I am an Irish Catholic. I believe in all that a Christian believes in. I do not think that Satanism is a path to choose, but I am not a person to speak of such matters. @MrDarksultan First of all, all religion/philosophy is man-made. Second of all, it's an invalid argument to state you love people but not all people at the same time. Love for people is people in general, which contextually means 'all people'. Third, it's against the code of Satanism to harm people to achieve your own self-fulfillment. It is beyond me what your defintion of "rules" are. Those weren't rules, those were statements meant to shatter all the preconcieved rules of religion. Even if they were rules, they'd be really hard to break considering they follow every basic human instinct and desire.

That's good for you, but like all religions Satanism works for different people in different ways. I decided to call myself a Satanist because I agreed with most of the philosophy to begin with, and I always thought Satanic symbols were both aesthetically pleasing and empowering. And reading LaVey's works has given me fascinating insights into the world of philosophy (Nietzsche, Ragnar Redbeard) and occult history which I've always enjoyed.

Sometime after my response I looked into your etymology of the word "Devil" and what I got was that "Diabolos" actually means "Accuser, Slanderer" and not "Deceiver." So "Devil" is actually no different a word that "Satan." With that said, please disregard the first paragraph in my response lol >:P.

Christ did not come to condemn but to save. He did NOT come to set-up another religion. In fact, He made it clear that religion is worthless as a means of knowing God and entering His kingdom. Rather, He said it takes a supernatural work of the Holy Spirit of God to open a person's understanding and change from the inside out. Human nature cannot change human nature; only God can do that.

As I understand it, Satanism encourages an indulgence of human nature or what the bible calls 'the flesh'. Like many other belief systems, it refuses to acknowledge that human nature has somehow become corrupted, tainted and cannot be fixed.
As a Christian, I acknowledge that my natural inclinations are opposed to God and that I was born into this state which the bible calls 'sin', whether I like it or not. This state of sin creates a separation between me and God, who is without sin, i.e. perfect. I believe that Jesus Christ came to bridge this separation and enable us to 're-connect' to God. I do not have religion. I have a relationship with God. I can actually feel His presence. It is a supernatural reality that defies rationale.
Not all prayers are answered, according to our understanding. However, I can testify alongside millions of other believers that my prayers have been and continue to be answered in very specific and detailed ways. Without being in relationship with God, through Christ, a person has no real connection to God in the way He has ordained for us to connect. We would all like God to give us what we want, when we want it but God is more interested in the bigger picture. He wants to develop relationship.

Right and wrong are matters of perception. What is wrong to you may be right to me. There are some nearly universal beliefs about right and wrong, but the christian god DID NOT codify them. They existed long before christianity or even judaism. (example: Code of Hammurabi in Sumeria.) We don't need "god" to tell us what we already know. Why not turn the "bad side" of humanity into something good? Why so one-sided?
Lordalastor, there is such a thing as absolute reality and not just subjective perception. Some things just are, whether we believe in them or not. You can spend your life believing a table is a chair if you like, i.e. subjective reality but, in the final analysyis, it will always be a table, regardles of what you believe.
God is the ultimate absolute reality. He exists whether or not we choose to acknowledge Him and He is totally unaffected by our belief or disbelief. He just is.

As you said before, Satan is an angel not a deity, and yes he is a created being. Created by Yahweh. However, the scripture makes it clear that the angels rebelled against Yahweh out of pride and a desire to usurp Him; obviously a doomed endeavour from the outset. Honestly I've never really cared that much about jesus. I was raised christian, and I went along with what I was taught, but things just didn't add up, didn't make sense, and most of all, didn't feel right. Either christianity is wrong, or I am incompatible with it, and I think it's actually both of these things, I know more about the christian faith than anyone who I'm acquainted with, and I know a lot of christians. I even have a friend who reminds me a lot of you.

The first two address a HUMAN ruler, the third is about the END TIMES not the war in heaven that took place at the beginning. And Genesis? I never said there was no absolute reality, but that can only be proven as such in a scientific sense. Spirituality cannot be proven, it can only be felt. It is beyond me what your defintion of "rules" are. Those weren't rules, those were statements meant to shatter all the preconcieved rules of religion. Even if they were rules, they'd be really hard to break considering they follow every basic human instinct and desire.

I decided to call myself a Satanist because I agreed with most of the philosophy to begin with, and I always thought Satanic symbols were both aesthetically pleasing and empowering. And reading LaVey's works has given me fascinating insights into the world of philosophy (Nietzsche, Ragnar Redbeard) and occult history which I've always enjoyed.

I know Satan means 'adversary'. An alternative reference to the same being is devil or diabolos, mean 'deceiver', i.e. liar. Jesus spoke of him and called hima a thief and a liar who comes to steal, kill and destroy. Prayer is communication with God and includes a response from the one doing the praying, i.e. action. Greed is a desire for more than we need and infers covetousness, i.e. the willingness to harm or resent others when they have what we don't. Having a desire to have what we need and be able to bless others, care for our families, help the poor etc. is not the same as greed.

The Greek word "diabolos" means "the liar" or "the one that commits perjury", from the verb "diaballo", which means "to throw in", "to generate confusion", "to divide", or "to make someone fall". Later the word "diabolos" was used by Christian writers as "the liar that speaks against God". From this meaning come many modern languages' words for "devil" (French: diable, Italian: diavolo, Spanish: diablo, Portuguese: diabo, German: Teufel).

Christ did not come to condemn but to save. He did NOT come to set-up another religion. In fact, He made it clear that religion is worthless as a means of knowing God and entering His kingdom. Rather, He said it takes a supernatural work of the Holy Spirit of God to open a person's understanding and change from the inside out. Human nature cannot change human nature; only God can do that.

As I understand it, Satanism encourages an indulgence of human nature or what the bible calls 'the flesh'. Like many other belief systems, it refuses to acknowledge that human nature has somehow become corrupted, tainted and cannot be fixed.

As a Christian, I acknowledge that my natural inclinations are opposed to God and that I was born into this state which the bible calls 'sin', whether I like it or not. This state of sin creates a separation between me and God, who is without sin, i.e. perfect. I believe that Jesus Christ came to bridge this separation and enable us to 're-connect' to God. I do not have religion. I have a relationship with God. I can actually feel His presence. It is a supernatural reality that defies rationale.

Not all prayers are answered, according to our understanding. However, I can testify alongside millions of other believers that my prayers have been and continue to be answered in very specific and detailed ways. Without being in relationship with God, through Christ, a person has no real connection to God in the way He has ordained for us to connect. We would all like God to give us what we want, when we want it but God is more interested in the bigger picture. He wants to develop relationship.

For every prayer that "seems" answered, there dozens if not hundreds more that aren't. Half of the time answered prayers are just dumb luck.
On the other half, the wish was fulfilled by the person himself with no help from outside forces; the prayer only served as a confidence boost. Satanism recognizes the usefulness of this as tool for action, and an alternative is used: Satanic Ritual.

Right and wrong are matters of perception. What is wrong to you may be right to me. There are some nearly universal beliefs about right and wrong, but the christian god DID NOT codify them. They existed long before christianity or even judaism. (example: Code of Hammurabi in Sumeria.) We don't need "god" to tell us what we already know. Why not turn the "bad side" of humanity into something good? Why so one-sided?

That was just uncalled for. First of all, the bible was written from a christian perspective only. Second, not all satanists worship an anthropomorphic "Satan." Satan used to be a good angel that tested human beings in Judaism. He wasn't considered bad until the Jews came back from the Babylonian Exile with Persian Dualism. there is a verse in the old testament that god creates good and evil, light and darkness. Satan works for god in job, but christians are too ignorant to seek the truth.

I would not describe the evil inflicted upon Job as 'good'. It is God who allows it to happen but it is Satan who made the initial request to tempt and test Job.

One more thing...Satan is not a christian invention. There has been an adversarial deity (though this was not equated with the christian concept of evil.) in many pre-christian cultures. He just went by different names, and all christians did was copy off of everything that came before them. Christianity is an epic fail and a waste of time. As you said before, Satan is an angel not a deity, and yes he is a created being. Created by Yahweh. However, the scripture makes it clear that the angels rebelled against Yahweh out of pride and a desire to usurp Him; obviously a doomed endeavour from the outset. How can anyone fight the ultimate being and win? If they did, then they would in fact be the ultimate being.

I don't think I'd ever be an 'ex-Christian' because my faith does not rest upon my ability to 'perform' but solely upon what Jesus did for me, i.e. what I could never do for myself through sacrifice or 'good works'.

Honestly I've never really cared that much about jesus. I was raised christian, and I went along with what I was taught, but things just didn't add up, didn't make sense, and most of all, didn't feel right. Either christianity is wrong, or I am incompatible with it, and I think it's actually both of these things, I know more about the christian faith than anyone who I'm acquainted with, and I know a lot of christians. I even have a friend who reminds me a lot of you.

I never said there was no absolute reality, but that can only be proven as such in a scientific sense. Spirituality cannot be proven, it can only be felt. Lots of Christians say they believe because they "feel it in their heart." That's subjective. I'm perfectly happy being a Satanist and I've never felt the need to "have god." If that works for you then fine, this proves that people really are fundamentally different. But it' IS wrong to say that one path of spirituality is right.
