I would maybe want to try a animation of this based on the pictures, if I may for you ofcurse? I have just begone with animation so I will not do it this year. But I am a fan of Disney and I am gonna try animate Jimmeny, Ludvig Von Drake, Mickey and a lot more later, but this is for starters as training.
@Ahturos That'd be nice! I've been wanting to do it myself for a long time, but I can't without the proper computer program. Well, as long as you could show a link or something of my credit, I'd love to see it.
Seems that just a few lines mean so much but Picasso worked that way too, All I can say is that with so little there is a fortune, maybe it sounds cruel that way but it is reality. But I would never sell Wollie's drawing whatever I was asked for it
@ukenutcase Same here. Glen's pic of John Silver is far too valuable to me signed or not. He did it too beautifully just as he did in the movie. I love every character work he did, but John Silver is his best work ever. . . in my opinion that is.
I had the pleasure of meeting Wolfgang Reitherman who animated the whale sequence in Pinnochio and the mirror in Snow White. I asked him to draw me a Jiminy Cricket when he visited Manchester(UK) in 1981 when he came as director to promote The Fox and the Hound (Tod and Toby). I still have Jiminy. Woolie was one of the Disney legends as was Ward. Sadly Woolie died in a car accident in 1985
@ukenutcase Ah, all of the nine old men were amazing. God bless their souls.
My idol is Glen Keane. One of my dreams is to work for him or have him teach me better ways of drawing. My best friend met him a few years ago at Disney world and had him draw a picture for me of my favorite character of all time that he animated, John Silver. When he finished, he ALMOST signed it, but erased his name when he knew that this drawing would be very valuable. It now hangs in my room.
Hmm. . . that song isn't in the disc I have of his.
Eh, I like to think of him singing some of his songs, and since the ukelele is heard in the background (since Cliff played it) I like to think of Stitch sitting next to him strumming the ukelele. ^_^
This isn't traced. If it was it wouldn't have the guide lines for the shape of his body and the placement of his facial features. See that cross between his eyes in some pictures? That's what I mean.
I can't wait for it all to get finalized! love your work, and those haters out there should knock it off it's not like you're claiming it entirely as your own, you're paying appropriate credit to the original creators, and you're not trying to sell it...
Anyways sorry that a lot of these comments you get on your vids and drawings sound like broken records... KEEP IT UP!!
Looks interesting, though I would suggest his earlier version, when he plays the ukulele on it-I'd like to see Jiminy playing uke like his daddy, Cliff "Ukulele Ike" Edwards! Be a nice juxtaposition of the two!
I have his album and I know what you mean. He's great at the ukulele, but the album doesn't have that version. Of course, every time I listen to his stuff with his ukulele in it, I always think of Jiminy singing them and with Stitch in the background playing the ukulele. LOL.
JohnSilverfan01, just ignore them, they are just jealous. I think it looks FANTASTIC! i love your art work, and a question for those out there, who think she traced it, the pose at .21..its a famous pose from the movie singing in the rain, so explain how she would trace that..O_o there is no evidence for her tracing them..she wants to be an animator..so hense she knows how to draw. =)
Well, all those losers think that the best of evidence in on ED. But when you look carefully at picture I drew against the original, the lines don't line up very well. That just proves that they're not traced. Just eyballed. But these pictures of Jiminy, I just looked at his famous picture of him floating down with his umbrella and drew all of these on my own.
Not lining up doesn't prove that it's not traced - just modified. I remember tracing myself when I was a kid and obviously most of my copies didn't line up, because I was deliberately changing it in order to achieve the modicum of myself in it.
I'm not at all in all this 'traced!mode' I see from time to time here or there, but I can't ignore the absurdity of the statement that something isn't traced because it doesn't line up. It's children talk. It won't convince anyone.
It seems that you didn't read well what I've written. I simply said that none of people accusing you of tracing would be convinced with an explanation that it isn't traced, because it doesn't line up.
AND - even if I was one of those determined people who'd like to devote their time to find what is traced and what's not (and I'm not), I'm not enough Disney enthusiast, to know every single rendering of Jiminy Disney artists from around the world created for all these years.
If I traced it, I think that there would be a bunch of pictures somewhere of where I got these poses from, but you know what there isn't because I drew these from my mind. Did you ever think of that?
Well, have you ever seen the gallery of 17, YES, 17, traced drawings in your ED article? Call it what you want--'lies' or 'slander'--but it's plain evidence. Tracing or 'referencing', the artwork is unoriginal and to claim it as your own is absurd. Not saying this video is, but many of your drawings are. nismura has a point.
Just because ED says so doesn't mean it's true. Those pictures they have are not traced and I never did claim that they were my original pieces. I always gave credit to the original. Besides, ED made it look like I traced by putting the pictures side by side making it look like they were the same size. Believe me, they were not at all the same size when I drew them. And if you can go through my gallery and look at any of my newer ones, you won't find any copies.
Thing is that bland 'referencing' or 'eyeballing' is not a favorable thing to do too. Not if you're not copying Caravaggio for learning purposes, for example.
Listen - even the greatest of artists like Da Vinci were 'accused' for "tracing" (search for e.g. Hockney-Falco thesis). The thing is that good art can defend itself, either by great skill or artist's interpretation.
It's not that your art was 'traced', but that it's more of a copy rather than original interpretation of Disney's style.
Like I said, while referencing is technically not tracing, it is taking someone else's artwork and claiming it as your own. Even if you gave credit, you put the pictures on your PERSONAL art website. I believe the ED gallery because it is evidence right before my eyes.
And I don't understand what this has to do with this piece. Nothing on this is copied. Just the poses of Gene Kelly, but I had nothing to look at from him. They were from the top of my head since I've watched that routine several times.
It's not about opinion though...it's about fact. A number of her images juxtaposed with frames from Disney movies are very close. The ED page could do nothing but praise her, but those images would still show that she either traced or copied (what she calls "referencing") them.
Very close, but eyeballed rather than traced. Many artists do that, including those with superior skills. Of course they ususally do that on a very different level.
What I disagree with SF-01 is that she stops on eyeballing (including Disney style, not just certain images) rather than going forward, but I will not criticize her for sole reason of using references, no matter how blatant they are. It definitely shows that she's got enough skill to copy it.
This is pretty good work. I like seeing a sketchy quality to your work, it's a lot like a Disney animator. I'd like to see more stuff drawn like this out of you, and I'd like to see this sequence done someday. It's amazing to see your work unblemished by photoshop, it actually looks better.
I, RyougaLolakie, from DeviantArt and a huge fan of Jiminy Cricket, LOVED this marvelous layout. What can I say? Awesome work! You'd made my day! ^_________^
