@euch27 im very curious as to what they are also. Based on what i've gathered from reviews, i'd assume that the sound is much much brighter. Its also not always great to have a very loud instrument when it comes to ensemble pieces. Preference is key when looking at instruments tho. ;)
They are nice instruments, but there it is really nothing like a wooden instrument. These instruments are very responsive, and very sensitive. They don't handle bow pressure well, but you don't have to try very hard to get sound out of it.
I Think that there is nothing like playing in a wood instrument but I heard that the sound of that instrument is so much better, a litle brighter but much powerful, am i right?
i must agree, it does sound brighter! its as if it got amplified, like you placed an entire cathedral inside the instrument to make it resound every note :P
@hippieMan4203 that can be changed. You can change the resin formulation to be more pliable to produce counter-resonance frequencies from the body to create warmth.
It's a demonstration. No acoustical shells, no mic, this cello is twice as loud as a wood cello. I'm not saying the man is a virtuoso, but he's skilled. This video is more about the unique instrument.
@bunabayashi I'm not going against anything that you're saying, but saying that the cello is twice as loud as a wooden cello is a bit inaccurate. This is a music hall, is it not? Therefore, one would expect that the cello be quite louder than the norm. So, again, I do not mean to offend you or go against anything you say, but I just thought I'd point this out.

you can tell over your computer through a sh*tty youtube video? most people need to be right in front of the instrument or at least a $25000+ sound system to get a accurate depiction of sound quality. but you can do it here eh? sony should hire you to honne the sound quality of their garbage then.
Very nicely played! I love the intro too! I thought it id not need the zooming. Very cool instrument indeed and I bet that sucker is much lighter to carry to gigs!
It comforts me that a professional player sometimes makes those squeaky sounds that I often make when my finger touches the string!

very unusual fingerings!

it also sounds less warm than it should because of the quality of the recording... the microphone used did not capture bass very well.

wow, thats really beautiful. I wasn't expecting a carbon fiber instrument to sound like that... o.O :D :D

An instrument can't make music beautiful. It is the player what makes it beautiful.

I don't know if you know, but the man playing is also the inventor.

Do you really mean to say you find this sound beautiful? Is all this atrocious reverb what you call "beautiful" ??
I strongly advise you to listen to the recording of the Bach suites by Danish cellist Erling Blöndal Bengtsson.

Actually, he is the former principal cellist of the Boston Symphony. So yes, he is quite skilled.

@bunabayashi He played with the Boston Symphony Orchestra for over 40 years. They would not keep him if he was a chump.

I have to agree with him, although bluntly put the audio quality of Youtube is not accommodating to any recording.
It is still pretty cool to hear a carbon fibre cello in action, being played by a professional.
