i watch this and am full of envy for everybody who was born early enough to grow up watching the good Nick shows:( even though growing up watching these shows really isn't a quality.......well anyway
Blue Man Group had nothing to do with the closing of Nickelodeon Studios. Nickelodeon had been gone for 18 months before any mention of BMG; FSN & Sun Sports was made.
Nickelodeon has no real reason to return. Actors want to stay in Los Angeles, so no regular programming can be produced in Orlando. That was one of the reasons why Nickelodeon decided to close the facility in the first place.
Nickelodeon closed the Studios, essentially, because it no longer had any use for the facility. Game shows were "out", scripted shows were being produced back in Los Angeles and kids stopped wanting to take the tour and visit the store. The place was dead and it made no sense for Nickelodeon to keep throwing money at it.
What was Nickelodeon supposed to do with it? Continuing to pump money into a complex that had no future as a viable production facility or anything else connected to Nickelodeon makes no sense.
There isn't enough demand for game shows for Nickelodeon (on anyone else for that matter) to consider such a move. The world of entertainment has changed considerably in the last 20 or so years. The conditions that made it feasible to operate a production studio complex outside of the Los Angeles area just aren't there. If they did exist, you would see the Entertainment Industry building facilities all over the place.
Just watching this would make me tear a little, I know it sounds kinda weird, but it's true. I never went to Nickelodeon Studios, but I always wanted to, ever since I was younger. Now that will never happen, unless a miracle happens.
Nickelodeon then: 50% creative,classic and golden shows. 50% Creative logos.
Nick now: 99% Pointless, terrible, and ridiculous shows that are ripped off from something good from old nickelodeon. 1% Half-decent shows. Who else thinks so?
First they stop rerunning their old programming, then they close NICKELODEON STUDIOS, but what they did to their logo is unforgivable. What were they thinking? Did they just do that just to say "forget the past"? Because i cannot forget about it now. That logo was all they had left, and they just threw it away. Their last good creation was Catscratch.
This kinda makes me sad. This was my child hood and part of who I was. These shows made me who I am. I know that sounds silly but I just had to visit the past.

@bewarethedecks no way, they closed 13 years to the day after they buried the time capsule? PLEASE tell me they didn't dig that up either. Seeing that shot of where the geyser was kinda hurt my heart. that was the one place that as a kid I always wanted to see, but never gotten the opportunity to....
Well, yes, the time capsule was dug up. Had Nickelodeon left it behind when it pulled out of Universal Studios, the capsule would have been considered abandoned property and Universal could have dug it up and thrown it away during renovations to the facility.
But.....Nickelodeon found the time capsule a new home....the near-by Nickelodeon Suites Resort (the Nick Hotel) in Orlando FL.
@bewarethedecks, ok! So, if the actors did not want to leave LA & go to Orland then why not build another nick studioes at Univeral Hollywood that means they still work for Nick & stay in LA. I heard the NickToons studio is in LA, & they film ICarly & other shows on the Paramount Lot.
Because there was no need for Nick to build another large general purpose complex. Keep in mind that the Orlando facility was designed to primarily stage game shows. Nickelodeon purchased 2 smaller existing facilities in Southern California to support other types of programs and rents local studio space for special projects:
1) Nickelodeon Animation Studios (Cartoons)
2) Nick on Sunset (Scripted, variety and some specials).
3) Hollywood Center Studios [rental] (BrainSurge)
I feel fortunTe that as a kid, I got to go to Nick studios several times. I was in the audience for a taping of the original Marc Summers Double Dare and Clarissa Explains it all. I got slimed. I Sling shotted rubber chickens into a giant pair of pants during the studios tour. I sat on the orange couch. It was amaZing growing up with the shows and memories of what Nick used to be. This video seriously made me cry and long to be a child in the early to mid 90s again.
No....Blue Man Group is only 1 of the organizations that now uses the facility. FSN and Sun Sports also use parts of the building for their operations while other parts are (or were) used as storage and a reception/function area.
the old shows was freaking awesome but everyone always forgets one of there best shows was ren & stimpy best show ever and it was going down hill from there after they took that show off the air...
There Bightches!, I was soooo, happy, we were planning to leave to go to universle on June 2005, I was only happy because I was gonna see Nick studios, but, they closed it! Just to make me SAD!, It's just not fair!, all you people are just making it sadder for me! :(
Viacom is clearly not aware how much of a goldmine these shows would be for they're ratings... i would be 80 years old and still watch all the 90s nick shows... They were just that good
You know ur a 90s (or late 90s like me) kid when most of the nicks shows were all that, kenan and kel, double dare 2000, etc had at the end of the credits where it says that each show was performed infront of a live studio audience in nickelodeon studios in orlando florida
i've been to universal theme park (where universal studios is), and i don't even think i got to even GO there! so sad, soooooo sad.... rip old nickelodeon....
i think you can see the old shows if you buy a cable box. Being a 90's kid rules, sad what tv has turned too now. But I'm glad for a great childhood. Doug, Rugrats, Kenan &Kel, All That, Ginger, Rocket Power, Hey Arnonld, Fox Kids, Abc Kids and also the lenendary and Iconic Toonami, For Life!!!
I'm happy I got to go there once before it closed. When I got there it gave me goosebumps and a happy feeling. Its really sad its all gone it really is
Good news! This fall, nickelodeon plans to start re-airing all of their old shows due to popular demand! I'm so excited to see all the good stuff return! :D
@Tox1cTac0 Just google "Nickelodeon to air 90's programming" There are plenty of results. They plan to start by airing them late at night to see how many people will actually watch them. and if successful they will move the time slot to earlier in the day.
Nickelodeon is not coming back to Universal Orlando, maybe just maybe if they get more of a solid budget for there production they maybe just maybe may come back. I doubt it. More celebrities are in Hollywood, Ca than in Orlando, Fl. Orlando, FL just don't have a fan base for child stars like Hollywood, Ca...
Nickelodeon had good intentions when it decided to build the complex in Orlando, but the end result was a facility that had no future once interest in game shows fizzled.
One of the reasons actors refused to move to Orlando is that....outside of Nickelodeon Studios....there are no major studio facilities there. Basically it was Nickelodeon or nothing...so....actors chose to stay put....or....they quickly moved back to Los Angeles once their work @ the Studios was done.
Notice that the movie was aired during the "Nick @ Nite" block, when most of Nickelodeon's core viewers (young kids) are usually in bed.
Again....today's kids are different than "90's Kids" and Nickelodeon is indicating this by airing programs....that do not appeal to today's kids....outside of the hours when they would normally be watching television.
Nickelodeon & Disney Channel do "Get The Picture". Sadly....some "90's Kids" don't.
And as we all know, if you're watching Nick @ Nite, you're either bored out of your wits, can't get to sleep or are just to drunk to know what you're watching.
And I agree with you, Nickelodeon believes that because 90's kids are different than the kids of today, their interests are different. But they obviously aren't.
These tributes to Nickelodeon Studios as well as videos that cover the final day of Nick GaS are full of remarks posted by people who are aged 20+ complaining about the shows on Nickelodeon.
Yet the current shows continue to thrive. If there were no viewers, the shows would be yanked.
Nickelodeon is a kid's network. It airs programs that appeal to kids....not young adults...age 20+... who are trying to hold on to their childhoods.
My younger sister was not a 90's kid, she is not 20+ and she LOVES Hey Arnold, Rugrats etc. and HATES iCrappy and a Big Time Crap and whatever else is on today.
Of course everyone is different. Not every single tween is going to like those shows.. (lol!!!!)
But the overwhelming/vast majority of them do and this is reflected by the Nielsen Ratings as well as the types of shows that Nickelodeon (and Disney Channel for that matter) offers to their viewers.
Shows that generate no interest among viewers get yanked. Shows that generate good ratings get renewed. If nobody cared about iCarly & Big Time....Nick would pull them.
The Rugrats Movie is coming on Nickelodeon at 7:00 tonight.Everyone has to watch that movie,because this will be proof that the old shows are better than the new shows and Nickelodeon will consider bringing the old shows back.
Nickelodeon's lineup reflects the types of shows that its target audience (pre-teens and younger) wants to see.
If the network started showing programs that didn't interest that demographic, viewers would change channels. Without viewers, companies wouldn't advertise. No advertisements mean no revenue. No revenue (and viewers) means no Nickelodeon.
Yes,, in most instances, the 18->49 demographic is highly sought after by advertisers....but....Nickelodeon & Disney Channel are kids networks. They are not targeting that age range, and companies that do business with the networks realize that fact. Commercials for toys, games & dolls will be seen much more often than commercials for automobiles and other things of interest to an older/more mature audience.
Today's kids have different tastes in TV programs than "90's Kids" did. Nickelodeon (and Disney Channel) are kids networks and are broadcasting shows that appeal to today's kids, not people in their 20's and older.
Nickelodeon Studios closed primarily because of its location and the lack of demand for game shows.
Blue Man Group had nothing to do with the closure. Yet people continue to dump on them for something that isn't their fault.
Fuck man. I had no idea. Oh well. I suppose it's for the better. I don't want the shit they have on Nick today disgracing the studio that represented Nickelodeon at it's peak.
A time capsule buried by the network in 1992 in front of Sound stage 18 was removed in April 2005 and was replaced with concrete. The time capsule contained items deemed important to the children of 1992 as voted upon by Nickelodeon viewers, including a new Nintendo Game Boy, an issue of Nickelodeon Magazine, a Home Alone VHS tape, clips of Nickelodeon station IDs and various other toys. The time capsule was scheduled to be opened on April 30, 2042, 50 years after
I was a big fan of nickelodeon too but it was definitely a product of the 90's., I think thats the main reason it lost its guests. It could make a comeback someday (with a lot of money and a little luck) but the nickelodeon we knew is gone.
Keep in mind that Nickelodeon....along with Disney Channel....and kids' networks. They broadcast shows that are designed to appeal to people who are in their early teens and younger. They really are not looking to attract viewers who are 20 and older (90's Kids for instance) because that age group is now outside the networks' demographic.
Nickelodeon has several "sister" networks that offer programs for viewers of all ages. An internal wall shown during Josh Yawn's (cmonfwank) tribute video shows the logos of the networks.
time change for bad!! i mean now everything in this world is a bussiness to make money! no talent, no effort in doing something better just throwing stupid shows with no meaning at all, and making some random kids famous to get money out of them!! where is the creativity, the message in the cartoons, all is gone to make money!!! i really missed all this shows, im not even a kid im 18 years old, im proud of growing up in the 90s,so sad!!!
Nickelodeon was good in the old day but in my opinon nickelodeon start went down hill after spongebob when Nickelodeon say fuck the people who like the old show were gonig to make carppy live action show with drama and milk the hell out of spongebob to rerun so many time every week yeach that bullshit I want the old show back
The complex wasn't torn down. The buildings, after sitting unused for about 18 months, underwent some renovations and are now the home for FSN, Blue Man Group's Orlando troupe and Sun Sports.
The time capsule was moved to the Nickelodeon Suites Resort (the Nick Hotel) in Orlando.
:( I remember when spongebob and invader zim first aired on TV... Why do you ruin things nick... we want shows that we have in our blood, not shows that were made for teens. Seriously... Thats why they made Teenick... Nickelodeon is supposed to be all cartoons. and nicktoons shouldnt even exist. For reals.
It wasn't torn down. The insides underwent some renovations, the paint on the outside was changed and now the complex is home to Sun Sports, Blue Man Group and FSN. There are some bits of Nickelodeon still visible on the inside of the buildings.
through youtube vids and dvds and it saddens me that none of us really buy the dvds why is that?? lets keep this classic nicktoons and classic nick shows and the orange splat and the old nick bumpers safe from extension...jus saying
i hope that all of you got to go to nick studios at least once, as a kid it was lke goin to say el derado i mean it was AWSOME pictures of rugrats and doug everywhere props from all that and figure it out stage set ups and of course seeing live action doug...its so sad watching this is like watching someones death and you know who that is....its all of us its our souls! cuz we know our kid shows are dead and on only to be rememberd..
I remembered "Are You Afraid Of The Dark?" It is a show about scary stories. I missed that show soooo much. Along with the Secret World of Alex Mack, Kenan and Kel, Rugrats, Doug, Rocko's Modern Life, and Clarissa Explains it all.
I went their alot before 2005 then i heard it was closing went to the final day and said goodbye to nick gas and all the other shows ill always love them
I didnt know about the nick´s time capsule, this capsule still exsists in this moments, I hope so, this capsule are going to be open when i am 5o years old, the same age of my mom
you forgot hey dude, and you cant do that on teevision! those show were pretty cool, and double dare, now the only game show they have is that stupid brainsurge, and 1 person might get slimed, back in the day, everyone used to get slimed!!! nickelodeon get your shit together!!!

Sadly....some "90's Kids" don't.
bewarethedecks 1 year ago
@bewarethedecks
SuperKaitie333 1 year ago
@SuperKaitie333
They are different.
It airs programs that appeal to kids....not young adults...age 20+... who are trying to hold on to their childhoods.
bewarethedecks 1 year ago
@bewarethedecks
Sorry, I misunderstood you xP
But I do think you're wrong anyways.
My younger sister was not a 90's kid, she is not 20+ and she LOVES Hey Arnold, Rugrats etc. and HATES iCrappy and a Big Time Crap and whatever else is on today.
SuperKaitie333 1 year ago
@SuperKaitie333
If nobody cared about iCarly & Big Time....Nick would pull them.
bewarethedecks 1 year ago
EVERYONE LISTEN UP!
The Rugrats Movie is coming on Nickelodeon at 7:00 tonight.Everyone has to watch that movie,because this will be proof that the old shows are better than the new shows and Nickelodeon will consider bringing the old shows back.

Nickelodeon just gave it's viewers the type of shows they wanted but know they only seem to appeal to the older audience.
naomima110 1 year ago
@naomima110
Actually the shows are geared towards tweens and younger. Teen Nick is (in theory) aimed at teens. Nick at Night would appeal to older people.

@bewarethedecks thats true very true.

Nickelodeon's lineup reflects the types of shows that its target audience (pre-teens and younger) wants to see.
If the network started showing programs that didn't interest that demographic, viewers would change channels. Without viewers, companies wouldn't advertise. No advertisements mean no revenue. No revenue (and viewers) means no Nickelodeon.
bewarethedecks 1 year ago
@bewarethedecks
but the original generation of Nick kids are in the 18-49 demographic, the age most advertisers really care about
nomadcowatbk 1 month ago
@nomadcowatbk

7 DISLIKES ARE U KIDDING ME. THOSE 7 KIDS WERE BORN IN1993 1976-1991 ARE THE LUCKY KIDS.
therealoffeath 1 year ago
Nickelodeon focuses on early teens and younger. Shows like iCarly are geared towards them because Nickelodeon (and Disney Channel) are kid's networks.
TeenNick is where Nickelodeon....in theory....airs programs that appeal to teenagers.
bewarethedecks 1 year ago
nickelodeon only focuses on the older viewers like teenagers and the old nickelodeon used to focus on ALL it's viewers like kids AND teenagers.
naomima110 1 year ago
Today's kids have different tastes in TV programs than "90's Kids" did. Nickelodeon (and Disney Channel) are kids networks and are broadcasting shows that appeal to today's kids, not people in their 20's and older.
Nickelodeon Studios closed primarily because of its location and the lack of demand for game shows.
Blue Man Group had nothing to do with the closure. Yet people continue to dump on them for something that isn't their fault.
The time capsule was moved to the Nick Hotel.
bewarethedecks 1 year ago
Fuck man. I had no idea. Oh well. I suppose it's for the better. I don't want the shit they have on Nick today disgracing the studio that represented Nickelodeon at it's peak.
RKO36 1 year ago
That was the ONLY piece of childhood i had left. And what happens? IT GETS REPLACED BY A STUPID BLUE MAN GROUP!!!!!!!!!
chellemo65 1 year ago
sigh just read on wiki

They really are not looking to attract viewers who are 20 and older (90's Kids for instance) because that age group is now outside the networks' demographic.
bewarethedecks 1 year ago
@bewarethedecks
but they're now in the 18-49 demographic, the most desirable demographic
nomadcowatbk 1 month ago
@nomadcowatbk
Thus that group of people have aged out of Nick & Disney's target audience, and the networks have changed their focus towards the kids of today.
bewarethedecks 1 month ago
@bewarethedecks
but they could start a channel could target the first generation of nick viewers who now have jobs and money
nomadcowatbk 1 month ago
@nomadcowatbk
Nickelodeon has several "sister" networks that offer programs for viewers of all ages. An internal wall shown during Josh Yawn's (cmonfwank) tribute video shows the logos of the networks.

The buildings haven't been demolished. They're still there. They were remodeled so other organizations could use the inside space for other purposes.
Despite being revamped, there are hints of the buildings' past still visible to people who visit or work there.

Because the top plates have been changed, it looks different than it did when it was outside Nickelodeon Studios.
