J-Pop, J-Rock, J-Metal, whatever...The only reason there are subcultures or genres is because of other countries. All the other countries labeled it that because it came from Japan and had a certain style not found anywhere else. Hence the "J" in front of the genre. Anyone who doesn't believe me, try looking for Mandorock or Cantorock. Same deal.

But still, I personally dislike the labeling of music based to the country it comes from, eg J-pop is a mixture of electro or synth-pop with pop-rock.. modern synth-pop you could say perhaps xD I prefer categorizing music by the way it sounds, not by its origin. :)
