  • One of da best books I have ever read in ma entire life

  • This is a story that truly touched my heart and made me to rethink about my life. We should never take life for granted which most people do. Do something for your life that you believe it could make a difference to the world. I am very respectful to this man and his experience in his early life.

  • I am reading this book now for my project and its soo very sad, like i even get teary.

  • this book is awesome

  • wat gets me about this book is that its so recent, and he was around my lil cousin's age when it happened too, smh this world we live in is brutal.

  • this book made me cry

  • best book i read so far

  • just read the book for the 3rd time to let it sink in

  • why must a man take up sticks against another man? could he not use those sticks to prop a man up? As time wore on man only became better and more efficient at ending his fellow man, yet at its core "war, war never changes". what's worse the fact that man continues to preform progressively more sadistic acts of hate or that I have come to expect it? (a personal question)

  • it was never your fault and u shud never take it offensively but fell happy that it wasn't..

  • i read this book in one day! i just couldn't stop reading...wawz! This man >>>ISHMAEL BEAH IS MY HERO!!!!!

  • Sad while you making money while your victims languish. The world suck.

  • You having good life while your victims languish. Our mothers were chop to pieces while sisters rape. The world suck.

  • @MultiRomeo1977 HEY ARE YOU ONE OF THE VICTIMS? JUST ASKING

  • Don't blame you, you are making good life out of you killing our sisters and mothers. Your victicms are still laguishing

  • Through reading this, playing video games that involved killing of others made me seriously uneasy.

  • Awesome book :) Read it for AP Human Geography.

  • @tollie123321 I'm reading it for 9th grade World Geography.

  • @curryelephant me too

  • Most saddest intense book I ever read.

I can't imagine that was happening.

  • @Imsno0zin1394 1. very sad and intense, I cried 2. for future reference (not being snippy) it's just most sad

  • I'm currently a producer from Universal studios making this movie, we're hoping for a 2013 release date!

  • I've read the book, it's so sad.

  • @lilgirlwitabigheart You're a pussy, this made me want to play MW2 and start using the RPG again!

  • @dy5fUnCt10n Excuse you? I'm not a pussy but I have one.

  • @dy5fUnCt10n loool your so addicted man, too bad I prestiged 5 mins ago, no more RPG

  • @dy5fUnCt10n

    sick fuck.

That's all that needs to be said on the matter.

I will not read anything you reply to me so there's no need to do so.

  • @BlockisticStudios LOL I c u reading this! GOML you non RPG noob!!!

  • im reading this book right now and i have to say its a shock about whats happening in darfur today very good book though

  • Favorite book of all time

  • obviously you've done a quick google search and read what you wanted to believe... instead of methodically studying it out.

  • go fuck yourself. this book has changed countless lives.

  • i love reading his book and my classmates are going to a movie trailer about the book

  • an amazing and eye opening account on the horrors of war told from a truly horrific standpoint. such a heartfelt story.

    well dont ishmael beah

    you have my complete support

  • Wow im reading this book in class im on page 169

  • wooh my teacher told me too research him i never knew he was from my country. also that civil war was like destroying the country its over but no on ehas recoveredluckly my mum came too london while she was pregnant (i was the baby) all her family died there. the civil war was so stupid

  • this is the best book ive ever read

  • Yes thanks you Taija16 I appreciate your comment. Many people don't know what happening in this world especially in Africa, if people know what happen in Africa during the war, then they wouldn't say something stupid to this guy.

  • i am in the process of reading this book right now and it is very sad, i cant believe this is happening in the world now, but this is an amazing book

  • Yeah very True, its a Awesome book though..

  • actually the war over where he lived is over

  • @Sadek360 i am bearly a preteen and i am already reading this book it is verry sad and some parts are not apropiate for kids i am on chapter 13

  • @Sadek360 try watching dark days

  • what the hell beah speaks the truth u havent experienced shit in your life so you wouldntt know

  • I read this book and it was amazing. I'm actually doing my a current issues portfolio on child soldiers for my AP class just because of this book.

  • i just finished reading his book and i must say its a fantastic read. i recommend it to all.

  • So don't bash his efforts. He's doing a good thing for the kids who are going through this now.

  • Regardless if it was truth or fiction, he's telling a tale of many murdered men, woman, and children. if you believe that his story is fiction, that's your opinion, but it's also an absolute insult to his friends, family, and himself. If i was trying to open the eyes of the blind and was accused of fraud i would believe there was no hope in this world. These hurtful comments prove that fact. This memoir was written to tell many people what had happend to him.

  • Where is the proof that he is a fraud?

  • I loved the book when I first read it. What a pity it turns out to have been almost completely a fabrication.Beah was a soldier, if at all, for two months, not three years; his account of a fight at a UNICEF camp never happened, and the entire tale is - like so many other "biographies" - a combination of outright fabrication and reporting the experiences of others as his own.Don't take my word for it:check it out yourself, online. He's a provable fraud, which is such a pity, because it's a good book

  • 1 Any one can put any thing on the internet

2 You have no clue that he did or didn't do anything for any time

3 he is at least trying to be a good man.

i hope you don't believe any thing you hear/say

  • Yes, I have a clue.I read the evidence.I did research. You didn't. So I have more of a right to comment than you do.IF you go and read the evidence, and then conclude differently, then you have a right to contradict me-WITH evidence.Otherwise what you say is just a lot of twaddle.

  • can u put some links and stuff cuz i kinda just read the book

  • YouTube doesn't allow links. Google "Ishmael Beah fraud". Also "Ishmael Beah Truth" and check the links, you'll find more than enough information. I'd recommend you check the articles on Beah posted on the site of the newspaper The Australian - the result of investigative journalism in Sierra Leone. Also google for"Kabba Williams",a genuine Sierra Leonean child soldier, conscripted at the age of 6,who fought for both sides in the war.Williams, incidentally, does not believe that Beah is genuine.

  • There are also articles possess clear evidence that PROVE that Beah is right in his account, so you should read both sides before making such a bold statement.

And another thing. The book is entitled MEMOIRS of a boy soldier. Since he was so young at the time, yes, his stories might have been embellished.

And, honestly, there's no point in trying to prove this book wrong, cause stories like this happen every day and the book is an amazing way to get the word out there.

    in other words, shut up.

  • Instead of bold-lettering a PROOF, can you at least make a simple attempt to descrine this proof? As far as the Memoirs go, a lie is a lie is a lie; and Beah is no longer a kid that he can be allowed to get away with what amounts to serious fraud.

In other words, put your money where your mouth is. Or shut up yourself.

  • Wonderful Book! It's sad to see that there is still ignorance in the world. U'll be in my prayers HHRB0664. It's obvious u did not get the message Mr. Beah was giving in his book, and if he did make money i say GOOD FOR HIM he deserves it.

    Have a Wonderful day!

  • It's sad to see such ignorance in the world. It's also sad to see such shameless audacity and blind faith. I know it's a wonderful book. I've read it. It's just not a very honest book. I do get the message that Beah was trying to convey, about perserverance, resiliance, justice, redemption, and identity. But many eyewitnesses, documents, and school assignments in Beah's own handwriting dispute his exagerated timetable, which he has refused to admit is wrong, even in the face of such evidence.

  • this is a wonderful book i don't think anyone have the right to judge him that is ignorance some people have no idea what's going on in other parts of the world

  • how stupid are u,listen to urself who ever u iz,atleast he made money,what did u make(nothing)

  • Just because I haven't made any money on a book deal and he has doesn't make him any better than me, nor does the fact that he has made lots of money justify his blatant lies and exagerations which he made simply to add excitement to his otherwise bland and repetative tale for the sole intent of creating a novel that would be more marketable and would make him more money.

  • Great book so far. I haven't reached that part yet though.

  • This is by far my favorite book. It's truly amazing.

  • i loved this book i feel so sorry for him :(

  • He will be in Columbia, MO tomorrow. I look forward to hearing his story and meeting him!

  • I know! I saw him!

    He was at my school!

  • Awesome and humble young man! I bought the book and he graciously autographed it!

  • words and reality...very different things...just the words on the pages of his book tells us his life story but to c that up close...I can't imagine how he feels. may his family rest in peace.

  • i'm reading too

    i love it

  • this book is amazing...it's one of the best book i've ever read...

  • I wish he came to my school also!.

Were readinng his book right now, and it's so addicting I don't want to put it down.I admire him, his strength;all that happended to him.

  • claimed? did you ever live in sierra leone during the war? no? then shut up you naive stupid person.

  • This must be the most brilliant comment on this whole board. I assume - going by your logic - that Sierra Leoneans who were child soldiers in that war, likke kkabba Willaims, and who dismiss beah's claims, are also naive stupid persons who never lived there/ i assume those miners, Beah's school teachers, and so on, are all lying?

    As I said, brilliant.

  • thats not what im saying at all. i'm saying don't comment on something you dont know about. leave the comments to those who know what theyre talking about and have legit evidence

  • LUCKY! I want him to come to my school.

    that would be sick!

  • im reading that book too.

it is a great book and Ishmael is extreme.

  • Ishmael Beah came and spoke at my school...he was such an amazing speaker, and I'm glad we got the opportunity.

  • I read his book its a good book

  • Awesome book it's like it was glued to my hands, All that i read was worth getting yelled at by my teachers. XD

  • why did your teachers yell at you?

    it was an amazing book

  • Because i'm in 8th grade and would read it when the teachers were talking to us. lol

  • i did the same thing

  • Oops....I meant Laura and Esther.

  • I would love to see a picture of Laura and Leslie; the ladies that helped you get through this trying time.

  • i have to read this book for my college reading sounds good so im gonna read it up

  • this book is the best book i have EVER READ IN MY LIFE!!! go but this book, its worth the $22 in exchange for a greater appreciatyion for the life you have(considering you are living in a place that allows you to log on the internet). And you will look at world issues from another point of view. Buy the book . i am 13 years old and it was a ssigned for smr reading,... the only summer reading book i liked, no loved reading.

  • i read the book in less than a day & reading for me is hard cause im not really into reading but this book forver changed me for the better. im so glad i got it from the store and i didnt borrow it from the library. i will always keep this with me.

  • i hated how he was so close to finding his family again and then the rebels attacked the villiage his family was in and killed them.just when he was so close. thats so sad..

  • OMG you just spoiled the ending for me!!!

  • sorrryyyy i wasnt thinking :(

  • lol its okay, i finished the book anyways. it was a good book

  • It is not even the ending!

  • yea, that part was sad. I kept expecting near the end that his family would turn up and they would be reunited but those hollywood happy endings don't always happen and that's the reality of the situation, in Beah's life. It's sad that he'll never know for probably as long as he lives, what exactly happened to his family.

  • he does say what happend to his familly...red the book again carefully...:))))))

  • It's fiction, so you don't really have to believe any of that. The town where he claims his family was killed is just 6km from his starting point of Mattru Jong, not 450km as his book pretends.

  • I dont think it does i rmbr that its said about 6 miles or so

  • THIS BOOK ROCKS! it is life changing and wil have you thinking for hours about your life and their lifes. it really makes you want to do something about it like go there and tell the rebels to stop. He's amazing.

  • well, if ur not a comb

  • I love this book.

It has literally changed my life.

I got it for my 13th birthday and I have probably read it 50 or 60 times. I've memorized parts of it.

    This books is incredible.

If you haven't read it, get off the computer and go BUY IT NOW!

  • hy i just bought this book like 2 days ago...amazing, cant put it down!

  • I read this chapter a few days ago

  • haha, what a coinsidence, i read that chapter today =) i'm still not done with the book. but i'm alrady in love with it. its the best book i've ever read =)

  • great book

    very powerful

  • i have fall in love with this book. Sometimes it made me cry. It is amazing how he was able to survive. And is also amazing how he can remeber everything. This book have have show me a different world.

  • yea i got to read it too

i got his autograph on my book, when i saw him on Bronx Institute

  • I read this book in a day, it was so compelling. I set apart a quiet space and just inhabited his words - they deserve such respect. I give thanks to this gentle man.

  • i had to read this song for my english class

  • I started reading it today in my english class its very good and i like the way he explains what happend in such great detail.

  • i just met him actually

    such an inspirational speaker

  • my dad bought me this book to read becoz he noes i like u noe real stories and stuff wen he gave it to me he said 'now this is a REAL story'

so i read it and he was riite u noe i love the way how tells everything in such detail so u can picture it in your head u noe he was so brave coz i wouldnt be able to stand a day in the forest by myself like he did let alone watch my friends die riite in front of me.....i think everybody in the world should get a chance to read this book.....

  • it sucks that his family died...I cried at that part...The book gets very emotional, and when Ngor Gasemu dies, its sad.

  • I don't necessarily agree with you there walaal. there are many people in this western world parading around with "soulja" and "war" on their t-shirts not knowing the true meaning of war. People like Ishmael Beah can change that a bit...by telling the real soldier and war stories. Half of these fake people can't survive a day in some places in Africa (e.g. Mogadishu)

  • waxaad sheegtay inaysan fiicneyn inaad dadka u sheegtid waxyaabahaad soo martay....laakiinse adigu waxaad sheegtay inaad xamar ka aheyd mooriyaan

hadaadan ku faraxsaneyn iska shib noqo walaal....or are you contradicting yourself???

Las Anod, Guriceel, and Mogadishu, SOMALIA

  • wow this book was amazing, i just finished it, and i gotta say you are an amzzing kid for accomplishing so much!!!!!

  • I just finished about 10 mins ago! AWESOME

  • I Fucking loved that book. It is so well written and compelling and disturbing with severe happiness and sever sadness. Mr. Beah, your book is truly world changing!

  • i love this book

its real and brings light to a situation that needs light brought to

it is hard to read at times but i like when he tells the funny stuff it is a relife like thing

  • graphic book..definitely an eye opener

  • i just finished it wow talk about MOVING! any comments plz visit kronicnightmare @ yahoo . com

  • I enjoyed the book but disagreed with the conclusion. War is tragic but it exists and always will. Just because one boy escaped doesn't mean others didn't continue to suffer. I am happy Ismael escaped though.

  • Outstanding book. Incredible young man.

  • Agreed. A book that everyone should read.

  • the book is excellent! some parts of it are really disturbing, but I'm glad I finished it.
