@johnthejohnjohnson, yeah it's the same melody as englands national anthem, but it's always been our "King song" too. Don't know the reason but I think it's because the royal family of norway and england are close related..

yes indeed, but it's our Royal anthem too as well as our national, hence it being called "God Save The Queen". Either way, both anthems are as beautiful as each other!

This is in norwegian called "Kongesangen". And this song is for our King. Our national anthem is called "Ja, vi elsker dette landet"

Yes, I have heard both, very beautiful songs especially the national anthem which I heard sang by a choir. I wonder how/why Norway has the same Royal Anthem as the UK? Same with Liechtenstein. Similar lyrics too.

yes possibly, maybe in some way the Royalties of the Germanic countries are related...I mean it could be possible since our queen is half German and the Queen's husband is half Danish. Weird.

Our Kings grandmother, Queen Maud, was an English Princess before she married the Danish Prince Carl, whom later became the first King of Norway after the dissolution of the union between Norway and Sweden. Prince Carl and Princess Maud were cousins, so I think all of the Royalties in Europe are related in some sort of way, hehe...

The original version is called "Heil dir im Siegerkranz", and is used in many countries as either national, royal or non-formal anthem. (UK, Switzerland, Norway, Lichtenstein, formerly in Russia, Germany, etc. many more)

@DonSimonUK This is not the National anthem of Norway. - it's the Royal Anhem. In 1905 the Danish prince Carl was elected king Haakon the 7th of Norway, He was married to Maud - the daughter of the british king Edward the 7th - thus the choice of Royal anthem ;-)
