what a stunning layout it really is, can i ask how big this is i can see itys mind boggling huge but just how big??, and thanks for the look great scenery and just WOW, missing a couple of broken down hacky dirty deltics though lol, thanks again
Hello, look, it has cost a lot over the years. I would not post a price on it. There is only one layout, and it is in a U-shape with 4 continuous circuits on the bottom running in a double u pattern, and there are 2 circuits on the top level which cross the bridge. They are all interconnected by points in several locations. cheers, Nick
LOLZ did anyone notice that if u go to 1:13 on the left of the screenyou can see dcc remotes!??!??!?!?!?! and it was taken in the 1980's!?!??!?!?!?! lolz
Q1.The over head wires. Are they live of just for scenery?Because i know they can be set up 'live' so as the 'Electric class' trains actually pick up their power trough a Pantograph as opposed their wheels from the rails.
Q2. The Steel Viaduct. Is that actually a form of metal soldered together or is it plastic? Because it looks Brilliant. Great Detail!!!
Compliment. Great Layout. I like it. A lot! Well done !
Q1. Not live, and note, live will not work with DCC control. Also, note that Hornby locos have not collected overhead current since going to the 5 pole ringfield/5 pole skew wound motors as they now have all wheel pick up.
Sorry for the delay in replying to you. The bridge is set down low on a separate piece of board, so there is no actual climb up towards it at all. Generally, I avoid inclines/declines that would be a permanent feature of a layout to optimise running.
did you buy all the scenery and buildings or did you make it all? I am interested in making a layout but am only 15 so im a little short on cash, how much would something like this cost, not including the trains themselves?
Hello, the buildings are mainly plastic kits assembled over many years. There are also a number of skaledale items bought in the last few years. Trees are faller, Heki, and some from China. I have no real idea hgow much it has all cost, as many of the items are now 30 years old. It really does not matter; just get yourself started, do not think too big to begin with, and just let it grow. It is a hobby of a lifetime after all. And always remember to enjoy it!
Hi there, it is very much current Hornby track. System 6 disappeared in the late 1970's when the track was re-tooled and sourced from Roco in Austria. You can see from the newer style fishplates. The track on this layout is mainly made in china, with the newer less intrusive style Hornby points and mechanisms. regards Nick
Hello there; I am very lucky to have dedicated 8 x 5 metre room. The layout sits about 450mm inside the periperhy of the whole room. Thanks for your feedback!
@97BladeR79 . Hi Blade, the layout is in a U shape. There are 4 circuits on the lower U, which split into 6 thru the main station. There are 2 tracks on the upper level, which will shortly be connected to the lower. These two tracks are more or less in an L shape. I do have a plan but do not know hoe to attach it to U-tube..sorry!

How many pieces of platform did you use for your main station as its useful to know the number of pieces to get. Thanks.

Hi Simon, apologies for my tardy response. There are 13 pieces of platform plus the two ramps. Hope this still is of use!

Wow, I with my flying Scotsman would run that smoothly! What do you use to control all of that, DCC?
KeyToTime 1 year ago
Hi there, I use Hornby DCC. The decoders are Hornby, Bachmann, ESU-Loksound, and TCS. I highly recommend DCC. regards Nick
