  • @williamcheah she won three times the most prestigious award for an singer that you can get in japan, even throught she is an chinese, and if you know, japanese don't quite like chinese ppl, so is really hard to an chinese do anything well in japanese media, even less gettin to where she got...

  • @williamcheah Because sha was overwhelmed for having won 3 years in the row the best award for an artist in Japan......none Japanes artist ever won this prestigious award 3 years in the row......and she is Chinese, she had the sweeter and touching voice we ever had.....

By the way she also sing beautifully songs in Malay/Indonesian language....

  • Wonderful song and beautiful Teresa Teng...she is the one and only....what a great diva...TT forever.

  • is she crying while singing ?

  • @sulasno ---Yes, she was crying when she sang this song apparently. Being a professional vocalist, I can tell you I've been moved to tears from emotion while singing a song. She obviously was singing straight from the heart during this performance. She sang it beautifully considering she was singing through tears. Perhaps she was thinking of a current or past lover when singing. In any case, she is genuine.

  • @CahillandDelene yes!.....TT was overwhelmed for winning three years in the row the most prestigious award for a singer in Japan....a country where there are so many first class singers.....her great effort and professionalism got her to the culpit of the world.....Bles you TT forever!

  • Teresa Teng is simply great! This was the very first Teresa Teng song that I have memorized when I was a kid, though I hardly knew the meaning then. I'll never get tired of singing this song, and will always remind me of her sweet and exceptional voice. Thank you for the music, Teresa Teng!

  • Don't get too discouraged. She will be recognized by western world gradually.

At meantime, her "Smoke gets in your eyes" has bee hitted over 100,000 times.

Her "Bridge over the troubled water" has been hitted over 60,000 times. You may check on Youtube by yourself.

  • she was (and still is!) so famous!!! i feel so sad that she wasn't well known in western world!! i think the whole world would have loved her (and would still love her), not only asia!!

  • aaaaaaaaaaa i'am crying listen her voice... wtf very soft lik a crystal!

  • I'm a born early generation but even so, Teresa Teng influence my life.

  • my mom is a big fan of hers. only started listening to her song back in 2000.. but love her songs ever since!! she's truly a diva!

  • she passed away in 1995. I am so sad, this was my favorite song by her!

  • she passed away at a relatively young age, i think. My mom is from her generation and apparently a huge fan back then. She was always telling me about Teresa Teng when I was a kid, but I never really quite understand.. until now.

  • It ends only because it is thought, "What a happy tears it is!" if she is alive.

  • why is she crying there?

  • Teresa won many music awards in Japan and she won the Grand Prix 3 years in a row! She was very emotional upon winning so therefore the tears when she had to sing the winning song.

From wikipedia: * The Grand Prix for「つぐない」(Tsugunai) in 1984:「愛人」(Aijin) in 1985; and「時の流れに身をまかせ」(Toki no Nagare ni Mi o Makase) in 1986. This was the first time anyone had won the Grand Prix three years in a row.

  • oh, i see... so, the tears are tears of happyness... wo, she's so a famous person... i'm glad that i found her by accident on youtbe... otherwise i wouldn't know her... does anyone know, was she also famous in europe? or didn't european know her?

  • Probably only the Chinese people in Europe knew of her. She was HUGE in Japan and elsewhere in Asia. (read up on her in wikipedia or google her name ... you will find out a lot of info about her).

  • Unfortunately she passed away, she is a national treasure for China. There is a saying in Chinese "Where there is Teresa Teng's music there is Chinese people there". She is probably one of the rare performers to make it big in China, HK, Taiwan and Japan.

  • on this video she seems to be a bit older as in the other ones... but she still looks so beautiful and her voice is as beautiful as in older songs!!! in my otpion, its the best song from her!!

  • how good is her japanese ?

  • My heart breaks when i saw her crying while singing the song. With all the feelings she is so wonderful singer..From canada with love

  • oh my god, i almost start to cry if i see her cry... this is so beautiful!! i wish i would born before she died that i would be able to go on a concert from her!!

  • RIP TERESA TENG... one of my best singer when I was very young! Loved her dearly!

  • 真ㄉ是太感動了!

    ;@@;

  • John, please tell me why she is crying - it breaks my heart.

  • This was the third consecutive year that she won the Usen most-requested song award. Her tears are tears of gratitude, happiness, and perhaps also sorrow for the long hard climb she had while becoming successful in Japan. Japan was (is?) a difficult market for non-Japanese, and to succeed there was a big deal. She had a hit there in 1974 with "Airport", but her followups were less successful. Her big comeback was with "Tsugunai" in '84, "Aijin" in '85, and this song in '86.

  • @cheerfulhamster I don't know why she had to choose Japan as a place to develp her singing career, everybody knows Japan does not welcome outsiders, not to mention in 1970s, she had been very well-known in Asia, I am just wondering why she could not give more time for herself, to have a family of her own, to have a husband and to have a few of her own children, just live a relatively normal life on one hand but to continue to be a singer, a not too famous singer...maybe she will not die alone.

  • @ilovemovie1968 ask all superstars, why they do not make a normal life. TT was truly a superstar, a slave o her own success. Some bad luck, the politics across the Taiwan strait, Japan was by no means bad to her career. Only people like Bruce Lee may match TT fame all over Asia.

  • @ilovemovie1968

You shall know the reason if you think about following questions.

    1. Was her English sufficient as a singer in US? (though Judy Ongg, Agnes Chan, etc became top star in Japan)

    2. Could she get chances to meet with major composers in US? (though she got lots of original songs in Japan)

    3. Which market was the largest in Asia? (She was not known in Japan before coming and CD is not bought but only copied in Chinese market)

  • @KittieGeorge: I did not know all these facts. But TT Airport in 1974, Sugunai, Aijin and Tokino nagare nimiwo makase from 1984 to 1986 gave her fame all over Japan. TT was a Taiwanese girl with a gift for singing.

  • @KittieGeorge: I did not know all these facts. But TT Airport in 1974, Sugunai, Aijin and Tokino nagare nimiwo makase from 1984 to 1986 gave her fame all over Japan. TT was a Taiwanese girl with a gift for singing. If you are in Asia you try to get the most of the markets in Hong Kong, Japan, China, Malasia, Indonesia, Thailandia and so forth. TT did just that and more.

  • @KittieGeorge: She was so gifted and prolific that singing in English was not a big deal for her. Her pesonal life was, however, a pity. Bad choices, bad luck surrounded her private life.

  • i love this song so much

  • beautiful voice :'(

one of the best singers ever.

  • amazing 完璧

  • The best song. Ever !!

  • She was crying cause (if my memory can recall) she was awared the best female singer for the 3rd running year.

  • she's actually an emotional person by nature..

  • why she is crying?

  • That is a wrong answer!! .....She was overwhelmingly emotional to be awarded again as the best singer in that year. She was awarded three years in the roll from 1984 to 1986.

  • Byakkotai, the Chinese government in fact DID accept her music. Are you mad because Japan is failing at denying The second sino-japanese war ever happened?

  • Political tension between Taiwan and China continued; her music as well as others from Hong Kong were banned for several years in Mainland China in the early 1980s for being too "bourgeois from Wikipedia. I thought the government would have a hand in that ?

Why bring up that war ? I'm not even Japanese. You pulled that out of your ass or what ?

  • abuuuuuuu..el audio,..sta buenazoo..linda Teresa teng!!!!!!!!!!!!!! po ellos aunq mal paguen !! jaja

  • To InZyLogic, Owner46 and andrew3656 - please take your debate to private messages. I deleted your thread.

  • Which year did she perform this?

  • people cry coz they have felling...humann n animal!!!

  • Why was she crying?

  • hits101 she cried coz she just won the most prestigious musical award in Japan.

  • She was overwhelmed!! That was the third year in the roll to win that prestigious musical award, from 1984 to 1986.

  • you're a legend...it's been a long time, when i first heard your song i never thought you were long time gone. I am pretty sure that I am not your youngest fan anymore coz the charm of your voice still enchants a lot of people(younger than I of course) around the globe up to now... REST IN PEACE...WO AI NI...

  • Teresa Teng is my lover~~~I love her forever!

  • Translation of what the announcer said:

Teresa's singing has the warmth that blankets the hearts of the listeners. Each and every 10-yen coin that embodied the ardent desire of her fans to hear her songs led to this Grand Prix. Congratulations on winning the All Japan Cable Radio Awards for three years in a row. "Toki no Nagare ni Mi o Makase" Teresa Teng!

(It costs 10 yen -- about 10 U.S. cents -- for a cable radio listerner to hear one song.)

  • This is to answer the oft-asked question, Why is Teresa crying? (This is a comment I wrote here about 9 months ago.):

It was not so much what the announcer said that made her cry, as the fact that she just heard, only minutes earlier, that she had won the prestigeous award again. Thus, she had already been in tears when the M.C. made the following introductory announcement:

  • i looked her up on wikipedia and she died at an age of 42? o.o that's rly young...

  • why was she crying btw?

  • This crip is one Sheen of the award ceremony. She sheds tears of her emotions.becouse she won the grand prix in succession for three years.

  • Oh, when I see your tears, Teresa, I can't control mine... Why I love so much?

  • The greatest voice of all time, so pure, so angelic, so amazing...reached out to so many around the world... no one has ever come close...sniff..sniff..How we missed her!!
