I recall that my parents listened and sang and I could not stand that old lady's big bun and her long handkerchief. Today it is me who listens to his masterpieces and admire this beautiful voice that does not quite recognize. My parents told me she had a concert and that people had sold their furniture, jewelry to buy a ticket ..... I understand better now
While tremendously enjoying a quite time listening to Um Kulthoum, I can't help it remembering -with great appreciation and love- my former middle school classmate in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia who introduced me to her when we were 14 years old (I never liked her until then). His name is Usama Hamzah Waznah from Almadena Almunawwarah, Saudi Arabia.
He asked to just give her a try and pay close attention to her voice and the lyrics, that was ages and ages ago; I AM SO GLAD I did.
she has a great voice BUT , She is super overrated , She has simple lyrics and music that always mean the same thing . She always sings the same old boring way .
allah 3aliki ya sit.... isma3ou ri22it il kalam wi ma3nah...... dilwa2ti haifa il haifa bit2oul: bous il wawa.looolll allah yir7amik ya sit w yir7am ayyamik 7'lllitina ilil kilab tinhach fi 3admina wallahi
she is simply the world's best singer. if you hear good after he you hear that she has a great voice all Arabs love her and all human risk hear her songs they are all good
yes , by all of times.she is one can tuoch your heart.and she is dead in 1975 but there is millones whos loving her and her songs until today and tommorw and forever,
I've forgotten what it's like to sleep and dream and can't tell night from day.
When you're far away from me, my life is meaningless but no matter how sleepless & wasted I am without you and no matter how tedious and unbearable my nights become thinking of you, my passion will always burn for you. Life means nothing without you and nothing will ever keep me from loving you.
I believe he wrote some very famous pieces for Halim and Warda though...I'm pretty sure he was very talented man. Of course Kalthoum made all her composers famous...
I double dare anyone disputing the talent of Um Kalthoum, to give me a 65 decibel tone of 440 Hertz for non-stop 23 seconds, enjoying time doing it on harmony scale, like she did in this video at 01:07.
Everyone needs to understand that this singer cannot be replicated nor imitated. Her music and her voice are one of a kind. Her band are maestros and it's a combination of Arabic finest musicians song writers and composers which delivers unprecedented quality and sound. Her music will live forever. End of story.
You are absolutely right, Umm Kalthoum cannot be replicated nor imitated; she's one of a kind, that's for sure.
By the way zeinb, just the other day I clicked & listened to some cheap Lebanese singer named Nancy Ajram trying to imitate Umm Kalthoum by singing Alf Leila Wu Leila and I almost PUKED! I am NOT kidding you; please scroll down to the right of this video & check it out...
