 along with a lot of their stronger affiliates then a huge slide that wouldn't stop until 98 with the return of the NFL and the debut of Everybody Loves Raymond
Ok. uh, quick question. At 0:39 they talk about Serial 31??? What the f*ck is that? Why would you call it SERIAL 31??? I've heard of channel 31, but SERIAL??? WHAT?!?!?!?!
You know what is really cool? How CBS doesn't fight for this stuff to get taken down. NBC would have axed this months ago. Sure makes me want to watch CBS more.
they learned their lesson about the NFL alright... I don't think anybody at Black Rock would ever dream of not bidding enough to keep the rights from now on, even though they have the AFC instead of the NFC
I remember that year. Basically they had no need for other TV shows cause there weeknight primetime line up was log jammed with sports. Still was not a great ratings time for CBS
That was a very formidable lineup! Since then, only one network has come close to this: ESPN, which had the rights to NFL, NBA, NHL, and MLB in 2003 and '04. But they had no championship events.
I doubt that even the ESPN lineup will ever be repeated. There are too many competitors and all of them have only so much money to spend on the rights.
And, oh yes Tamalie, I remember the '90 all-star rain delay. Why CBS showed Rescue 911 instead of some baseball film, I'll never understand.
The Dream Season was a nightmare for CBS in many ways. The Super Bowl was the biggest blow out ever at the time. The World Series was a 4-0 sweep. The NCAA Hoops Title game was a blow out. The MLB All Star game was ruined by rain delays. The US Open Tennis Men's Final was a 3 set sweep.
the rain-delayed MLB All-Star Game was also boring on the field (little offense), the NFC Title game was a blowout, the NBA Finals were not very competitive.
I believe it was William Roscoe Mercer, better known as DJ Rosko. Before he worked for CBS Sports, he had become one of the first African American DJs for several AM stations in Pennsylvania, New York City and California.
Beeker425 is correct. "Marching Season" for the "Dream Season." Like many folks in the early 90's, CBS drew from the well of Yanni as evidenced by another piece composed by him, "Reflections Of Passion," which the network used for its Daytona Speedweeks coverage. Yanni & NASCAR; who would've thought?
I do believe you're correct that the 1990 Speedweeks music used was Rain Man; the score which put Hans Zimmer on the map. As for Yanni, I should be more specific; his "Reflections" theme was used as exit music for both the 1991 500 & 125's and possibly the '92 Speedweeks as well.
Just because the last thing he posted before suspension was CBS Sports material didn't mean that is what got him booted. The YouTube admins don't constantly keep track of every new video every user puts up. It happens when copyright holders find their own material on YouTube and report their issues to the site.

Let's see: they lose the NBA and college football (for a time), show precious little MLB action, the NCAA final is a blowout (as is the Super Bowl).
How's that for a dream season?

@professorintellect But Everybody Loves Raymond debuted in 1996, and I think Murder, She Wrote was still popular in 1990.

What the hell?! Fox should've sued CBS for blatantly copying their logo!
SpeedyRaven2000 2 years ago
@SpeedyRaven2000 well Fox eventually got most of CBS's biggest properties (NFL,NASCAR/Daytona 500,MLB) so they really didnt have to haha

I remember the promo itself, it was so exciting - the music, the effects, the way it built. I am so GLAD you put this on YouTube - thank you!!

Great Promo! Really CBS had them all!, then after 93 it was no longer the Network of champions after they lost NBA, NFL and MLB.

The Daytona 500 was the only bright spot for CBS's "Dream Season", as that race was settled on a last-lap pass.
W61883AAC 2 years ago
Yeah, now that you mention it how everything else that year was pretty much a blowout (example: the Super Bowl).

@W61883AAC Also, the Masters that year went to a sudden-death playoff (won by Nick Faldo on the second hole).
