I had never realized that the whole drum rotated like that until I saw a photo of the internals of a Lweis drum earlier. That's why I found this video, to make sure. I'd love to shoot one of these some day. But then again there's a lot of guns I'd like to shoot some day!
I'll assume that as a C2 builder, you make a lot of your own parts given the age of a lot of the weapons you have. As such, where do you get the diagrams and part information with the level of specificity you need? Do you just reverse engineer from spare and broken parts?
Why does is rise so much? Only the first shot is on target, all subsequent rounds are way over. You would think with 13 kg it should stay put. Nice vid thanks for posting.
@ThePerfectRed The gun appears to kick alot but it's just the unstable mount I was using plus the camera is between me and the gun, not as easy as you might think.
@MrLegoBoom nope, it's an American/British Lewis Gun. The DP-28 used a similar magazine, but the guns are different internally, and the Lewis is an older design. The Lewis was designed in the USA and adopted by the British and Belgian armies, which used it in world war I. The DP-28 was designed and used in the USSR and saw service in world war II and the Korean War.
@buck7475 You're a shallow person to make such an assumption. Each person is different, because one person likes a gun, it does not mean he/she is a deviate and is of lesser intelligence.
@HwyPony The Chauchat was one of the first light machine guns designed to be a mobile machine gun but was terrible in service. The Lewis Gun was far superior but Politics played a dirty hand in Allied countries felt obligated to France and used thier gun. Many a Allied soldier died needlessly because thier guns were taken away from them and then given the Chauchat.
@C2builder the cuauchat was actually a decent gun for it's time, it just had the fatal flaw of having magazines with holes in the side. not a bad idea, in ideal circumstances, because it lets you quickly check how many rounds are left.
in the mud of the trenches, however, it's a REALLY bad idea. those magazines caused 2/3rds of the failures. they didn't fix the magazines until 1918, at what point the chauchat performed fairly well, but the war was almost over.
@C2builder The Chauchat's bad reputation comes from the Mle1918 30-06 model they issued to the US, in the original 8mm Lebel calibre it was quite reliable the only flaw being the magazines, the Germans gave a bounty to soliders who would capture them in combat as they pressed them into service given their lack of LMGs. the 30-06 models were quickly made/converted and the chamber measurements were slightly out which lead to feed and extraction problems that and the open magazine were its downfall
@HwyPony The Fusil mitrailleur Mle 1915 CSRG has the distinction of being named the most 'useless machine gun in history' - as our friend C2builder pointed out the Lewis was superior but due to politics this was a messup where Allied soldiers were given the horrible Fusil mitrailleur Mle 1915 CSRG which sacrificed quality for quantity - it had a reputation for a relatively low ROF and was sensitive to jamming in the trenches unfortunately :(
Very cool. I was watching either the military channel or history channel and they were showing machine guns. And that was one of them. I guess they were not only fast but accurate to boot. Thanks for the video.
My all time Fav. If there was just 1 historical piece I could own this would be it. The Belgian Rattlesnake. I'll always remember Bogey & Lorre shooting down the Nazi Condor in Passage to Marseilles!
Can someone please tell me how 29 people disliked this?? I mean its a cool gun, good camera angle and great quality!! And if they don't like guns, why would they even watch a video with the word gun in the title!
@Crazylegs973 because they're black ops and game fans so they don't know shit about guns. and they're probly like "OOHHH! thats fake. trust me i play black ops"
First World War airmen used to use a Lewis gun. Was that a full drum of ammo you just fired off there? How many seconds sustained fire does a Lewis gun give you? How long does it take to change the drum, baring in mind that the Red Baron might be on your tail!
@Poopingbotham The aircraft Lewis Gun used a 97 rd mag and it ssat higher on the gun, so different sights were used. Most guns at high altitude never got hot so the Lewis Gun didn't need the cooling barrel shroud as the ground version. The mag can be changed in about 5 seconds.
@Poopingbotham The ground mags (shown) are only 47rd and it would take alot of mag dumps to get the barrel hot. It's hard to get a barrel too hot with a mag fed gun, unless it was one of those Beta 100rd mags for the M16.
@C2builder I read that some of those aircraft version Lewis guns were issued to the Home Guard during WW2, and they never suffered overheating, showing the cooling system to be unnecessary added weight.
Though I'd have thought the HG wouldn't run as many rounds through them as the regulars.
@OneGhettoKid Contrary to what most are saying I was intentionally shooting above those targets. Just spraying dirt for the video. I needed those targets intact for sighting a rifle after this vid.
@CSnakeV The term C2 comes from a classification here in the USA that is assigned to Federal licensed NFA firearm manufacturers. Of course the 'builder' is a given, so I am a Class 2 machine gun manufacturer.

@RebelHawkeye1 That one's 47 rounds - 2 rows of 25, but the space of 3 is taken up by the feed. The double-height ones used on aircraft or "installations" were 97 rounds (4 x 25 - 3).
It's funny that it took apes almost a million years to figure out that a projectile can be fired out of cyclindrical tube to kill soneone, dont u think?
@paranoid19851 The English Lewis M.20 usually had a drum that could held 47 rounds, same goes for most other countries using the Lewis M.20, so far i can tell. The Dutch, however, used a 97 round drum for theyr Lewis M.20's.
@C2builder I'm Australian and firearms are completely illegal here, but i was wondering what you had to do to get that 'C2' licence? Do you just buy it?
@OliByGolly1 No,you have to put in a application and then wait for months and months, you also get a face-toface interview with a real live ATF agent that tells you the do's & don'ts of having the license. Then after you get your FFL license you pay a special tax status and then each year comply to all the $#@*&^% regulations they make you adhere to, there is alot of bookkeeping involved. It can be fun at time but they make sure you are a "business" and not just playing.
This particular model of automatic weapon was highly favoured by ANZAC forces throughout the Possiers and Flanders campaigns of WW1. It's effect upon German infantry was devestating due to the fact it could be carried by a single soldier and the fact it negated the tangle of chain feed through the use of drum magazines. Learn your history gang.
Isn't that the same type of machine gun that was on the top wing of Allied WWI biplanes? Before the syncopated system with the propeller shaft? Looks real familiar, with that flat drum.
where do you get all these guns and rifles? Do you run a museum or something? I have never met a person who has vintage Machineguns lying around like mg42's and lewis guns just seems kinda funny lol
I can imagine I'm Victor McLaglen shooting that machine gun at the Arab nomads in the Lost Patrol, as a matter of fact, think I'll go look for that movie and watch it again, thanks!

I can imagine I'm Victor McLaglen shooting that machine gun at the Arab nomads in the Lost Patrol, as a matter of fact, think I'll go look for that movie and watch it again, thanks!

why did he hit above the targets the whole time? or was that planned
MidwestMadness775 9 months ago 4
@MidwestMadness775 It was on purpose. I had more guns to shoot later and didn't want to chew up the target boards.
