hello people there are two type of M/// 3 e36 -----> US-Spec (S52b30 /S52b32 single Vanos) which produces ~ 240 Bhp (both engines) and EU (S50b30 ---> 286 Bhp/S52B32 ---->321 Bhp ) both European M/// are equipped with Double Vanos ! so there is nothing impossible to 328 beat an American M///3 E36 ,because if you do just little (Air) mods to 328(m52b28) it will definitely beat a US-Spec M///3 ...

yellow bmw is an me proof is beacuse this first of all it has the e36 type 2 m3 rims and the front has a little lip at the bottom front of the car and the wing on the back all tings came stock on an m3 e36. the reason he lost is either because that 328 is suped or the m3 is a shitty driver

also later 328s and 323s use double vanos ,not single like m3,the m3 also has chasis strengthening under engine to reduce flex,a 328 with a good turbo should keep up easily with a m3 but that sort of upgrade aint cheap,also m3 cams can be used in 323 or 328 ,m3 engines take much more stick my 328 sounds just like a m3 0-60 is about 7 secs

as said by a couple of others the m52b28 engine is 40kg lighter ,the launch on the m3 looked like he was at about 1000rpm too,i think the yellow cars was also a 328 as the acceleration was same once underway,ive got a 328i with the m50 manifold,magnex ss exaust,odb II reprogram,my adaption reset and i get 244hp on a rolling road at wheels ,and im way behind my mates standard m3 ,the reason the engines lighter is cos of the alloy block,m3 uses cast iron,final drive is also taller in a m3..8-)

1. the M3 driver sucks, he has to learn to drive.

2. 328 is still good like an M3 until 100kmh...M3 can give them approx 1-2 cars max.

3. The diference will be above 150kmh.

Come on guys. The m3 obviously launched at the wrong rpm and the driver of the 328 did. I know i own a 95 m3 alpine white. With a 3.5k - 4.0k rpm launch, that 328 will lose. Of course it still depends on the car and driver ;)

e36 m3 is much heavier than e36 325i or e36 328i, if 1992-1994 e36 325i swap in with M52B28 OBD1 system motor, than it will be around 1350KG; the e36 M3 which was 1500KG will be 150-100KG+/- heavier, e36 325i M50B25 engine much heavier than M52B28, but the chassic was much less weight, e36 328i (M52) and E36 325i (M50) was equal weight,

some what 1450KG+/-

look youguys, they both have similar torque, ie, m3 if its a 3.0 has 236 lbs and the 328 has about 212 lbs so there isnt much between them i know i worked on my m3 for years . also the 3.0 m3 gearbox is identical to the 328i . and so is the 3.15 diff, when it goes to 3.2 evo its a whole different ballpark.

THE 328I E36 GEARBOX MAKES THE DIFERENCE. THE 1st AND 2nd GEAR IS LIKE AT 320i (SHORT GEAR) AND THAT MAKES 328I TO BEAT M3 IN SHORT DISTANCE NOT MORE THEN 150-200 METERS. ALSO 328i E36 BEATS M5 E34 ON VERY SHORT DISTANCE (150METERS). AT THE FINAL LINE 328i LOSES.

an AA supercharged e36 328is can have anywhere from 40 to 110 more HP than a stock e36 M3...

but im guessing the case here is just the M3 driver had a bad start is all. Ha, i drive a 328is and i love it, but id rather have an M3
