  • That knife looks freakin' awesome. And now it's got a history. Thumbs up!

  • im geting 1

  • Fuck table top-armchair reviewers, or the so called "destruction tests" that border the ridiculous. This video shows the results from REAL field testing.

Thumbs up for your video. One of the few really serious knife videos out there.

  • Deployed you make due with what you have.

  • I have beat my model1 to hell and back & she still locks up perfectly. It's a wonderful knife and IMO it can't be beat at the price point. Comes wicked sharp.

  • What I am really impressed with - THE USER. Thanks for everything.

  • That knife looks like it has been used many times well beyond "with in reason". Still, it looks like it held up really well all things considered.

  • Now thats what I call a "desert tan" color ... Oh wait no its supposed to be black ...

  • Pretty cool but I cant hear you? You are whispering and its frustrating...

  • @MarcoMontana22 I heard him fine. Nice video with some great gear.

  • SOLD! I'll order one tonight. Thanks for the review, and HUGE thanks to your buddy for his service to all of us.

  • bought one of these recently...its an awesome knife

  • i have a new found respect for liner locks now...

  • wow man, this piece deserves to rest in the showcase with all the dust on it too....nice think that can bring back memories after some time.

  • like the modified tip! ;)

  • Jesus, I guess its nice knowing that some of the stuff on the cheaper side can still take a beating. Thanks for the video

  • to screwdrive, dont use the tip, use the back of the knife blade

  • this confirms my already firm beliefs that this is one of the best knives! especially for the price...

  • Incredible revue Man!

This is a REAL test . . . we should be using our soldiers as gear testers!

    Wow!

  • just ordered mine with the OD green handles and serrations. That knife deserves it's own parade! Tell your buddy I said thanks for his dedication and service to this country.

  • @jordub I will pass this on for you, it is an awesome knife! Appreciate your comments. R.I.P. Jason

    GBNF Mom

  • @mrmilleniumproof Are you talking about VG1 steel? Yeah, that's the fame, nice sharp edge but weak, brittle.

  • I'm buying this as soon as the bank processes the money I just paid in

I was going to go with the satin finish but the black looks awesome all worn down :D

  • QUESTION!!!!!

how come the point end of your knife looks different than the point on my knife

(not the point itself but the tip, your looks bent down)

  • I'm gonna buy one of these but the satin finish. I can see getting the black paint on for tactical purposes if needed (until it all scrapes off!) but otherwise the satin finish is way better choice. Looks very ugly when the black paint scrapes off.

  • How long was he deployed and how often did did he use the light ?

  • Yeah, my version of the LD20 lasts 70+ hours if you use it just on the lowest setting. Awesome light.

  • for a cheap painted on finish i'm very impressed as to how it held up considering what the knife went through. i think it looks cool

  • @TheVollertron Yeah I'm with you on that, the more it gets beat up the more I like the thing lol. Thanks for watching!

  • @hathcocked btw... love the username. carlos hathcock was an absolute beast.

  • @TheVollertron thats cause you are a dumbass

  • The RAT 1 just continues to impress. Respect to your buddy for hid service and glad he returned safely. We have our service people there too and they are often on my thoughts. Best wishes and thanks for the video.

  • @AussieMark909 Can't go wrong with the Rat! Thanks man my buddy always appreciates those comments, I'll pas them along to him. Thanks for watching!

  • @Solareffects No problem, I'm the same way. I love to see a tool put through some hard use, always nice to see the worst case scenario as far as wear goes. Thanks for watching!

  • you got a tripod lying in front of you why not use it?

  • Glad to see that your buddy got back safe.

  • @ddmo2 Thanks, he always appreciates those type of comments!

  • @hathcocked is he dead?

  • thats great, but hey as a light why not a zippo lighter, its metal caseing so won't bust or leak... i mean if he can get his hands on fluid to fill it every week or so... or even a bic lighter cuz he wont need to fill it + it holds alot of fluid... tell him thanks for serving ;) and also nice vid im gana sub right now ;) i'd like to see more of these types... hmm maybe see how a BM 710 does in the future , later dude!

  • What kinda watch did he wear in Afghanistan?

  • Looks great. A good honing and putting it in a case for the kids sounds good. I'm intending to add one to my collection soon.

Big question, any issues with the LD20. I have had mine for almost a year under quite hard use round the water, engine rooms, sand, grease. I love it. But it started simply not turning on from time to time. No matter what I do it just won't turn on. Contacts all clean and new batteries, it just on occasion will not function. So curious if any of that was experienced?

  • @skylarker9 I have never had any issues with mine and I use it on a daily basis to this day. My buddy is still carrying the one shown in the video that he took to Afghanistan and hasn't had any issues either. I'm sorry to hear you are having troubles with yours. Have you tried to contact Fenix?

  • @hathcocked Thanks for the comment. I did contact Fenix and they were very interested to learn of my issues and very willing to help. My brother has another model and had similar issues, which he figured out to be a loose retaining ring inside the pommel where the button is located. He just tightened it and it works fine now. I'm going to try the same once I get it back from the ship I left it on. Thanks again and Happy New Year.

  • @skylarker9 I'm glad to hear Fenix is treating you right. I hope that quick fix works for you and you get the light back up and running, thanks for sharing that info! No problem at all and I hope the new year treats you better then the last!

  • do you know if he used it in combat?

  • @no1livez4evr He carried it with him but thankfully no it never came down to using a knife.

  • I was watching one of these on ebay, watched some vids on it. This video took me from watching to pushing the commit to buy button, I even bought the black one so it would look sick after it wore off... awesome vid. Hope your buddy got home safe

    KX.

  • @KX250XK Awesome! I have mine in my pocket right now, it's still serving me well on a daily basis. My buddy made it home fine, just had a few beers with him yesterday. I am sure you will love the Rat, thanks for watching!

  • I got a Rat 1 but yours looks way cooler! What was under it?

  • @no1livez4evr It was a GorillaPod mini tripod.

  • It's a great pleasure to see tool's and how their perform in duty - as opposite to all these collector-vid's from guys who has never, ever had another view than how to open the box and giving a nonsence opinion.

    Peter, Cph.

  • @divinesdun Thanks Peter! Glad you enjoyed the video.

  • Can I use energizer lithium batteries in this light?

  • @torgomax They should work fine.

  • I got my Fenix LD20 the other day. Its a great light!

    Thanks for your recommendation Hathcocked.

  • @torgomax No problem, glad you like it!

  • I love seeing well used gear.

  • @ctfam Me too man!

  • @ctfam i was about to write a comment like that. it's easy for manufacturers to say their product is tough. but once they're used could break. seeing how these 3 items held up reassures me that they're worth the buy.

  • marines or army

  • @xxbryan715xx Marines.

  • I would frame that knife in a little case and not clean it or anything. Save it for him to put on the shelf for his kids or family to look at in the future.

Thanks for sharing this. I'm really impressed by that knife.

  • i have that same bendy tripod thing. works awesome.

  • @nightmarefacility The Gorilla pod rocks, I use it all the time. Thanks for watching.

  • do you know how to make those knots? i guess thats paracord right

if you do, can you make a video please on how to make them?

  • @HarseyAirRanger I did both of those in the video. I learned how to do them on youtube. Just do a search for "chris reeves lanyard" and there are a couple videos that show how to tie them, it's pretty easy.

  • @hathcocked

thanks ive allready learned how to, again thanks

  • Thank you for posting this. One day there will be no more war.

  • WoW! What a great video, testing these great products! Awesome video! Thanks!

  • @thecajunblaze Glad you enjoyed it man, high praise coming from you. You have an awesome channel.

  • Tell your buddy that i said thanks for serving! Kick ass review!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @killkill120 Will do man, thanks for watching!

  • just orderd the knife in satin finish because of the black finish wearing off..

nice vid and interesting to see how it took all that beating:P

  • @frankvanoostendorp It's a great knife, I am sure you will love it. I still carry mine every day. Thanks for watching!

  • That Rat folder is HAMMERED! Yeah, dude. Sometimes you have to use whatever you have to get the job done. I hope I never have to do that with any of my blades though.

  • I ended up fixing her up and she's sharp as a razor again, back to carrying it every day. Ontario did finally respond to my email after a few months and said "we do like to see things like this and we support our troops" or something to that effect. Better late then never I guess.

  • Sand in Afghanistan is gold? LOL

  • whats those beads in the background?

  • If you mean what the Rat is sitting on at the start it's a Gorillapod tripod.

  • ooo lol!

  • i think its a flexible tripod or something, i saw something like this in a catalogue for an ipod

  • it`s a tripod i think

  • very interesting, you should send this vid to the manufacturers, they'd probably appreciate it.

  • I emailed Ontario about it when I made the video but never received a response.

  • Wow, first time i have seen an ld20 from the battlefield.

  • Thanks, glad you liked it.

  • Dude, that stuff just looks sooo cool with the "moondust" and the scratched blade looks wicked!

Nice to see a vid about stuff that was taken to a warzone and made it back.

  • Thanks, glad you enjoyed it.

  • It's great seeing a RAT1 after some very serious use/abuse. I like mine much more now, even though I trusted it's ruggedness before seeing this.

    Great vid!!

  • Thanks!

  • great video mate and equipment love the knife. 5********

  • Awesome vid man. I would have liked to see the restoration too. I am glad it held up well for your friend and looks to have served him well. Thanks for posting dude.

    ---Zach

  • Thanks Zach, glad you liked it.

  • the rat-1 is def on my wish list

and lol looks like u got a "gorrila hand" aswell, i recently bought one, seems ideal for filming my splendid self in a forest since it can grip to tree branches n stuff :D

  • Yeah the Gorilla pod's are neat for sure. I only wish I would have bought the larger one.

  • ah, they only had one size where i bought mine

  • Are those worth it, I thought about getting one for my vids. The third hand would come in handy.

  • I like it a lot. It lets you do a lot of things a regular tripod can't like wrapping it around a tree branch or like I did the other did hanging it upside down from the rear view mirror. I do find myself wishing it were longer, I have the smallest one they have. It makes a nice addition to a regular tripod though.

  • I believe I must have one.

  • If you feel like taking on a project you can make your own pretty easily with stuff from the hardware store. I am thinking about doing one so I can make it the length I want. Just google "make your own gorilla pod".

  • I'll check it out, but deep down I'm just a Consumer Whore and will probbly just buy a fancy one with a box and all.

Do you think it would stay put wrapped around a rifle foregrip?

  • I tried it on my Sig but the smaller gorilla pod wasn't too stable. I think if it was longer it would work, could wrap it around more.

  • I think I will have to try it out. I've been doing it with a million zip ties.

  • Cool...best knife update I have seen, real use. Nothing more real than a war...

  • Thanks man. Yeah I figured not many people would be able to show this kind of update. I only wish I could have sent him with more gear to beat on.

  • Great vid, looks like the gear held up well even under the conditions they were used in. I would leave the RAT as is, I know I would want it to be in the condition I knew it was in when I left it. I guess I'm sentimental. The LD20 barely looks used at all, held up great.

  • He told me I could keep it, I am going to frame it as is and toss it on my desk.

  • There you go, thats what I would do.

  • He does want his LD20 back though lol. Just got done cleaning it up for him.

  • I bet you pulled out more garbage than it looked like it had. Fine grit sand gets everywhere. I'm sure you conditioned the threads and O-Rings like a pro as well.

  • Yeah it's surprising how nasty it was, doesn't show it really in the video. Yep I took care of her, shes all ready for the prom. I thought about doing a cleaning video but the one you made covered it perfectly.

  • Thanks brother.

Too bad you didnt though, I would have liked to see just how much grime they hold, I'm sure it would have to be 100x worse than it was before failing. The Clickie sounds like no grime at all managed to get inside the unit.

  • There was some light dust inside the tube which just shows how invasive that crap is over there. Other then that it was all external, the most build up was under the edge of the flashlight head right below the o ring. Now that it's clean I can barely tell the difference between this one and mine.

  • hey at least the rat is at a low price.

  • Yep can't beat it for the cost.

  • Awesome man. Thanks for this video!

  • No problem, glad you liked it.

  • Good video / story

  • Thanks!

  • That's a good review actually used in extreme conditions. I have a Rat 1. So that's good to see. Good luck to your friend. 5*s

  • Thanks. There are many Rat1 fans on youtube including myself, I was glad to see it held up well beyond most knives at this low of a price.
