After seeing and, sadly, hearing George Takei perform "On the Road Again" recently, I think I will never again make fun of Shatner. By comparison, the Shat is Elvis! (In reality, he's terrible, but he admits it! That's the fun of Shatner: he knows himself and his qualities and has fun anyway.) Check out "Common People" if you haven't already; it's the only Shat song I actually enjoy listening to.

Yes, it shows how me-oriented everyone was in the 1970's that the audience didn't laugh out loud. Though Shatner now claims performances like this were done in fun, it sure looks like he really thinks he's being profound- which makes it twice as funny.
