Thank you for the lesson. It is opening up a whole new way of looking at blues for me. I have been always locked into the pentatonic box patterns and this is revolutionary to me. It sounds so good and yet I would never have picked those notes. Which lessons (paid) that you give would you recommend for me to broaden my horizons? This is deeper than just memorizing patterns to me...
Thx again for another great lesson. Good Luck in Philly... I tried to figure out why U go from b and slide to d (wich isn't in the minor pent.) in the second lick. It also isn't in the 4chord or 5chord minor pent, but it is in the major b scale, right ? Is this an example of mixing minor and major pent ?
do u know if stevie ray ever even used standard tuning

@yamahabigbear123 Possibly when he started out, the vast majority of his recorded work is in Eb tuning.

Love the lick. I'm pretty sure JM played something very similar to it at his live LA concert and I was trying to figure it out. Thanks!

@LeJo82 Yes. Never let a scale tell you no, when your ear tells you yes :-)

@gr8bluesgtr I think that has just become a famous quote...

@LeJo82 thats exactly right. bb king used a combination of the major and minor pent. in different forms. and he never plays a wrong note! sweet huh?

Excellent stuff. These Free Friday Lessons get me playing at least once a week (which is good!) plus they're great to watch with a beer after work :)

Cool licks Anthony. The guitar convention sounds like it's going to be a good time.

what key is this or rather where is the root note for the first position so I know where I am.
safenders 1 year ago
@safenders Bflat, in half-step down tuning, this puts your root of the I chord at the 7th fret.
