When you have real singers today like Jamey johnson who is to " ruff " for radio play because of all the prissy soda pop music lovin soccer moms being politically correct, maybe someone like scotty mcreery can keep it going. I have not listened to country music radio on a norm in years because of all the urban rock pop country crap. Just my opinion.

This man is the GREATEST country music poet love song writer of all time next to Doug Stone,,No one has come close to Keith yet,,,and I still play his songs at weddings today,, it s amazing the kds of today even know him.

But I wonder if you're familiar with Townes Van Zandt, Rodney Crowell, Guy Clark, or Steve Earle? Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Keith Whitley, but he was, in my opinion, nowhere near the caliber of those I just mentioned. @pg1171 you should look up Townes Van Zandt. I'm not being rude, but I think you should do a little research, Townes influenced Keith. Townes wrote 'Pancho and Lefty' which was a huge hit for Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard in '83. As you've said, this is just my opinion, and as equally available for criticism as yours, I didn't write that to be judgmental, just saying, you should listen if u appreciate Country Music. @myself7 Why the artist you listed were great artists in their own rights. Keith Whitley was better. he was in the scene a much shorter time (sadly) and accomplished as much if not more than these people did in the 2-5x more time these people had. He is known by people who don't follow country music and his songs are still popular today. Where as previous posts have indicated some of the people you picked even some country music followers asked who they were. Again good artist but not Keith.

..and it is no indication of his talents. You cannot list sentimentality as an asset to him when it's source is within yourself. What you mean to say isn't "Keith Whitley was better" what would have been more correct would have been " I like Keith Whitley better". My argument isn't sentiment, or preferential, it's that the artists I've mentioned were/are better composers and musicians. You will never be able to really know music until you put aside schoolyard adoration.

Keith was more well known, thus did more for the industry in the short amount of time he was in the scene. No one is trying to change your opinion, however they are stating the real facts of the situation, and whether you agree doesn't change the facts themselves. The artist you picked are good just not great and still have not accomplished what Keith did in a shorter time frame.
