im sure that on time, i'll go to this beach an i will feel the history and i will feel the brave of this guys who died for us. and perhaps i want to find an old granade or a weapon under water.
i've been to this place in summer of 2007. I've to say i'm german. But this was the most beautiful place i've ever been to. If you have the chance to get to this beach and the great american cemetery you have to take it. You can truly feel the history on that ground. it's an outstanding memory i'll never forget.
True...it's not solely on Bush's shoulders, but the reaction the US had towards France not hopping on board was ridiculous with the whole Freedom Fries thing...just stupid really! That's all I'm saying. And yeah, everybody has their motive for fighting but France and the U.S. just seem to be bitter towards each other all the time. I don't get that. Oh well...life goes on!
I readed something one day and there was a kid he asked hes granfather. Do you feel your an hero? grandfather said No. But i joined a company of heros.....
as a norweagian i want to say Its a new germany now new people new generations and all is history. But let`s never forget what happend on this beach! and let us all live in peace.
It makes you wonder why two great nations such as France and The United States can't seem to put petty differences aside and realize that we are friends. Since the Revolutionary War France has always been there for us. So anyway, thanks for recognizing our sacrifice that day. I as an American have always admired France. No "freedom" fries for me because our stupid president can't get his facts straight before throwing us into war.
I agree we should work with the French, but we should get all of the facts straight here. French intelligence (along with Russian and British intelligence) came to the same conclusion regarding WMD's in Iraq. They were all wrong, but it is safe to say that the French and Russians were so deep in the oil for food scandal that they wouldn't have joined anyway due to their fat pockets.
Again, Bush was wrong, but don't say he was alone.
Normandy on D-Day itself came from Canada, Free French commandos, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America. In the weeks following the invasion substantial Free French and Polish forces also participated and there were also contingents from Belgium, Czechoslovakia, Greece, and the Netherlands.[9] Other Allied nations participated by supporting the invasion with naval and air support such as the Royal Australian Air Force [10] and the Royal Norwegian Navy[11].
I am an American I went to this beach in December 2000, it was so quiet, we were the only ones there. I prayed in the sand for the souls that were lost there.
Some can say i don't have nothing to say about Omaha Beach because i'am from Poland. They are wrong. Our country just like France was occupied,
so attack of USA army on Omaha was like a light in a tunnel for all occupied countries. Poland remember all people who die in that day and we wanna thank all allied troops who was fought for liberty and freedom of our cauntries.
Wow im only about 11 and I thought the beach would be easy and cool but now I understand and feel why people that were there watching their brothers and friends get shot all that stuff never wanted to talk about it I still wanted to be there cause it would be better me dead than the guy next to me im sure and I still plan on going to whatever war I can get into butI want to do plaintball first to get some of the feel and fear of the real thing.
And as an American thank you for your support in our nations war for independence. Most Americans fail to realize how long the history of our two countries goes and if it wasn't for the support of both of our nations to this day neither the United States nor France would be what they are today!
i just went to the beaches yesterday and when i was at SWORD beach i couldnt imagine what happened there 60 years ago because there were so many tourists
later when i was on OMAHA beach i could imagine and i felt sick...
we should never forget what happened and what these beaches mean for us!!!
Thanks for your post Thomas, you're right, Omaha content a special ambiance , and when you're on Omaha you just can feel it ... then you walk up to the cimetarry, now you're sad and this walk stay in your minds for a looogtime . regards .
Yep, and when you walk on Omaha beach, or differents places every where in this part of our country, this part of our history is very present, you can really feel all the violence who happened here , it's in the ambiance, it is very heavy. I've seen many American visitors crying when they was walking on this beach for the first time. Impossible to forget .
As a german I also have to say thank you. If I imagine that at the beginning of world war II the majority of US citizens didn`t want to enter the war, but afterwards the simple men and women of the forces risked their lives to restore some kind of peace or "normality" in a country which is so far away from home, I`m really impressed.
Thanks to all allied troops who fought for freedom and humanity.
Thanks for your comment, i agree , German people have seen their how country changed too by this terrible war, so many Germans did'nt choose to fight in it, and died in it , we have to remember them too.
Thank you for this post. One of the houses you see here was used in the movie "the longest day" .
It is important to remember, and to continue to honor what our Vets did, to show them they did'nt die for nothing. Freedom is a great cause wis an expensive price . Freedom is not free .
Very beautiful song... I am french and I'm very recognizing towards the soldiers, men and weemen who helped us and saved us during WW1 and WW2... Thank you, we will never forget you...
I've visited Omaha Beach and I can say that the endless rows of crosses and graves brought me to tears. It truly is a amazingly sad place but definitely worth a visit to pay your respect.
