  • I consider myself fortunate that I got to see Gavito once on a trip to Bs A. This was just before he passed away. He had that passion for the dance up until the end.

  • Gavito is my hero in Tango. I would do anything to learn Tango from him. Too bad he passed away.

If you only show me his legs and not his face, I can tell immediately that's Gavito because his style is very distinct and beautiful.

  • Carlos Gavito passed away in 2005. He battled cancer for several years.

  • Is he ill?He is so thin compared to before.

  • nothing worse than an eyed-closed follower trying to reach the tango-paradise dancing without knowing the tango lyrics, the orchestra...and that´s something very common when the couple is at the begginers level. When you see a woman with close eyes and dances well...that´s because there´s a communication with the leader, and the music beats at their hearts at the same intensity.

  • i agree with your sentiment, i don't like faked emotion, or a mask. but i don't like your conditions - people can feel the music intensely without understanding lyrics. and knowing the orchestra doesn't change how you connect emotionally to the music or your partner.

  • yep, making faces (popular especially in stage tango, and thence transfered by some dancers to social dancing) does not a dancer make and fairly easy to spot...
