Avery's job is to get under the skin of the opponents best players and obviously it worked on Brodeur. Sure what he did wasn't really right, but it wasn't against the rules at the time. Brodeur should have sucked it up and showed some class like a future hall of fame goalie should. Brodeur was just a sore loser here.

Here's the difference between the two: Brodeur will go down in history as one of the greatest, if not, the the greatest goaltender of all time and be remembered for years to come. While in Avery's case, no one will remember him in the next 20-25 years.

Avery didn't extend his hand either...What Avery did in that series was illegal par the rulebook. BUT, it was up to interpretation. Play should have been stopped because of Avery putting himself into an unsafe playing situation. Broduer tripping Avery was legal because Avery was in his paint. That is our paint, you step in you're going to get hurt. Just ask my buddy, played varsity against eachother, after the game his calves were bleeding from me slashing him

As a goalie, you should know that tripping a player in the crease will get you two minutes for tripping or interference...you can't interfere with a player trying to make a play on the puck or from getting position as he can't prevent you from making a save or positioning yourself...am I the only one that this makes sense to?

The Rangers were ahead 5-0 midway through the third period, I believe. Usually, in hockey, fights serve a purpose: to change the momentum of a game, and at that point, the Rangers had a stranglehold on it. So it's easy to understand why Kovalchuk wanted to fight, but it just wouldn't make any sense for Avery to engage him in that scenario. BTW GO RANGERS!!!
