  • 5:37 WHO THE FUCK ARE YOU LOOKIG AT?

  • The Who's last great album.

  • so Keith wasn't so ill ??

  • THIS IS MORE THAN JUST MUSIC, ITS PURE ARTISTRY!!!!

  • EPIC ROCK OPERA, BETTER AND DEEPER THAN TOMMY!!!!!

  • moon, daltry, entwisle, townsend..four distinct personalities...four distinctt talents

the great drum bass- counterpoint on quadraphenia entwisle's french horn...daltries intense vocals, townsends raw personal lyrics

Their music came from the heart...today's music comes from the rectum

  • @gsixtysix kinda reductive of modern music as a whole don't you think? i feel bad for you if you're listening to FM radio going "Dey dont make em like dey used to!" all day.

  • Have all the L.A. fagots listen to this, and they will come back to the reality of Life!

  • The bands peak artistically. It's downhill after Quad.

  • @zbgb68 your facts are not completely accurate. it is true that Townshend and Entwistle developed Marshall stacks early on with Jim Marshall. Townshend was using HiWatts when the Who entered the Guinness Book of Records as the world's loudest concert, at over 120 dBs on May 31, 1976 which was listed for more than ten years. "In 1973 the Hiwatt DR103W model was created, which has been the central piece of equipment around which Townshend's various rigs were built for the next thirty years.'"

  • rog sounds great!

  • I wanna go back I WANNA GO BACK...Jim Jim wake up!

  • totaly agree with bobshark123

  • totaly agree with bobshark123

  • Keith looks tired and 'out of it' etc because not long after this he collapsed. But we all know THAT story, right.

  • Saw them on this tour in NYC. My ears haven't been the same since.

  • @mikestrat56 That's because Pete had Marshall Amps create a setting of 11 on the 1 to 10 Volume Knob Scale {allegedly} just for The Who to break the Guinness Book of World Records "Loudest Rock and Roll Band on Earth" Title. Which they held for years until Metallica unfairly beat it using modern technology, not true Rock and Fuckin' Roll blood, guts and Keith Moon sweat!

  • 7:37 Keith looks positively out of it! ;o)

  • @Amsterdam74yeah ... he took elephant or horse tranquilizers before going out on stage I think

  • unbelievable

  • keith looks tired !!

  • 4 dislikes and must be the quality of the video, cuz this is gold!

  • Oh My God! As music this probably sounds a bit poor to non-subscribers, but as musical history this is effin' diamond! Where did you find this Palmettopny? I've never seen this in my life!

  • God, this is truly an amazing song. The more and more I listen to Qudrophenia, the more I wonder why it's songs never became as popular as Who are You and Won't Get Fooled Again

  • @cory640 oops, accidentally double-posted...

  • @cory640 I think its too deep for people or something. They like anthems that scream Teen-age wasteland, not deep, heavy stuff like Quad. Check out my music in my favs, its called "and my love, antifashion" tell me if you like it. I think who fans might enjoy it???????maybe not

  • 5:40

    gotta love John...

  • Wow, Roger was dead on the album vocals here, great performance, I'm sure this recording does it no justice. I've been a Who fan for as long as I can remember, and this song is one of my all time favorites, just because it exemplifies evrything each member is and does well.

  • ...and the rest of the crew is also doing a good job....

  • moon/entwistle !

  • Iwas at that concert

  • was the kiid who played for them after keith passed out good??

  • Why is your name 'Brandon' then?

    HIs name was Scot.

  • Hey man you should upload in rapidshare or something like that, the whole concert.

  • 9:00 pete is checking out mr. moon;s ;condition. he had good reason...keith would pass out in the next few minutes from an accidental o.d. and scott halpin would get his 15 minutes.

  • well said and thanks for that bit of info.

  • literally!

  • this is my fav album of *all* time!! So cool to see this performance.

  • Quadropenia is the best album ever made.

  • You haven't seen the photo album I made of my family trip to Yosemite last year, then. My mother in law got kinda sick, but, apart from that, everyone had a ball. Quadrophenia's good too, by the way.

  • nobody told her to eat that dried bear meat the indian mystic fed her...

  • You can't talk that woman out of anything.

  • @bobshark123 You are correct Bob!

  • @bobshark123 You are correct! The BEST ALBUM EVER! EVER! EVER!

  • @bobshark123 totally agree dude

  • Comment removed

  • @bobshark123 How bout' Who's next?

  • @bobshark123 Completely True.

  • favorite band of all time, however all the canned music on this "live"version is disappointig.Live at Leeds shreds this!!

  • Quadrophenia is an extremely difficult album to recreate live; this is why many backing tracks were needed.

  • and why The Who never toured it to the same extent or success as Tommy. The machines that played the tracks broke down and jammed so reguarly, and they meant there was no room for the band to improvise a la Live at Leeds. I think the guy who's job it was to operate/maintain the tape machines got a guitar thrown at him by Pete when the machine broke down one time

  • ha the other night i got into a brawl while i was hammered knocked some prick out who thought he could push around me and my boys. one punch ko. then of course his pussy wankster friends all jumped in and started smashing my face. me and my buds had to fight them off. real shit show. one guy really sucker punched me in the eye and my pants got ripped up. the whole incident makes me identify with this song and the rest of the album more. im 18 and this is album in alotta ways describes my life

  • me too this album has got me through some hard times its great

  • ballroot

  • by reading this you should have your ass kicked hourly, maybe you will hang around some people with a little class in the future,me and my boys, grow up punk,or end up dead

  • hey fuck you man you dont know me. were all in uni now. some of my friends got scholarships. fuckin goof. ill remember the name jeff willis.

  • I saw them in Philly on this tour. THey were fantastic despite what Pete had said about the difficulties of this tour. (as this video illustrates)

Really brilliant!!! AND Moon didn't pass out either!!! hehehe

  • LOVE THE WHO

  • ME TOO-I LOVE THE WHO! They rock and their songs are not the easiest to sing for Roger Daltry.

Come tour again dudes! Love ya, saw you

in Chicago (70s) & San Diego (07). Party on!

  • many years ago, I think Pete saw alot alot of things we didnt see, I think we're catching up to him

  • Yeah, like especially how he thought that the word Quadrophenia meant "four split-personalities."

  • I think if I'm not mistaken this is the part in Quadrophenia were Jimmy is on speed and drunk on gin and hears a symphony from a boat engine on the way to the rock.

  • Iwas 9 when first heard the this,6 years later the film,30 years later its still brilliant.... testament enough?

  • this song is indeed a classic!!

  • I was 9 too....I've always loved The Who, especially Roger!!! Brill then still are now!!! LEGEND!!!

  • that was friggin great!!!!!

  • Well, they are both the best; their best; best of all-time. Dr. Jimmy and Won't Get Fooled Again the best songs.... Philly Live is the best performance; I've had it on record since 1974. It was called Decidedly Belated Response.

  • Best track on Quadrophenia.

  • No, but he was molested as a child. It always makes me sad when I think about it.

  • He was suspected of possession of child porn, but none was found and he was never charged.

  • is this about music or what

  • your stupid, just get off youtube please.

  • you sucks

  • you suck.

  • @ damienbaits And what, 3 Days Grace is better? Fuck you, dude!

  • Love the Who-unsung heroes-wish I could see them in L.A. this year, saw them in San Diego last year-love the WHO-LONG LIVE ROCK!

    Thanks for this upload:-)

  • john 5:36-5:43 so funny love them love this song

  • how i wish that one day someone'll produce this concert and the woodstock one on dvd officially....i can't find them anywhere in bootleg format...well, in Italy there's nothing but shit in music stores, so....

  • Stupid 4 Reel Editor.

Other than that, great stuff. "Is it me, for a moment?" I love Quadrophenia.

  • Moonie is a goddamn genius.

  • I was at this show. No one should open for The Who, or bands of their caliber. I have never liked Lynard Skynard, not because they are not good, just because they were like shit compared to The Who!

Saw them on the previous tour also promoting Who's Next, at the SF civic center. I was 13 yrs. old & my dad got me the last available ticket for $5.50. My brother had to drive me.

Saw them in Oakland in the late 80's for a reunion tour & then in 06'. They still ROCK even though 2 are gone.

  • You were at this show? This is the same show Keith passed out and Scott Halpin (RIP) came out of the audience to sit it on drums during the last three songs. Do you remember seeing all of this?

  • Yes, I remember most of it. There were huge white PA's in the back of the auditorium for the quadraphonic effect. It was the first time I had ever seen that. The show was a little disjointed because of Keith's problems. As I recall, he was doing the big drum solo before the scream in "Won't get fooled again" & he kind of stood up & literally banged his head on the gong behind him. He was able to come back for a while, but was done for the night during "Magic Bus". Halpin did a good job.

  • This would have been one of the Best Who shows ever if keith didn't pass out. He was playing great until that moment and it was a perfect performance of Quad. However, this is a Bill Graham recording and rumors are that the Bill's soundboard recording of this is in Wolfgang's Vault. This vault has it's own website which streams shows that were done by Bill Graham. This video is from his archive. Hopefully this video and the soundboard recording are both in his vault. :D

  • totally true. the audio came off the 'board,' I doubt it would be released.

  • I wish they would release this. Quadrophenia is something that hits home for many of us. And, to hear it live in it its heyday(although not critically acclaimed); raw, something more punk than punk.

  • sabbath227 get a grip. this was low-res film taken by the who themselves to evaluate how they were doing syncing to the pre-recorded tapes. it was DUH! never designed for release.

  • Is that right? These videos were to check on their perforance? Very cool, and very professional.

  • hey sabath! WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!

  • I LOVE Quadrophenia! Pete's brilliance really shines through on this album.

    "I'm feeling restless

    Bring another score around

    Maybe something stronger

    Can really hold me down?!"

    AMAZING!

  • Her fellas gonna kill me?

    OH FUCKING WILL HE..?

  • @Scotty90210 BEST PART!

  • Quadrophenia is just pure genius!

  • I had seen a lota of concerts when I was young a teenager during the 70"s I must say This Band THE WHO ,was the best Live band I have Ever Seen!!- 1976 Boston Garden

  • 5/15/08!!

    HAPPY WHO DAY!!

  • Rodger really displayed his rejection to Quadrophenia" during the recording sessions but Pete's persistance proved to be that they were both right and wrong. Rodger was wrong because the music proved over time to be brilliant. Pete was wrong because the technology in the '70s proved to be inept for a live performance. Again.....ahead of their time.

  • 5:36 Entwistle-'hey, who you looking at MF'er'...

  • @bardobound First off do not address the Ox in an impudent manner. The Ox suffered from hearing loss, and he looks at Pete for cues.

  • @bardobound Entwistle was much more expressive than in later appearances

  • I have forever wondered how that supposed "farewell" tour in 1982 affected their credibility. I hope not too much, as the latest album ('Endless Wire') is quite a statement.

  • the lyrics speak for themselves really a briliantly written and performed song

  • The Who were always a different band live, very powerful, but in a different way. Those backing tapes should never have been used because it killed the live performance. After all, they never used tapes in performing "Tommy" and "Amazing Journey" was their best live song.

  • What is it Ill take it Who is She ;I"ll Rape it. Gettin High You can"t beat it"

  • What is it? I'll take it.

Who is she? I'll rape it.

Got a bet there? I'll meet it.

Getting High? You can't beat it. In my opinion, my favorite Who song,

  • Just for the record I had just got done readin some of Petes writings. Keith Moon had relasped after 90 days of sobriety. He ended his own life by takin a lethal mix of barbs. and pills! It was a suicide!!

  • No. Keith was getting his life back on track. His girlfriend says he was calm that night and even left McCartneys Party early to go home to bed. Tragically he just forgot how many pills he'd taken (habit of a lifetime?). Still unsurpassed.

  • such a shame that keith of all people had to die so quietly.

he's definitely in my top five favorite people of all time

ps--babyshambles is one of my favorite bands!

  • for the record, that babyshambles bit was in response to someone else's post, not just me being off topic

  • No, it wasn't

  • f ing great where did u get this

  • I saw them in the Boston Garden april 1st 1976.Keith had O.D on the 2nd set every one laughed, they scheduled a makeup show and he died a few years later.I am glad I was there!!

  • Lucky bastard! I was only 3 months old when Moonie's last Boston show with The Who took place. I have seen The Who FOUR TIMES in the last 19 years, each show better than one before it. In fact, The Who at the old Foxboro Stadium was my first concert in July of 1989 at the tender age of 13 (saw them again in 1997, 2002 and 2006). The Who, Pink Floyd, Rush and Genesis are my FOUR ALL TIME FAVORITE BANDS!

  • In Toronto, on a cold rainy night in November '82, I (literally) fought all night battle in a line-up to get tickets to The Who's final show ever. Coulda scalped tickets for a fortune. Didn't. (They ended up doing Reunion Tours in late 1980's - saw those shows too.) The Who was 'my' band and this was 'my' album. In the concerts(s), Dr Jimmy was the song we all waited for. We were all 'Jimmý'.

  • It was too bad they turned around and have about 6 tours since their "farewell" tour. I have seen them live, and they were fantastic

  • You tell em, RC. If anybody knows, I know you would

  • I thank you I think!

  • Oh my!!!!!

  • when did keith pass out?

  • look on the you TUBE THE WHO MOON IS GONE PART 1-3 you can see keith passing out oh my!!!!!!!!!!

  • During Won't Get Fooled Again, then again on Magic Bus

  • i was at this concert we got there at 8am we were as fuck-up as Keith Moon who passed out and was replaced by a kid name Scott, also a group called Lynyrd Skynyrd opened the show Freebird was the last song they played before the Who came on, did I mention I was fuck-up all day!!!!

  • Hey jackass read this from ALL MUSIC GUIDE Free Bird" and an opening slot on the Who's 1973 Quadrophenia tour gave Lynyrd Skynyrd a devoted following, And furthermore i was at the fuckin concert get your fact right or shut the fuck-off!!!!!!!

  • Haha i love it when john looks at the camera at about 5:40. Quadrophenia is amazing times ten, and great performance.

  • Awesome Awesome Quadrophenia is froma song writting and musical standpoint the who's greatest album

  • This is my favorite Who song.

Not just because of the lyrics, I really love the music, especially during the chorus.

  • Umm...anyone else here gonna post? Kick ass song.

  • Lol chippy200 you're exactly right...No lyrics can beat that. And it's all the way he says fuckin'...Just priceless. Amen to that.

  • Is it me, for a moment?

  • "You say she's a virgin? Well im going to be the first in." nice

  • "her fellas gonna kill me , oh fucking will he" cant be any better lyrics than that

  • Best delivery ever.

  • Classic WHO !!!

  • Doctor Jimmy and Mr. Jim

When I'm pilled you don't notice him

He only comes out when I drink my gin

  • LONG LIVE ROCK!

  • i love this song

  • I love when john notices the camera haha

  • A Classic Theme

  • I don't care what Led Zep or Floyd fanatics say, but the Who was no doubt the 1st group in history where all members took their instruments or voice to the limit and went beyond! They were the 1st to push the envelope, they invented hard rock and punk before they knew what it was, to them, it was just playing!

  • CHUCK - Don't forget Dave Davies and the Kinks! Heavy stuff, that.

  • i wanna see the kid they pulled up on stage for keith after he passed out can u plz post the vid

  • How did they do the horn section for this song live? Was it a tape or a mellotron or something?

  • OMG WHERED YOU GET THIS!

  • good song....Roger forgot the lyrics toward the beginning, though.

  • when?

  • can someone please post won't get fooled again

    from this show.

    KEITH MOON ROCKS

  • That's when he passed out. =P

  • keith moon passed out at won't get fooled again at this show

  • Agree with previous comment. Thank you for a rare treasure. This is from an important period, one that was tough for the band but (from this clip, at least) a time when they delivered on stage.

Even through the technical limitations of this, the performance (and musicianship) comes through.

    Please share more!

  • great great rare piece of footage....i hope people realise what an exceptionaly rare piece of video this is...

    very well done for posting
